A combination of strong wind and bad technique left this shot quite mushy, but the brief sunset light with lots of dust in the air made for a good scene nonetheless. Grimes Point is an archaeological site near Fallon NV with some of the oldest petroglyphs around. The NV Rock Art Foundation notes that this site dates back 8,000 years, when the shoreline of ancient lake Lahontan filled the desert floor below.

The photographs today pick up on two themes that are obvious when people see this manganese smelter at work. Heavy industry is dirty work, but someone's got to do it. Anyone who has seen Bill Brandt's magnificent black and white images from the industrial heart of England in the mid 20th century knows it's not pretty. But it is real.
A set of 4 Union Pacific helpers just got done shoving a grain train up the 40+ mile grade of Pengra Pass in the Oregon Cascades and is now coming back down to the bottom to help shove another southbound that is patiently waiting in Oakridge. While in the rotation of motors on the system, these motors generally work as helpers in the Oregon Cascades till inspection time comes around every 90- 184 days and then replaced with other motors. With numerous trips a day shoving trains up the hill, through 21 tunnels and several snowsheds each run, it is not uncommon to find these units covered in grime towards the end of their session on the Cascade Line. The more darker color adds a different touch from the average yellow you see everyday through here. Taken at the well know bridge over highway 58 and Salt Creek. Heather Siding.

First stop on last Mondays photoshoot in London was Baker Street underground station. The aim was to capture a moody image which is quite in keeping with scenes from a Sherlock Holmes novel.

This was described to me as a railroad motor car storage shed. This is on a spur to Abbeville, AL off the Dothan sub.
On the evening of May 19, 2024 MRL 4405 rests at Blossburg on the 3rd Sub before decending the Mullan Pass back to Helena to prepare to shove another train up the pass. Even though MRL 4405 was freshly washed, it still evidently shows much of its grime acquired from working the helpers on the Mullan Pass.
The BAYL A&G job heads to Abbeville on the former Abbeville & Grimes spur. There it will work the Great Southern wood preserving plant.
No, I've never heard of grime rap either - my music tastes are still set in the 1960s and 70s. This mural in Northampton depicts Grime rapper FFSYTHO, who apparently is making a name for herself on BBC Radio 1 xtra. Again not a station I listen to - I'm more Radio 2 and Ken Bruce!
