American Green Tree Frog at Blue Heron Wetlands

THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT AND FAVES

ON THE REACTIONS I WILL TRY TO RESPOND BACK

The Green Frog occurs in southern parts of central and east Canada as well as the eastern half of the United States. Green frogs are usually found in or near shallow permanent wetlands such as swamps, lakes and streams. The diet of adults consists of a variety of small invertebrates including insects and molluscs whereas jeuveniles (tadpoles) feed on decaying plant and animal parts, algae, micro-organisms and assorted organic matter suspended in water. Hibernation is in water of sufficient depth to avoid freezing in winter.

In order to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, I thought this week's theme should be green. Which turns out to be harder than it sounds for me.

Northern Green Frog is Carnivorous, Will eat any animal it can fit in its mouth. Including small snakes, lizards and other frogs. They will often “yelp” when dashing away from predators to warn others nearby, many times when they see me coming they do that,

Besides the one I brought over they must be about 4 of these frogs.

Happy Froggy Friday!

It's so quiet there. A green frog on the edge of the rock in the lake.

On/Off and catching up slowly- Thank you very much for your visit and for taking the time to comment! Much appreciated!

Yes, that what I said when i saw him! Peeking out from among the water lilies, he was barely visible. But he was there, keeping an eye on me. 🐸

On/Off -Thank you so much for visiting and taking the time to comment or add to your favorites! It is greatly appreciated!

Just a little green frog on the lake, from the past Spring. Soon they'll be around again.

Waiting at home for better temps and no rainy days. I miss my walks on the parks! Thanks everybody for the kind comments!

Took this 10 minutes ago from the kitchen, I am not as luck when I go outside, when it sees me it dives in the water with a yelp:-)

He is very big btw.

Green frog

A mature frog is a carnivore. It is a fantastic predator that eats everything that moves and that is not too big to swallow. It eats insects, crickets, spiders, caterpillars and snails. It catches its prey with its long tongue, which can grow to over 30 cm. long. Sometimes the prey is caught by jumping towards it. The food is swallowed whole and digested in the stomach.

Apparently being a "Green Heron" is easier than just being "green" (it isn't easy).

Hello All!

Yesterday I was looking for dragonflies and damselflies. As I got close to the pond there was a bunch of water action near to the water's edge, a sure sign of frogs. I scanned the area and spotted many small Leopard Frogs sunning themselves. They were about one inch long. It took me quite some time to approach them without the frogs jumping underwater, but I did manage to get several images. What fun! (I love frogs and toads)!

Have a wonderful day and weekend ahead! Thanks a million for stopping by. I do appreciate your comments very much!

A bit of blue eye-liner to give this Green Frog a bit more colour!

On my way back to my car after I had taken photos of butterflies yesterday, I stopped at a little pond. You can hear that there have to be lots of frogs in that pond and the surrounding reeds but you need to wait and watch the pond for a long time if you want to see one. If you look closely you will notice some water snails too.

The Green Frog (Lithobates clamitans) is a large, frog distinct tympanum and prominent dorsolateral ridges. It may be green, bronze or brown, or a combination but is typically green on the upper lip. The belly is white with darker lines or spots. There may be some irregular spotting on the back. It is distinguished from other frogs in that the dorsolateral ridges run only partway down the back and do not reach the groin. The hind legs have dark bars. Males have a bright yellow throat. The male tympanum is twice the diameter of the eye, whereas in females, the tympanum diameter is about the same as that of the eye.

A frog quietly observing its surroundings while floating just above the water surface, partially hidden among the reeds. The calm water creates a soft reflection and warm natural tones, giving the scene a peaceful and almost meditative atmosphere.

Photographed at eye level to create a more intimate perspective with this small wetland inhabitant, capturing a quiet moment in its natural habitat.

Finally I was able to capture an elusive little green garden frog with my camera. I often hear them, but rarely see them in my garden. I finally found one resting on a Barberry leaf enjoying the late autumn sun. Yay!!

These are typical found in ponds full of lily pads, here on the marsh. It sit motionless before diving into water. Look for the folds or ridges along the green frog’s back and dark bars on its hind legs. Adults in or near permanent water. Overwinters fully underwater.
