This graph illustrates the scale between the sizes (in revenue) of the US auto and bike industries.
The passenger tire represents what the auto industry spends on marketing. The little bike is the revenue earned by the bike industry. The numbers I used are from 2005-2007; for both industries they're off by about 20% for 2009, but the relative scale is still about the same.

This is very close to what I know as a "radial graph". I couldn't find a good definition of a radial graph anywhere, but here is an academic publication that at least describes the concept: bailando.sims.berkeley.edu/papers/infovis01.htm I decided to try and implement this type of radial graph using Silverlight. Given a set of entities that are connected to each other, I figured it should be easy enough to come up with a basic algorithm to put this on a screen.

An unnamed graphing tool gave me this for a network graph. A bug that I have not been able to duplicate since.

Now that's what I'm talkin' about. Not saying what the actual numbers are or which site this is, but this is definitely the shape of success.
