According to archaeological findings, Koufonisia were inhabited since prehistoric times. Excavations in Epano Mili brought to light important findings that date back to the first years of Cycladic civilization.In the course of history, Koufonisia followed the fate of the rest of Cyclades islands.They were dominated by the Venetians and the Turks, who, mostly in the 17th century, fought about the governance of the Aegean Sea. Residents of Koufonisia, either because they needed to or because they wanted to, often joined their forces with the residents of Mani or with other pirates, who were using the channel between Pano and Kato Koufonisi as a safe shelter.
It becomes part of the Greek state in 1830.
I shot the lane to the Busch Family Cemetery with a few different lenses and emulsions and nothing really hit me. When I was there, the scene looked enticing, like it would be impossible to get a bad shot here.
But I'm not so sure now. I don't dislike this photo, but there's something a little off-balace here.
I believe it's the tree that's just out of frame on the right. If there were such a tree just out of frame on the left, then I think it would be fine.
I could move closer, but then the old gate posts would be most or even completely out of the shot (and then, what's the point?).
It just comes down to this: sometimes there isn't a shot. You can take one, you can take a dozen or more, but not a single one will satisfy you (even if they are fine to others).
This isn't about being picky or disliking my own work. It's about giving something a try and coming up short (this isn't failing).
I'm not sure there's even something to learn from this "mistake." I needed to try. And I'll probably try again. Maybe I'll prove myself long (I'd love to be wrong here).
Sometimes photos just don't work. And the photographer gets to decide that for themselves. The viewer can feel however they feel, and all of that is okay.

A second shot from Exmouth Beach, South Devon, UK. The previous shot was titled Poseidon, due to the fork pointing skywards, this one still to find a title for currently. This shot processed in colour, as I have had a little more time to correct a few colour issues over the previous post.
After three years of waiting, it is finally snowing in the county, it's just that we seen to be getting three years worth of snow in one day! Wind too strong to venture out at the moment, but then as Captain Oats said, 'I may be some time...'
The legislative elections were held on February 6 peacefully in this country known as a bastion of stability and democratic governance in Africa. Since 2008, UNDP has supported the modernization and consolidation of electoral system through its support of the National Electoral Commission.
UNDP has mobilized 700,000 USD from the Spanish Cooperation, which has given continuity to the activities of the regional project to support the public administration reform , contributing to the consolidation of the National System of Identification and Authenticity Civil (SNIAC). This project which aims to strengthen the infrastructural support of SINIAC, has contributed to the acquisition of equipment for three databases containing biometric information.
As a prelude, the UNDP has supported the organization of the first voter registration in Cape Verde using the biometric information. The project contributed also for capacity development by training, approximately 600 trainers and operators kits census at a national level and had as well conduct an extensive information and education campaign in order to sensitized people to realize their participation' s right. The project has also created an integrated database containing biometric information for the election, as well for civil and border services.
Capeverdean diaspora has been the subject of special attention. Whith UNDP, the country has implemented a strategy census of its population living abroad, through funds raised from Government of Luxembourg, and reaching more than 30,000 people before the election period.
Cape Verde has few natural resources, with a population of 500,000 people distributed in 4000Km2, and a cultivable area of 10%. However, since January 2008, the country was graduated from the category of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) for Middle Income Countries (MICs). This important step recognizes the success of an independent country since 1975 including the choice of development based on human capital, services, new information technologies, tourism, agriculture and fisheries, among others, which have significant reduction of poverty (49% of the population in 1989 to 26.6% in 2007), growth of real GDP per capita (from 902 USD in 1990 to $ 3,306 in 2008), and a significant improvement living conditions of the population. These achievements and successes are attributed to a harmonious political and economic governance, with political stability and, in a context of sustainable peace, because of social and economic development a priority in the national agenda of development.
In this context, UNDP plays a catalytic role in cooperation with national agencies within the UN system, particularly the strengthening of national institutions, through the component e-governance "of its Governance program.

Students demanding justice for fellow students murdered by buses on rampage. Abdul Karim Rajib, a second-year student of Humanities department at, and Dia Khanam Meem, a first-year Science student of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment School and College were killed on 29th July 2018, when an Uttara-bound bus of “Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan” rammed into a group of students who had been waiting on the road for transport. Road accidents are a frequent and major source of injuries and death in Bangladesh. Students throughout Dhaka city organised protest rallies, demanding safer roads and for justice. Climate Corporate Governance for Financial Institutions - Building resilience to climate change risk
During the past decade, with extreme weather causing hundreds of USD billions of
losses per year and the changing climate intensifying the adverse effects of wasteful
practices, environmental considerations have overtaken economic concerns as the
main sources of global risk, according to the World Economic Forum.
Financial regulators and the European Union are responding with recommendations
and guidance on the disclosure of climate-related financial risks to help integrate
sustainability into investor portfolio management. Credit rating agencies are
developing new ways to anticipate how climate-related risks could impact businesses
and financial institutions.
But is this enough?
To assess whether the financial sector is adequately equipped, the EBRD is brought
together representatives from financial institutions to share their practical experience
of the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of climate-related risk management.
The event discuseed ways to achieve an effective investor-led climate response
via climate corporate governance, standards-based climate finance, climate risk
management, climate-related capital market products.

Ceramic figurines such as this one record the elaborate and burdensome regalia of Maya rulers. The belt ornament in the shape of a head with three celts is similar to the set of plaques on view here. Maya blue pigment—a combination of indigo and palygorskite, a type of clay—covers the figurine, evoking the green of the quetzal feathers in the headdress and of the jade pectorals, earrings, and belt ornaments. Holding a shield in his left hand, this ruler may be celebrating a military victory or reenacting a triumph.

The initial development path of Medan was different than other cities in Java. Medan has just grown after 1860’s since the Dutch governance settled in Sumatra’s east coast, Parijs van Sumatra.
In the end of 19th century, Kesawan village which was located at the south west corner of the Esplanade had begun its transformation to become a commercial district. Its main road, also called Kesawan, was flanked by rows of shop houses which were mainly owned by Chinese entrepreneurs.
The Premises of Harrisons & Crosfield (H&C), an office of the British plantation company, was the one of prestigious building in the modern town of Medan reflecting the success of the plantation industry from the eighteen sixties.
It’s located on the junction between Winkelstraat Kesawan and Huttenbachstraat in South-West corner of Esplanade Square (today Jl. A. Yani and Jl. A. Yani VII). The Harrisons & Crosfield office was named the Juliana building, after the Dutch princess Juliana, born in 1909. It was the first building on Sumatra with a lift. Amazingly, the building of Harrisons & Crosfield in London had copied the architecture of their office in Medan.
Present day, this building was owned by PT PP London Sumatra Indonesia Tbk (Lonsum), which operates 38 plantations in four main islands of Indonesia which are Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan and Sulawesi. Also, the Britisch Consulate and the library of the Britisch Council use this building today.
Largely managing rubber, coffee, cocoa and tea plantations before the war, Lonsum concentrated on rubber as a mainstay commodity of the Company in the fifties through the seventies, and diversified into oil palm in the mid eighties, replacing rubber as the primary commodity at the turn of the century.

"The Collegiate Church of St Mary is a Church of England parish church in the town of Warwick, England. It is in the centre of the town just east of the market place. It is a member of the Greater Churches Group.
The church has the status of collegiate church as it had a college of secular canons. In governance and religious observance it was similar to a cathedral (although not the seat of a bishop and without diocesan responsibilities). There is a Bishop of Warwick, but this is an episcopal title used by a suffragan bishop of the Diocese of Coventry.
Warwick is a market town and the county town of Warwickshire, England. It lies near the River Avon, 11 miles (18 km) south of Coventry and just west of Leamington Spa and Whitnash. Its population was 31,345 in 2011. Signs of activity date to the Neolithic period and unbroken habitation to the 6th century AD. It was a Saxon burh in the 9th century; Warwick Castle was built during the Norman conquest of England. Warwick School claims to be the country's oldest boys' school. The earldom of Warwick, created in 1088, controlled the medieval town and built town walls, of which Eastgate and Westgate survive. The castle grew into a fortress, then a country house. Summer 2019 I did a solo cycling tour across Europe through 12 countries over the course of 3 months. I began my adventure in Edinburgh, Scotland and finished in Florence, Italy cycling 8,816 km. During my trip I took 47,000 photos.
