This handsome art nouveau house was built in 1904-05, designed by the architect Jiří Stibral and exterior details by the sculptor Ladislav Šaloun. In a city known for its beautiful turn of the (last) century architecture, it might also be worth remembering what was torn down to give way to this - in this case a 15th century house.
The lettering of the Goethe institute matches the exterior quite well, but is a much later addition. This building started life as the headquarters for a bank, and after the second world war, it was an embassy - first three years for Bulgaria and then for East Germany, all the way up until the unification. So it is perhaps not that surprising that it was here the Goethe Institute moved in, in 1991, both to teach the language and as a place to present the culture.

In den kommenden Tagen soll der Winter auch im Harz ein Comeback geben. Erste zarte Flocken sind heute bereits auf Brocken gefallen.

Das Denkmal zu Ehren Johann Wolfgang von Goethes wurde 1900 enthüllt und befindet sich an der Ecke Operngasse und Goethegasse. Gegenüber ist der Schillerplatz mit dem Schillerdenkmal.

The monument in honour of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was unveiled in 1900 and is located on the corner of Operngasse and Goethegasse. Opposite is Schiller Square with the Schiller Monument.
Though it was restored after WW2,
maybe... someday... J.W.Goethe was looking just this.

1817 erhielt der Botanische Garten Belvedere in Weimar eines dieser Exemplare. Wenig später beobachtete Johann Wolfgang von Goethe dort, wie kleine Pflänzchen an den Blatträndern der Mutterpflanze wuchsen. Davon fasziniert, begann Goethe mit der Aufzucht und der genauen Beobachtung dieser Pflanze.

der goetheturm (aus holz) wurde am 12. oktober 2017 durch brandstiftung völlig zerstört. er war ein beliebtes ausflugsziel von frankfurt. in einer umfrage stimmten 78 % der bürger dafür, den turm wieder originalgetreu aufzubauen. man verwendete jedoch eine stahlkonstruktion und schwer entflammbares holz. es gingen spenden von fast 200.000 euro ein, der wiederaufbau kostete jedoch fast 2,4 mio. euro und ist durch eine versicherung abgedeckt. die wiedereröffnung war im oktober 2020.

it was one of frankfurt's beloved landmarks, visited by many tourists. in a survey 78 % of respondents wanted the reconstruction to be true to the original. citizens donated just under 200,000 euros to support the project. the construction costs amounted to 2.4 million euros, with the majority paid by insurance. the opening to the public took place in october 2020.
Found in Grimma. The little plaque says Goethe stopped here in 1811 and rested. German speakers will get a kick out of the little word "(aus)" . I thought it was amusing.
Goethe wählte die Zimmerfarben in seinem Wohnhaus bewusst aus, weil er mit jeder Farbe eine bestimmte Wirkung/Regung erzielen wollte. Er verfasste ja bekanntermaßen seine eigene Farbenlehre.
Hier schauen wir vom blauen Junozimmer - das hat diese Farbe bekommen, weil sie kühl ist und dadurch den Fokus auf die Kunstwerke lenken soll - in den gelben Saal.
Sowohl Goethe als auch ich finden, dass die gelben Zimmer erheiternd, einladend und freundlich wirken. Er wollte damit zum geselligen Beisammensein, zum Reden und Fröhlichsein anregen.
Das Vorzimmer zu den Familienzimmern und das "Deckenzimmer" sind rosa-rot. Man sieht ein kleines Stückchen davon, bevor es dann ins "Große Sammlungszimmer" geht, welches sich durch eine türkise Wandfarbe auszeichnet.
Für seine Arbeitsräume wählte er grün, das steht ja bekanntermaßen für Ruhe. Nach Goethes Farbenverständnis auch für ablenkungsfreies Arbeiten.
Der Herr im Bild ist natürlich nicht der große Meister selbst, aber nachdem ich dessen Mantel im Museum bewundern konnte, vermute ich, dass des Aufsehers Statur der des Hausherrn nicht unähnlich ist... ;-)))
Das Haus, in dem Johann Wolfgang von Goethe ein halbes Jahrhundert lang lebte, von 1782 bis zu seinem Tod am 22. März 1832. Die Struktur des Gartens, der hauptsächlich der Versorgung des großen Hauses mit Obst und Gemüse diente, entspricht noch weitgehend der Situation aus den 1820er Jahren. Allerdings wurden die alten Gemüsegärten durch Rasenflächen ersetzt.
The house where Johann Wolfgang von Goethe lived for half a century, from 1782 until his death on March 22, 1832. The structure of the garden, which was mainly used to supply the large house with fruits and vegetables, still largely corresponds to the situation in the 1820s. However, the old vegetable gardens have been replaced by lawns.
La maison ou Johann Wolfgang von Goethe vécut durant un demi-siècle, de 1782 jusqu’à sa mort survenue le 22 mars 1832. La structure du jardin, qui servait principalement à approvisionner la grande maison en fruits et légumes, correspond encore largement à la situation des années 1820. Cependant, les anciens potagers ont été remplacés par des pelouses.
