I'm often very difficult to see

I like to sit and watch quietly

sometimes maybe up in a tree

often somewhere special . . .

waiting my moment consciously

when I look around here and there

cameras I see from afar and near

don't think I don't notice . . .

for indeed I do

watch your back, sides and front

I'm still active

I might just surprise you !

my legs are crossed my paws too

expression intent

yes I'm watching you

don't be fooled by my elegance too

I'm a quick mover

watch out all of you !

Title from the beautiful piano rag by William Bolcom.

Whooper swans (cygnus cygnus) spend most of their time in subarctic waters of the Northern Hemisphere, where they breed. As it might tell from their wings they are powerful in flight. Each winter they migrate south in large flocks, flying hundreds and sometimes thousands of miles. Those which arrive in Ireland and Britain come from Iceland. They announce their presence in the estuaries and wetlands where they settle with a deep honking sound.

Some interesting facts:

1. Finland's national bird

2. They pair for life

3. Among heaviest bird in flight

4. Fly at altitudes up to 8,000 ft

Daucus carota flowers from midsummer to autumn. After flowering, the flowerhead folds inward to develop a concave seedhead.

We spotted this Marbled Godwit at Stinson Beach National Recreation Area. Stinson’s white sand and pristine oceanfront make it one of the best swimming beaches in northern California. The birds on this beach had no fear of humans as they startled only when being chased by children. This graceful shorebird is speckled in browns with a cinnamon wash that is especially noticeable when it spreads its long and pointed wings to take flight. We had a wonderful time splashing in the water and can’t wait to get back.

These Prinia grow on me as many subjects do after I start to see them for a while... their eyes also catch the light very well... and of course they are so active... lucky again to espy this pose out in the open... :-)

You just have to love watching the Northern Harrier hunt as they gracefully fly low over the fields. Pole Farm, Mercer Meadows, Lawrence Township, NJ.

Using burst exposures, you can never be sure exactly what success rate you may have. When I saw this on the ground glass,

I could scarcely believe my eyes. I've never gotten anything quite so amazing.
