The statue is one of twenty similar statues gifted from Tokyo to Los Angeles by the Semmelweis University to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Dr. Semmelweis's birthday in 1818.
Featured ceremony speakers include Dr. Howard Zucker, New York State Health Commissioner, H.E. Hand hygiene and infection control is part of hospital life.
Deborah Graves (pictured, centre) picked up a parasite while traveling abroad during the 90’s. As a result, she suffered liver failure and had a liver transplant in July at Vancouver Coastal Health's Vancouver General Hospital (VGH). Due to complications, she is still at the hospital, and as a result, her daughter, Michal, was forced to cancel her wedding that was to occur in Nanaimo.
Staff at VGH quickly helped the family organize a last minute wedding ceremony and reception Saturday, September 3, on an outdoor terrace on Deborah’s unit.
