1913 Bugatti Tipo 18 Sports 'Black Bess' (body by Henri Labourdette)
- 5027cc straight-4 OHC engine / three valves/cylinder
- power 100 bhp / 2.800 rpm
- top speed 150 km/h
- this Bugatti is the fourth in a series of only 7 Tipo 18's
- in 1913 French aviator and sportsman Roland Garros (1888-1918), a close friend of Ettore Bugatti, was the first owner of this Tipo 18
- that same year he became world famous to be the first pilot to make a non-stop flight across the Mediterranean Sea
- during WWI he became a fighter pilot and was killed in action in 1918
- in 1927, the stadium where the French open tennis championships were held was named after him
- in 1922 his Bugatti was sold to the British female racing driver Ivy Cummings, who named the car "Black Bess", after highwayman Dick Turpin's legendary black steed

Sunday morning sees us at the Leisure Centre: Ray to swim 30 lengths in the main pool; yours truly to exercise 30 minutes in the hydrotherapy pool.
Shame I cannot manage the bike ride but when I read that one of the charities to benefit will be 'Breast Cancer Now', I asked Ray to take my photo for:
