"Smile on Saturday" Mr Angry HSoS

The Goblin King is a giant, vain, grotesque creature. He has grown fat and flabby through years of tyrannical rule over the wretched inhabitants of Goblin Town

I actually cried when I realised he wasn't with us anymore :,(

I was 13 when I got the DVD of Labyrinth and I loved it so much <3

That's why I decided to make a Bowie tribute with a scene from this charming movie:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=VppuD1St8Ec

Do you have a favourite song by David Bowie? I think mine is most definitely Space Oddity.

Jareth the Goblin King from Jim Hensons Labyrinth. A tribute to the actor who played him, the late David Bowie.

A new group of villains is on the scene.

With great ambition, and a much smaller skillfulness, they plan to make the world the grave of their enemies but all they can do is to make a fool of themselves.

Ladies and Gentlemen I present the:

First Order Goblins!

Their origins are unknown. Someone says a mysterious phenomenon turned Kylo Ren and several of his servants into Goblins (well it can’t be worse of what Kylo was before lol)

Others claim this Goblin King became such a huge fan of Kylo Ren he decided to emulate the First Order (to be honest the Goblin King never looked like a genius after all lol).

Whatever the truth is the Goblin King has been spotted smashing things during his prolonged tantrums, claiming to be an emissary of darkness and screaming “Help me, Sauron! I will finish what you started!” etc.

In any case he is completely out of his mind like Kylo.

I hope you like this photo :)

May the Brick be with You :)

You remind me of the babe...

I really can't come up with the words for how hard this morning's news hit... David Bowie gave us more than just a half-century of art. His works have inspired musicians of so many genres, both directly and indirectly. He stood for those "in the dark." Possibly most important, have gave us the gift of self-expression. While self expression has a long way to go before we are all accepted, he helped get us so very far. As the man who gave definition to the term "re-invent," David Bowie's passing calls to mind the Highwaymen song, "Highwayman", particularly the final verse:

"I fly a starship

Across the Universe divide

And when I reach the other side

I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can

Perhaps I may become a highwayman again

Or I may simply be a single drop of rain

But I will remain

And I'll be back again, and again and again and again and again"

Part of our history is gone, but that is always the way. Now part of our future is gone as well, and it is difficult to describe the irksome feeling of a gap where something definitive was. Thank you David Bowie for everything you gave us, until the very end. Godspeed.

An outtake from Lego Hobbit™ 79010 The Goblin King Battle photoshoot in 2012. Made in collaboration with Lego. Nothing wrong with this photo, it just didn't fit the series, it got axed and I shot another one to replace it. The series got a lot better.

I like this image and since it was not used in the official campaign, I'm free to post it here. Waiting to see the last episode of the trilogy, The Battle of the Five Armies.

I thought this weeks theme would have been difficult for me to think of a concept, but I came up with something very quickly. For those who don't recognize it, this concept is based of a scene from the movie Labyrinth, with the "helping" hands.

This edit was crazy and took forever, which is why I am posting it late today. I made sure I got it done by today though, I don't want to miss a week in this project.

This photo still isn't perfect, but I think its somewhat post worthy for my 52 week project. Getting so close to finishing!

"I'm a coward."

Well, I think that pretty well sums up this lovable old curmudgeon. From 1986's "Labyrinth," here is my Lego version of Hoggle. One day I'll get around to making him some companions in the same scale. Namely Sir Didymus and Ludo.

This build features some custom pieces from some very talented people.

November 20 Is Hug a Runner Day

What motivates you to run?

We see a lot of people keeping their social distancing by running on sidewalks, paths, or even along the roadside. For our champion Jeri Jo Jogger, she’s motivated by her friends who cheer her on and stay ahead of the Goblin King and his warriors. She also keeps track of her running distance, active minutes, and heart rate. The biggest thing about jogging or running or even walking is to set aside that critical time each day and do it! Routine and good habits pay off great dividends for your health when you are devoted to do it. Motivation also plays a key part.

What started this day? The ‘Globally Organized Hug A Runner Day’, abbreviated as the acronym G.O.H.A.R.D., is an annual event that is open to all types of runners—and even to walkers. Created by runners Adam Goucher and Tim Catalano, founders of Run The Edge, “Globally Organized Hug A Runner Day” has a few goals. First, the day raises money and awareness for organizations that help children. Some organizations that have been supported by the day include ‘Girls on the Run’, ‘Playworks’, ‘Shoes That Fit’, and the ‘American Society for Deaf Children’. The money is raised through registration fees for an annual running event that takes place on the day and on the days leading up to it. A second goal of the day is this running event, where Run The Edge gives away $500 to participants on the day and on each of the nine days preceding it. To be eligible, one must walk or run a 5K on each day they are participating and then must enter information about it into the Run The Edge Tracker. The last goal of the day is for runners to hug other runners! (Yet today with social distancing and all, the runners will probably do a ‘{{{distance hug}}}’ to keep safe.

How to Observe

Celebrate by safely jogging, running, or walking on safe paths. Build up your endurance and speed. Keep hydrated and wear appropriate clothing. If you haven’t started a regimen of walking or running, consult your doctor to get clearance and guidance and then find ways to devote that time regularly each week. Track your progress on one of many available activity apps or on-line programs. Invite others to join you—keeping safely distanced, of coure!—and encourage them along the way and at the ‘finish line’. Celebrate goals of distance, weight loss, or just daily commitment to keeping yourself healthy. “{{{Hugging}}}” a runner virtually or from a distance will keep both of you healthy and motivated to continue.

DON'T CROSS THE STREAMS !!

'Tis the season to drink rather a lot and this double hand of infernal ignobles practice imoderation in all things. Even evil Emperors, callous Kings and dark lords have got to go, when they've got to go...and so....

Never shy when it comes to spending a forged penny the rival villains (there's no point in ruling a, or many, worlds if you have to share!) agree to a temporary truce

where, for the moment, they'll refrain from crossing, er, swords.

From Left to Right, the assembled Pee-rs of Assorted Sundry Realms include:

-Darkseid, Supreme Monarch of Apokolips from D.C comics. 2008 Mattel action figure, 18 cm (7 inch). Great Darkseid is holding the Anti-Life Equation Motherbox well out of the way, it's one thing to annihilate all living things by choice, quite another to do so accidentally because you dropped the Ultimate Destructor into the urinal trough. "Whoops!" would be just a tad inadequate, though "Flushed!" would perhaps bring a rare smile to even the tyrant's grim face.

-Max von Sydow as Emperor Ming The Merciless of Mongo from "Flash Gordon".

2007 Entertainment Earth, action figure 18 cm (7 inch).

Klytus: "Excuse me your Majesty, if you've finished the minions wish to grovel before your magnificence..."

Ming: "Not yet. I like to play with things a while before....urination."

-Prince Vlad III Dracula of Wallachia aka Vlad Ţepeş (Vlad The Impaler) here seen in his incarnation as Count Dracula from Marvel Comics. 2006 Toy Biz Marvel Legends: Monsters action figure, 18 cm (7 inch).

Drac: "Ohmidemigod! Lookithat! I'm pissing blood...vat's up vith dat? Oh! Heh heh. Wampire! I forgot again." (Several hundreds years old the Master Vampire's memory is not what it once was. Given his late-night liquid suppers it's no wonder his expression is colourful.)

-David Bowie as The Goblin King Jareth from "Labyrinth". 2008 NECA Cult Classics action figure, 18 cm (7 inch). There's always one clown who'll have the ill-manners to answer a call on their cell phone, Palantir, or Dance Magic Dancing Balls whilst visiting the Bog of Eternal Stench.

-Lord of the Nazgûl, the Witch-King of Angmar, from "The Lord Of The Rings". 2003 Toy Biz action figure, 21 cm (8 inch). The Black Captain is always literally relieved to visit the Gents, as he's reasonably certain that most of the other occupants will be Men Of Women Born.

-Ricardo Montalban as the Augment Prince Khan Noonian Singh from "Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan". 2007 Diamond Select action figure, 21 cm (8 inch). Frozen in cryogenic suspended animation for over 200 years is a long time between calls of genetically engineered nature. By the way, that's a Ceti Eel behind him...nothing else!

Admiral James T. Kirk: "He's in the CANNNNNN!!!!"

-King of Latveria, Victor Von Doom from Marvel Comics. 2002 Toy Biz action figure 16cm (6 1/2 inch). Armoured as he is Doom's never without a handy wrench so he won't get caught when caught short. Standing next to Kong, Doom displays his legendary iron will (and prudent desire to avoid being turned into Spam in a can) by refraining from passing the tool to the Great Ape with the droll comment, "Monkey wrench?"

-Prince Kong of Skull Island from "King Kong". 1973 Mattel 21 cm (8 inch) toy. (On loan from the Toy Box Of Jason Heller). A little bit younger, a little bit smaller. This is a splendid toy! When manipulated the knurled wheel in the back causes the massive arms to flail about in grand fashion.

-Sir Derek Jacobi as the renegade Timelord, The Master, from "Doctor Who- Utopia". 2006 Character Options action figure, 13 cm (5 inch). As much as I enjoy actor John Simm's interpretation of the Doctor's arch nemesis I would have loved to see Jacobi play the character for a bit longer than it took the Master to shed the disguise of Professor Yana. He's not bothered by having to share the facilities with his fellow meglomaniacs, after all, the Face Of Boe once foretold, "You Are Not Alone." I interviewed Sir Derek before he played The Master...if only I'd known! :)

-Emperor Zurg of Planet Z (voiced by Andrew Stanton) from "Toy Story 2". McHappy Meal action figure, 10 cm (4 inch). Do Cyborgs Stream Electric Pee? Both Zurg and The Master are smaller figures than the others, and with similar scale figures I sometimes use forced perspective (or simply have them standing on a matchbox!) to make them fit the scene. In this case I simply rescaled them in Photoshop.

I used the splashback tiles on our laundry benchtop for the background, with some repurposed model space station solar panels as the decking. A bit of old aluminium sheeting served as the urinal, tweaked a little with Photoshop filters.

It may seem curious that such mighty malevolences don't have individual...thrones...but that's just because the Heroes have commandeered the priority toilets so they can V.I.Pee. Typical!

Look at him watching over sleeping Toby. Who wouldn't entrust their baby to such a handsome man? Nothing nefarious here.

Er.. Fan-Art Wednesday? Woops.

This week is Labyrinth. One of my favourite ever films. Everything was brilliant about this film, from the characters, the writing, the music, to the set and puppets.

I wasn't even alive when this film was released but I watched it over and over as I grew up. One of the things I love most about it is it really reminds me of my sisters, we watched it together a ton. Although now they only seem to remember David Bowie's bulge.

Reference and a Reminder!

clothes by ELKE (de.pinterest.com/elkeschmoranzka/)

I've been a huge David Bowie fan almost my entire life. I found the news of his death to be crushing and am still really sad.

I found solace in finally getting the David Bowie tattoo I've always wanted, and failed to get a number of times throughout my life.

Thanks to JONNY CAKES @thehalfdecent at ELEVATED INK on Kingston Road for helping nail down my vague concept and turning pain into more pain but, finally, art. Also thanks to my friend Hardeep for taking direction and helping take pictures of me.

He watches over my Baby Tears.

Affairs of state forbade me from attending Boston Comic-Con on Sunday, and that's a damn shame for anyone with a camera. That's the day of the costume contest. It's akin to the days of the old West, when buffalo darkened the Plains like a black cloud.

Cosplayers were thinner on the ground on Saturday, but there were many choice specimens. I was even free to take my pick of Jared The Goblin Kings.

This is a fun character to photograph. She looks terrific. Plus, when you've got a photo of a fantasy/magic character, you've got a license to finally break out the weird vignette and "presence" Photoshop tools without shame.

We live, we learn: I've messed up enough of these shots in the past that I was thinking "Make sure you have the flash firing under and into that canopy of hair, and double-make-sure you're locking focus on the face and not the hand." If you're committed to taking up as little of the person's time as possible, it's important to make mistakes in your head as you approach your subject, and correct them before you take the picture.

can't remember... tip of my tongue...
