Para Macro Monday.

I wish all of you a beautiful week. I will be back on Saturday. And no, I’m not on vacation 😉. I earned a little Corona run-out.

In diesem Sinne wünsche ich Euch allen eine wundervolle Woche. Ich werd am Samstag wieder hier sein. Und, NEIN, ich hab keinen Urlaub 😉. Ich hab Corona Auslauf bekommen.

This is a golden barrel cactus (Echinocactus grusonii), sometimes called mother-in-law's cushion.

There is an Australian slang term "cactus" meaning broken; ruined; no longer working, now mostly related to a technical system. "My computer is cactus!".

There are several opinions on the origin of this slang term. But most likely would be introduction of the prickly pear to Australia in 1788 on the First Fleet. It became a pest, quickly overrunning many thousand acres of farmland - rendering the farm "cactus!"

HMM- the theme for today, 5/25, is handle and this one is probably my favorite of the 3-4 macros that i'll put up. the whole buttonhook is in the first comment box, hopefully along with a story :)

here's the story: sam levenson, who was a humorist, told of a little boy who was just learning to read and had never seen a question mark before. he had, however, seen one of these tools which were used to button up shoes, before the advent of laces. so he read it thusly:

where are you going, little buttonhook?

Manchester Town Hall is four years into a six year restoration program. All paintings, statues and other artefacts have been carefully removed, cleaned, catalogued and stored for safe keeping ready to be re-installed in their rightful place when the Town Hall is re-opened to the public in 2024. This print by ‘Rainman’ replaces a painting of William Booth by an unknown artist and is the last painting to be brought down from the State Room.

I photographed this image, (including William Booth in colour), outside the Town Hall on one of the hoardings surrounding the work site; I have no idea who the photographer is but it is from a collection of prints by Manchester City Council.

My tea glass on the coffee table, in the background a fire is burning in the pellet stove.

Beautiful gerberas. They are so photogenic with their simple forms and delicate, intricate centres. But like all flowers, they're fragile and only live if they're handled with care and looked after lovingly.

Here's the music I've chosen to go with them. Famous and wonderful faces, voices and harmonica playing here if you're of my generation - please right click and open in a new tab.
