These beautiful graceful birds are not so graceful while landing. They need a bit of runway for both taking off and landing. Unlike other similar birds like Herons, Storks which can take off vertical - the Flamingoes glide down slowly in the air to water and then have a hard landing where they run briefly before coming to a complete standstill.
I also had an opportunity to watch them take off and they have a similar approach. They run maybe a dozen steps before they pick up the speed to take flight.

Whooper swans (cygnus cygnus) spend most of their time in subarctic waters of the Northern Hemisphere, where they breed. As it might tell from their wings they are powerful in flight. Each winter they migrate south in large flocks, flying hundreds and sometimes thousands of miles. Those which arrive in Ireland and Britain come from Iceland. They announce their presence in the estuaries and wetlands where they settle with a deep honking sound.

Mourning Doves are graceful, slender-tailed, small-headed doves that are common across the United States.
Mourning Doves usually forage for seeds on the ground. Their flight is fast and bullet straight. When taking off, their wings make a sharp whistling or whinnying. Mourning Doves are the most frequently hunted species in North America.

These Prinia grow on me as many subjects do after I start to see them for a while... their eyes also catch the light very well... and of course they are so active... lucky again to espy this pose out in the open... :-)
