Happy Truck Thursday! Captured in Portland, Oregon. It appears to be a circa 1958 GMC. Can't tell if the bed frame is original, but the overall condition looks okay and could be restorable.

March Rainbow - Green

Another old car.

Admittedly not taken in Manitoba. This one is from Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.

This beautiful Green Heron was foraging around one of the small ponds on the resort property where we were staying.

All constructive comments are appreciated. TIA

Color My World ~ Green

The flashier males get more attention, but the female Anna's Hummingbirds are beautiful as well. This one sits in a plum tree and shows her striking green colours as the late afternoon sun turns the just-opening leaves to gold.

I have been quiet for a few days as I have spent the weekend at the BirdFair but here is a freshly-emerged second brood Green-veined White butterfly that I took during the week. Green-veined White is the country cousin of the two garden whites (Large White and Small White). The two "Cabbage Whites" lay their eggs on cultivated members of the cabbage family (Cruciferacea) whereas Green-veined White lays on Crucifers such as Cuckoo Flower and Garlic Mustard. These plants are called Crucifers (=cross bearers) because the flowers have four petals in the shape of a cross. The scientific name of Green-veined White is Pieris napi. Pieris was one of the Muses who lived on Mount Pierus close to Mt Olympus. Napi is after Rape (Brassica napum) though this foodplant is more likely to be used by the two Cabbage Whites. Green-veined Whites are distinguished from the Cabbage Whites by the grey/green shading that traces the hindwing venation.

My visit to Machu Picchu was almost a complete disaster. Initially, my permit hadn't arrived, which meant that I wasn't allowed to use a tripod. Even more of a problem was the rain and mist. I couldn't see further than 2 meters.

I spent 6 hours under these conditions and just as I was due to leave, the mist started to clear and this is what I was left with.

Green iguanas can grow up to two meters in length. This one was at the Aviario Nacional de Colombia near Cartagena.

May I suggest that you view this particular image as large as you can to truly appreciate the 'beauty' of this fully mature male displaying his dewlap. You generally see these larger iguanas in the trees alongside rivers and canals, so it was really good to encounter this big boy in the grounds of one of our lodges.

Nagaokatenmangu Shrine, Kyoto

Late for the St. Patrick's day :).

They had this green light on till this morning but not Sunday morning. Well, something to see this classic landmark in different color themes.

Thanks for looking!

This fellow was lounging in the foilage at Wakodahatchee Wetlands. I understand they have very sharp teeth and are vegetarian, but best to keep your hands away from these guys!

Although we know birds to be essentially dinosaurs, this guy really brings that dinosaur look home in a way that birds just don't!
