An hour later, they were married. One of numerous nuptials celebrated daily at the San Louis National Wildlife Refuge.
In my eight years that I've been privileged to watch the local burrowing owl population, this was from the epic day I will never forget. I had this little family all to myself for over 2 hours, until they finally retreated into their burrow as the day was heating up.
Here's the story: Dad far left has just brought in a tasty figeater beetle, and somehow, it got dropped. The goofy youngsters didn't pick up on it, and continued to press dad for their breakfast. It took a few moments, till one of the birds behind the aggressive little beggar in the front caught on and made off with it. Comical little birds, a joy to watch.

Having a bit of fun at home in my garage. Created this scene with a toy Goofy figurine and some props I had on hand. Motion blur created in Photoshop.
Penelope (left) and Scarlett have developed a friendship inside the goat pavilion at Belmont Audubon Habitat. They sometimes nuzzle each other, or engage in light horseplay. Above, they are gently butting and rubbing heads, while standing on climbing structures (built by a local Eagle Scout).

I enjoy letting the goat graze while I tend to the garden at the farm (background). That's Peppers, Julianne and Cleo. On the table are new dahlia plants that I bought today. I need to find a place to plant them.
