This altar-image in Church of the Holy Sepulchre hasn't been renowed for many years, cause it is in poor Gorgia's (not sure - maybe coptic one?) branch chapel - so decided powerful main administrators.

Maybe this is why eyes flushed with red anger.

A re-imagining of Scetra (since Bella Gorgia is the new resident wizard lol) as a barbarous middle aged forsworn outcast. Details are still a WIP ;)

When I met Agnes, she stroke me as beautiful, almost flamboyant, centered and confident. And she knew it all because she saw it all.

I met Georgia nearby the Louvre and Palais Royal. She is founder of a cloth company in Greece and was with her sister in a trip in Paris. They both accepted very kindly to be part of the project. Thank you for your kindness !

In Greek mythology, Tartarus or Tartaros is both a deity and a place in the underworld. In ancient Orphic sources and in the mystery schools, Tartarus is also the unbounded first-existing entity from which the Light and the cosmos are born.

In the Greek poet Hesiod's Theogony, c. 700 BC, Tartarus was the third of the primordial deities, following after Chaos and Gaia (Earth), and preceding Eros.

As for the place, Tartarus is the deep abyss that is used as a dungeon of torment and suffering for the wicked. A part of Hades (or the underworld) and, in turn, below Uranus (sky), Gaia (earth), and Pontus (sea). Tartarus is the place where, according to Plato in Gorgias (c. 400 BC), souls were judged after death and where the wicked received punishment. Like other primal entities (such as the earth and time), Tartarus is also a primordial force or deity.

Tartarus was used as a prison for the worst of villains, including Cronus and the other Titans who were thrown in by Zeus. Uranus also threw his own children into Tartarus because he feared they might overthrow him. These mishaps included the "hundred-handed-ones", the "cyclops" and the "giants".

It's a marvellous place to walk in or relax, the Parque Rodó just outside the city centre of Montevideo. One of its major attractions is the huge memorial to José Enrique Camilo Rodó Piñeyro (1871-1917), foremost 'modernist' author of Uruguay. His Ariel pits the 'spiritual' creature Ariel against the negativity of Caliban. The book (1900) became a classic of Spanish-American literature, and is still widely read and taught (I'm told). I read it myself and found it interesting though a bit tedious. The emphasis on beauty, Spirit and the Good can be less exciting than reading about and imagining evil...

Whatever the case, Rodó was mightily against utilitarianism - in the sense of the idea that everything must have a 'material' use. In this context he inveighed against the deadly rote of many industrial jobs. People in such a position, he claimed, have a hard time aspiring to Spirit and the Good.

Rodó grounded his values in the Classical Western Tradition and that's something the sculptor José Belloni (1882-1965) understood well. In a part - not seen here - of the pictured monument he's sculpted Gorgias and his friends bidding farewell to Socrates as he's about to drink his cup of poison expecting a Better Life.

Our Oleander, of course, is a poisonous plant. But it reminds as well of the tragedy of Leander and Hero. In aspiring to his High Love for Hero, Leander drowned in the Hellespont.

Does this mean Ariel is rather too optimistic?
