...which has taken its destiny into its own hands.”
~Carl Sagan

Started from a blank canvas in deco sketch. Then the resulting shapes were layered and masked many times against different versions of the same piece in icolorama, image blender and stackables, adding at some point a couple of dot patterns in icolorama.
I find it so delightful playing with shapes and colors as in handcut collages, the difference being you can add an endless number of layers, creating at the same time interesting color shades.
We wound up here after falling into a Youtube rabbit hole!
RM Brooks General Store was established in 1917 to serve the people of the Rugby TN community and surrounding areas. Still in operation today, a great place to stop for a bite to eat and take a trip down memory lane. Try one of Tiffany's "Fried Bologna" sandwiches with the handcut fries and you'll definitely be hooked!
Niccy and I learned about the store after watching a channel on Youtube called The Appalachian Channel which has stories about the people who live, work, and play in the Appalachian Mountains.
video.search.yahoo.com/search/video?fr=mcafee&p=appal...
When we learned about the store Niccy said "We're going there" so off we went. Lucky for us they have a small campground behind the store so we were able to spend a couple of days in the area. Tennessee is a beautiful state and the people who live there are truly blessed. We'll definitely be going back to explore some more.
I should also say that if you should decide to check out this store you should make sure you've got accommodations lined up since here's no Holiday Inns or a Motel 6 in the area. Take a look at Google Maps and you'll see what I mean!
The English duo Snik completed this piece by the Aberdeen harbour. It depicts yet one more of their iconic frozen scenes of a dynamic action, which in this a girl being dragged into the air by small birds using a piece of rope. To hold fast is to keep strong or to hold on during stormy times. A sailing term, its a nice reference to the harbour location of their mural. Although they use stencils to lay out their pieces they also free hand and add into each piece which gives their work its unique look.
Their works are so detailed and realistic that it’s hard to believe that are made with stencils.
Here are photos how artists created this wall painting:

About artists:
Artist duo Snik, aka Laura and Nik, are equally at home working in the studio or on the street. Their murals – created using traditional craft methods and layers of intricate handcut stencils – can be seen from Aberdeen to Miami and Hong Kong.
There is beauty in decay. There is beauty in places that are not perfect. And there are a lot of abandoned spaces. We want to show that these spaces still have a life to them, still have a purpose and meaning. They potentially have more years in them than people realise.
These places shouldn’t just be forgotten about. And they also shouldn’t be knocked down and redeveloped every five minutes. People can be very quick to write something off if it’s not new and shiny these days.

Happy Wall Wednesday!
The client has changed his mind about the setting of the 6- 0.07 ct. diamonds.....(he wants to upgrade to 0.25 cts., but cannot afford them right now)....so I inlaid a piece of black coral as a 'placeholder' till he can. I was shooting for 40 grams on this ring.....39.22 grams is the actual weight......handcut cross-florentine, bright-cut border......size 13.

There we were with a few blank walls when we decided to come up with something we could do that could be sprayed up quickly whilst making the most of our truly impressive freehand skills. After a quick trip back to the lab we came up with the stencilled eyes and mouth which can be thrown up at a moment’s notice followed by a quick bit of can work for the rest of it. Bish, bash, bosh. 2 minutes and it’s job done. Hopefully we’ll be developing these somewhat if we get a little space to work with…

Gold paint, that is. Adding some finishing touches (gold paint) to the hand carved, hand cut, hand pressed wooden prints that we have been preparing over the past few days. To find out what they are for, and to see more progress photos of how it was done, please click here.
This is also our new blog. It has a feed, what ever that means, so you can stay in touch on the go.

Title: White Horse table - Staring at the sun (start)
Media: handcut stencils and spraypaint
Size: Table
We painted these tables a while ago but didn't varnish them first time round as we wanted to see how they weathered. This time they've got a couple of coats of varnish in the hope they'll survive a bit better...

TED: "Boy, is this a posh fan! It's one of them woodun jigsaws frum France, but Mum got it frum eBay so it diddunt cost so much. It took me'n'Donald a few days to make cuz it's ever so fiddly - the peeces don't slot toggevver like a cardbord pussel an' there reel small too. Over to yew, Donald!"
DONALD: "Well, what can I say about this puzzle that Ted hasn't already covered?
Oh! I know: the cutter has cut along the outlines of some of the images, so that makes it extra difficult to assemble because the picture on the box is quite small.
We're going to keep this one, so tomorrow we'll be sorting through our shelves, trying to make some much-needed space!"

TED: "This is the pussle wot the Grumps gave me fer Krissmuss. It's a bit babyish cuz it's a pikchur of toys but I still likes it.

It wuz still rapped in shrink rap so I wuz the first bear to make it - like the last pussel!"
‘Wha’ gwan?’ is a phrase often heard around our neck of the woods so i thought i’d do a little tribute to our Jamaican bredren. I have always liked the sound of patois although it can sometimes be a little difficult to understand. I will probably do another little post once this has hit the streets but i haven’t quite decided where it should go yet. I’m pretty much spoiled for choice around Brixton but a good placement would be ideal.
I thought it only fair to include a Lion of Judah on there too as a nod to Haile Selassie.
Jah Rastafari!

Paint pen and handcut stencils on found street sign.
These jaggy-edged walnut buttons were made by a relative of mine a long time ago. They were in my mom's sewing stuff way back when I was a kid. Not sure when she got them, but they might be 100 years old by now. I've got 2-1/2 cards like this. It's a cool family heirloom that makes me smile.

This was a fab cupcake tower to make as the focus of the display was purely on colour. All cupcakes are topped with our classic rose swirls and include lemon, red velvet, vanilla and chocolate flavours.
The birds were part of the wedding theme and are handcut from fondant and attached throughout the stand for added detail.
The bride got in touch and asked for the two personalised toppers which were a surprise to the groom! I hear they went down well at the reception!

Probably the biggest job so far for ACDSleeve, in the works for the best part of five months (the pop up mechanism has been an idea for almost a year) split 5” vinyl / business card CD for Pariso and Kerouac on Holy Roar Records/Tangled Talk Records. The artwork was designed by Aaron Dawkins the cases were litho printed in two variants, matte laminated then handcut and assembled, the mechanisms were machine cut then handscored/glued and then glued into the cases. Run of 300, 150 white and 150 grey.

Watercolor, torn paper weaving, netting, handmade flowers. Hidden in the dark there is beauty, not waiting to get out, but hoping to be revealed. A way out does not exist, but a way to live and see happiness reveal itself does. To accept this and decide it's ok is the first step to finding the rose.
My little kitties leave me so soon....so I have to make more! All handcut stained glass with glass nugget eyes, handpainted pupils.

My neighbor has the most friendly cat I have ever seen. He always greets me and wants to have his belly scratched. I will always comply. As a special favor to my neighbor I created this papercut cat portrait for him as a gift. This is a layered papercut using five colors and i hope that you like it.
