Fellow tourists lined up to experience the sound, fury and wonder that is Yellowstone's Beehive Geyser. I can understand why many become "geyser groupies."

If I lived closer to Yellowstone I'd probably become a geyser groupie as well trying to see as many as I can. Does take research, patience and luck.

Beehive is one of the tallest geysers in Yellowstone. Its fine, veil-like plume has been measured to 218 feet.

Beehive is within view of iconic Old Faithful geyser. I was actually waiting to catch Old Faithful when Beehive took off. I scrambled to get over to catch this better geyser IMO.

I spent few hours around the Salt Cellar like a Peak District groupie admiring one of its iconic locations, and in this space of time the weather changed from cloud to rain, to fog and a blizzard white out to clear blue skys to the conditions in the photograph here- luckily just about right for sunset. At one point Ralph and I where huddled in the rocks just in front of the cellar taking shelter from the snow.

I'm surprised I got any sharp images from the outing after leaving my hiking boots on the kitchen floor back home, I then found I'd left the tripod noggin there too, so had to hand hold.

All these things lead me to love photographing the outdoors, overcoming these small problems to see a great view in all conditions, nothing beats it.

IMHO Bison are America's national mammal, as the Bald Eagle is our national bird.

Bison jams happen often in Yellowstone's Hayden (here) and Lamar Valleys. A real treat.

An earlier post of one of the bulls that came right up to us in comments. So close I couldn't get him all in the frame. :-))

Love my morning group shots @ Naturally Naughty

A trio of shots to get enough depth of field for all the groupies. I tried this shot 10 different way and learned along the way that shooting outdoors will force the aperature into a higher number. (The majority of my miniatures have been set up indoors with long exposures and a tripod.) While it still didn't give me the depth I wanted, it was vastly improved from previous attempts.
