“Rita Levi-Montalcini (22 April 1909 – 30 December 2012) was an Italian neurobiologist. She was awarded the 1986 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine jointly with colleague Stanley Cohen for the discovery of nerve growth factor (NGF).
From 2001 until her death, she also served in the Italian Senate as a Senator for Life. This honor was given due to her significant scientific contributions. On 22 April 2009, she became the first Nobel laureate to reach the age of 100, and the event was feted with a party at Rome's City Hall.”

What is PRP - Platelet Rich Plasma?
PRP Platelet Rich Plasma is the use of a person’s own blood platelets to enhance hair growth as a stand-alone treatment or to improve the recovery and results of hair transplant surgery. In the field of tissue regeneration, research is continuing to progress regarding the use of PRP’s ability to stimulate stem cells, improve wound healing, and rejuvenate skin and hair follicles.
How is PRP performed as a stand-alone treatment for hair growth?
A small sample of blood is obtained from the patient. This sample is processed in an FDA-cleared device to separate the platelets from other components like red blood cells. Platelets are then chemically ‘activated,’ releasing powerful molecules which have profound biologic effects on hair follicles and skin. Under comfortable local anesthesia, this powerful cocktail of growth factors, cytokines and other proteins is injected into the area of scalp where weak hair follicles exist. Microneedling of the skin is also performed. Mild soreness, if any, resolves in less than a day and improved hair growth can be measured in a matter of weeks.
Is all PRP the same?
Unfortunately not, and this is where it can get confusing for patients (and physicians!). At Bauman Medical Group, we use the FDA approved Autologel PRP process to separate and activate Platelet Rich Plasma for use as a stand-alone therapy or in conjunction with hair transplantation. Bauman Medical Group is proud to be the first complete hair transplant team to be fully certified by Cytomedix to produce Autologel. That means that every member of our team has passed certification for the preparation and application of Autologel PRP. At Bauman Medical Group, we feel that our PRP/ACell protocols are providing significant stimulation of hair growth and hair follicle rejuvenation.

Tonight on ABC WPBF-25 Palm Beach… PRP Hair Regrowth treatment by Dr. Alan Bauman uses a patient's own blood to create Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP. PRP contains powerful growth factors which have been shown to enhance hair growth without drugs or side effects. New research is underway to determine the effects of adding placenta-derived Amnionic Extracellular Matrix (BioD), a cryopreserved injectable allograft commonly used for tissue regeneration. For more information about hair loss and advanced hair growth treatments such as PRP Platelet Rich Plasma, contact Dr. Alan Bauman online at www.baumanmedical.com

PRP Platelet Rich Plasma in Traction Alopecia
Traction Alopecia in African American Female patients is becoming an epidemic because of hairstyling habits including wigs, weaves, braids and other hair extensions that are secured to or pull on the hair. Excessive and continuous traction or tension on the hair fibers put traction or tension on the hair follicles which are the organs responsible for hair growth under the skin. Over time, this continuous pulling on the hair and hair follicle causes the hair fiber to release prematurely again and again, and this damages the hair follicle causing the follicle to produce a weaker and weaker, shorter and shorter hair over time until hair production ceases completely. If the behavior or habits causing the Traction Alopecia are ceased early enough, normal hair growth may resume. However, sadly, most patients seeking treatment have done significant damage to the follicles, which prevent healthy hair growth without medical treatments.
The good news is that in many cases the follicles can be rejuvenated using non-invasive medical treatments, like PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma, if the follicles have not been permanently damaged or scarred from the Traction Alopecia condition. Once a follicle is completely damaged, good quality hair growth is impossible and FUE hair transplantation is recommended. In this particular case at Bauman Medical, Yanique’s hair growth was restored by Dr. Alan Bauman using his special proprietary BaumanPRP protocol developed over thousands of treatments in thousands of patients and many years of research. Yanique is seen here BEFORE and four months AFTER her BaumanPRP treatment. For more information on BaumanPRP for Traction Alopecia, please contact Dr. Alan Bauman at www.baumanmedical.com

What is “VirtualPRP”?
VirtualPRP is an at-home protocol developed by renowned Hair Restoration Physician and hair loss expert, Dr. Alan J. Bauman MD, of Bauman Medical in Florida. VirtualPRP is a combination of treatments specifically designed to assist hair loss patients who are unable to visit for their scheduled or recommended in-office PRP Platelet Rich Plasma treatment for hair regrowth.
What kind of technology is included in the VirtualPRP treatment protocol?
VirtualPRP is a protocol that includes a combination of technologies such as bone marrow stem cell-derived growth factors and cytokines, a powerful polybotanical topical solution, low-level laser therapy, as well as stem cell support nutraceuticals.
Specifically, Dr. Bauman’s VirtualPRP protocol includes:
AnteAGE-MD Bone Marrow Stem Cell-Derived Growth Factors + Cytokines
AnteAGE-MD PolyBotanical Solution
Stem-Kine Stem Cell Support Nutraceutical
FDA-cleared Low-Level Laser Therapy device for Hair Regrowth (e.g., TURBO LaserCap)
What does the research on Growth Factors + Cytokines tell us?
Research on stem cell-derived conditioned media has demonstrated a powerful effect on hair growth and hair follicle cycling. Clinical trials and other scientific studies have been ongoing to help understand what growth factors and cytokines are most beneficial for those suffering from hair loss, hair thinning and other conditions. Dr. Bauman is in the process of performing a clinical trial pilot study on AnteAGE Stem Cell-Derived Growth Factor + Cytokine treatments and has presented this scientific information at multiple medical conferences.
How do we use AnteAGE MD Stem Cell-Derived Growth Factors + Cytokines for hair growth at Bauman Medical?
AnteAGE growth factors and cytokines can be utilized in these three ways:
As a stand-alone in-office treatment regimen in combination with microneedling.
In combination with Dr. Bauman’s in-office lunchtime PRP/PDOgro™ hair growth treatments and,
As an at-home system.
