The sun was shining directly into the window.

The light filled the church and overwhelmed the scene.

Alone I finished my morning prayers.

All I had with me was my trusty little Kodak.

Happy Easter friends.

I thought that this was an appropriate shot for today. Churches in the Brisbane region have rejoiced at the end of our brief lockdown after missing live Good Friday services and all of Easter in last year's lockdown. Masks are mandatory inside, except for homes etc. in the state of Queensland for the next two weeks.

May I take this quote from Luke 23, 39-43.

"One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed "So you're the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself - and us, too, while you're at it!"

But the other criminal protested, "Don't you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die? We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn't done anything wrong" Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom."

And Jesus replied "I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise."

La processione dei Misteri di Trapani

This is what greeted us as we emerged from Good Friday service. Have seen moon halos before, but never a full rainbow and partial double. Our church is in the lower right hand corner right below the lit cross. Santa Catalina Mountains in Oro Valley, Arizona are silhouetted in the background. It was a magical evening. Also taken earlier that same evening: flic.kr/p/2nAjiJM and another halo, this time around the sun: flic.kr/p/2pJSKN7 .

There were also 2 others, malefactors. led with him to be put to death, And when they came to the place which is called The Skull, there they crucified Him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand and the other on the left. And Jesus said, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And parting his garments among them, they cast lots. And the people stood beholding.

St Luke 23, verses 32-35.

I posted a similar shot in Mar2018.

In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die

And where you invest your love, you invest your life

- Mumford & Sons

More than 25 years ago, I was walking along the Shannon on Good Friday. I met a man listening to the radio on his headphones. He took the headphones out of his ears and said with tears in his eyes: “They've agreed to the Treaty.” The Republic, Ireland, the United Kingdom and the parties in Northern Ireland had agreed to the Good Friday Agreement. This ended the civil war in Ireland. Every year on Good Friday I think of this man and that peace is possible, even if it seemed impossible for a long time and even if it is a long process to keep it stable. Good Friday has been a special day for me for over 25 years.

which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elias. And one ran and filled a spunge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down. And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.

Today is, or tomorrow will be Good Friday. Man shall not live by brick alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

God bless You all!

God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten Son.

John 3:16 & 17

16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.

Each year on Good Friday, hundreds of flagellants, march around the streets of Pampanga. They do this as an act of contrition for their sins. This photo is of one of these flagellants preparing his body for the procession.

This fine carving overlooks a communal grave for nuns from the old convent at Dudwell St Mary's in Burwash Churchyard. I think it starkly portrays the reality of that barbarous way of silencing inconvenient and awkward people. We have notreally progressed far.

Jesus paid the price

" ... he went and prayed, saying: My Father, if this chalice may not pass away, but I must drink it, thy will be done." -- Matthew 26:42

One day among a world of thorns a rose began to grow.

It was the greatest gift of God this world will ever know.

It was the will of God to show that since the world was formed,

There had to be a rose to live and die among the thorns.

I can't find the songwriter to give credit. Listen to The Inspirations sing this beautiful hymn.
