There was a time, long ago, when model railroads were a common "toy" that would appear before Christmas and be put away after the start of the new year. While these were "inter-generational "toys" they seem to be a long-forgotten relic, which is certainly the case for this locomotive and coal tender.

Gobo Night At The Tavern All Welcome!~

Thank You Jess For Joining Me ♥

I thought I'd post one more of that beautiful sunburst PRS that I'd forgotten I'd photographed. This time using a gobo.

A Gobo is a stencil or device that creates shadow patterns using light, often used in the Theatre.

I spent the weekend in Greyton again... and since it was my birthday on Saturday... I decided to get up really early... to shoot the sunrise in the Gobos River gorge.

Although I awoke to a sky filled with thick fog... I suspected that it would dissipate shortly after sunrise... which it did... presenting me with this beautiful scene... which I captured mere seconds after the sun popped out above the mountain on my right.

What a great start to my special day!

Gobos and colorful lighting lends an atmosphere of celebration to the interior of Union Station in Kansas City, Missouri.

We had some crazy streaky clouds over Greyton at sunrise on Saturday morning... so I visited one of my favourite locations to shoot them... the entrance to the Gobos River gorge.

You know the best part? I got to spend a couple of hours all alone in a natural paradise... sitting in the middle of a cool, tranquil river... enjoying a gorgeous sunrise.

What a great way to start any day! :)

Here is a shot of the full moon rising between the peaks of the Riviersonderend mountains this weekend... deep in the Gobos River Gorge near Greyton.

I'll be the first to admit that it's not the most earth-shattering photo that I've ever taken... but I'm actually quite proud of it... considering the planning and effort that went into getting this shot.

You see... there are only one or two nights per year when the full moon rises directly in line with the Gobos gorge... with it rising neatly in the middle of the V-shape created by the peaks on either side of the gorge.

And how did I know that last weekend would offer ideal conditions for this image that I've been planning in my head for over a year now?

It was all thanks to "The Photographer's Ephemeris".

Here's an image from my recent Greyton workshop... captured about an hour after sunrise... in the Gobos River Gorge.

Yes I know... the highlights are blown in this photo! That is a cardinal sin to me... I don't enjoy pure-white pixels as much as I enjoy almost any other colour pixels... and I always do my best not to clip the highlights when I capture my images.

Shooting directly into the sun is a very tricky situation to correctly expose for... it's relatively easy within a minute or two after sunrise or before sunset... but when the sun has been up for a while and it's just popped out from behind a white cloud... that situation definitely calls for blending several bracketed images together.

The two photos that I blended together to create this image were exposed a full SEVEN stops apart... it took all my blending skills to get the final image to look more or less what I remember seeing at the time!

I have included the two differently exposed photos that I used to create this image in the comments section below.

I went back here since my flash and the sun failed me last time. I'm going to have to make many return trips for more portraits and light painting. Expect more in the near future!
