This poem will be familiar to friends in the U. K. because it was read on Christmas Day, 1939, 3 months into a frightening World War II, by King George VI. The poem was given to him by his 13 year old daughter, Elizabeth.
I've always loved it and today seems to be a good day to post it.
To tip or not to tip. That is the question we ask ourselves every time isn't it. Sometimes it's insidious how they hide these things, but yet in plain sight at the same time.
But can you afford to take the chance? You decide....

And WATCH THIS
Funny there should be an Arriva bus from godknows where here in Baker Street on the 758 (I assume it was standing in for a coach).
I was amused that this bus had a personal name. Well, hello Frank? What the hell you doing here in Baker Street?
If someone can explain to me what the meaning of this is... I hope there's a bus called Jacques (Jack is close enough ;D )somewhere wherever this bus came from.
Two women discussed making spaghetti bolognese. The whole room fell silent, in respect. One nodded gravely, having bought godknows how many tomatoes from this particular stall in the Rahat market, and peeled them, properly, knowing how the job should correctly be done and properly, ah-ha, nodded about. I felt my whole culture inadequate, my mother, wife, self, everyone not up to scratch. It’s true: I can’t even spell Elenor Rosavelt. And it was fine, me blending into the background as is proper for my sex, and being without a super-wife spag-bolist here and therefore not likely to win any glittering prizes, until I thought to contribute by telling the room how I’d bought a packet of dehydrated spaghetti bolognese and mixed in goats cheese to give it some taste. Then I got a well deserved silence, career stumping, hard shouldered, rock breasted, flared nosed, unsmiling goodnight from a lady in, I thought, knickers so large any woman with any libido at all wouldn’t slip anything into (her husband hadn’t been allowed to have his own slice of birthday cake and only spoke, quietly, when spoken to). To be top man you have to have a First Lady who makes spaghetti bolognese and, no doubt, quilts, and ensures by force her husband doesn’t tell a soul he’s ever cooked or eaten anything dehydrated or even thought about anything to do with a goat and who knows not to join a floor where women parade their feathers jostling for the highest chair, drenching lesser ones in verbal hormones. And what of the guy whose birthday it was? I think he spoke about work a bit. I can’t remember. And his wife, who’d had caterers provide the food, hadn’t been acknowledged as a woman at all.
...if Haruhi Suzumiya,a girl whose god-like powers could change the universe on a whim without her even knowing it, met the Man of Steel? Would they be buddies? Would the universe as we know it be over? Would Haruhi be thrilled at meeting an actual alien from the planet Krypton? Would there be a serious language barrier?
Please discuss.

Apr 21, 2011: Some serious traffic on this photo from www.facebook.com today. Welcome, and feel free to leave a comment.
We attended The Rock Church. Pastor Glen was not there. He was in the hospital in Tallahassee.
FaceBook post from him: "Late yesterday evening I developed severe headaches and was rushed to the hospital where they found I had a bleed on my brain. Air lifted me to Tallahassee where further CT showed no continued bleeding and good arterial blood flow to all areas. PTL! They are doing a procedure this morning to confirm and try to find the source of the original bleed and to repair it. Likely an extended stay because I have to me monitored closely for several days. Prayers needs are: for Jerolyn and the girls, no more bleeding, and that my body will absorb residual blood without complications. #Godknows #Godisfaithful"
We invited Karen & Greg and Carolyn & Benny to lunch at VCC. Later Jim and I took a nap in our recliners.

Sheffield Hallam University Buildings - City Campus: Owen Building in background and Stoddart building to the right
The Duluth St oddity had this sign in the window today, instead of the Planters poster that had graced the entrance for godknows how many decades.
Update!
"Binky" (gah my memory for names is atrocious... in one ear out the other...) from Fuchsia across the street (where the pink sign above points you to) has bought the building and will be moving in. She wants to get as many people as possible to come share their stories and take pictures/videos of the place before she does anything.
As for P.Gillman:
- he bought the place in 1935-36
- Ukrainian jewish immigrant
- pillar of the community. everyone around knows him (shock. I've lived around the corner for 12 years and have never ever seen him or even heard of him)
- he would drive in from Laval (!!) on a regular basis.
- he died last Novemner, at 97 years old
The Planters posters that were in the windows went to his two grandchildren in Toronto.
If you want to know more, or if you want to take pictures/video, please go visit Fuchsia at 54 Duluth est, Wednesday to Saturday 12-7pm. You can also get something good to eat while yer there. ;)
