August 13, 2024 - The old Spaghetti Warehouse building was the 5th and final stop on Columbus Landmark Foundations Most Endangered Building Bus Tour.
"When the historic Crystal Ice Manufacturing and Cold Storage Building was built in 1891, it was the largest facility of its sort and considered state of the art in its time.
The manufacturing plant closed in 1965. The building remained vacant until Spaghetti Warehouse renovated it and opened for business in April 1978. The restaurant décor includes ornate decorations and antiques, including two New England church confessionals, an antique wood elevator from Germany, rare stained glass windows and a San Francisco trolley car. The one-way ammonia compressor from the original ice manufacturing facility is still in the lobby. The flywheel stands approximately 20 feet around." "The original Spaghetti Warehouse, located at 397 W. Broad St., first opened in 1978 in an old icehouse that was built in 1891. After a partial roof collapse in 2022, Spaghetti Warehouse closed, and in late fall of 2023, they relocated to Downtown at 150 S. High St.
But now, Spaghetti Warehouse could be moving right back to their original Broad St. location, said Skip Weiler, local developer and owner of The Robert Weiler Company. Just in a brand new building. And there are already new plans in the work for the Spaghetti Warehouse that just opened Downtown.
Weiler’s company, the Kelley family, and the owners of the Spaghetti Warehouse chain are working together with plans to raze the original warehouse and construct a mixed-use building there, complete with apartments, parking, shopping, and yes – even another Spaghetti Warehouse restaurant.
“We’re still in the planning stages right now,” Weiler explained. “But we’re very excited about it. Being between 2 railroad tracks and at a historic location, we’d continue that theme between the new development and the location.” Previous description: 614now.com/2024/food-drink/spaghetti-warehouse-could-be-m...
