A very nice neighbourhood. You can say 'goodday' to someone and be pretty sure you won't get an answer. It's the rule of the streets...care for yourseld first. Do not get involved. I think that will only get worse in this country. Well, I am glad I don't permanently live there. But some days I get too many reminders that humans can be rotten.
Found a pigeon last week, it was crouching next to a house in a very busy part of town. I assumed it had got hit by a car, I could see it's leg was hurt and it's tail was gone. It must have been so scared there, not able to hide anywhere. I got myself a box and walked home with it, then took it to the vet by car. The vet was surprised because the pigeon had clipped wings, which meant it had 'belonged' to someone and was totally unable to make it in the wild. Hence it getting hit by a car. The leg had a bad break and the vet thought it was most humane to let it go to sleep. I sort of had expected it, but it was still a bummer.
By the way, I am not trying to put myself on some kind of pedestal here or fishing for praise. I don't think that what I did was extraordinary at all, but it was something that I think normal, could not have left it sitting there.
