Today's story and sketch "by me" we see Dorko Gofish piloting the legendary Dorko Shell Transporter, at his private
Razor Clam beach, (Better Known today as Solana Beach), This is the very spot thousands of years ago where Dorko found the
famous Razor Clams, which he used to shave the local Native Women, The city got it's name because Dorko built the first
Salon for women, who at the time were known as the Moustache Women of the Furbi Tribe. It seems at the time, Dorko
could not differentiate the Men from the Women Furbi's. Most of the women were very flat chested but quite furry.
(This was Long before the implant technology introduced by Dorko's Brother "Gobig Gofish'), but that is a story for
another time. Once the natives were no longer afraid of the four foot tall grey Alien Dorko, and they began to Party
at Dorko's beach house on weekends, they would dance and munch on Dorko's popular "Torry Pine Nut, Moon Pies".
On just such a weekend Dorko meet is first Wife (Cowlick Furbi), She was a dark, very hairy, short for Furbi women beauty,
with big dark eyes, not as big or dark as Dorko's, but big and dark. After the very festive wedding on the beach,
Dorko gave Cowlick a very nice Coiffure hair style, and a nice cool summertime facial and chest shave. When her
girlfriends saw how beautiful Cowlick looked, they were lining up at the shack for that new clean shaved
and Coiffured look.
Those were happy times, but time moved on, Dorco no longer uses the Razor Clam, but uses the Lazer Razor, which
he invented many years ago, Dorko has had many, (many wives and girlfriends), through the
centuries, but has remained at this very location, modernized the shop many times, Local and alien women
from around the galaxy make their reservations up to a year in advance, just to get into Dorko's one chair salon.
Which he named Lazor Razor Salon, reservations available at www.razorlazorsalon.com

This Leyland Leopard PSU5C/4R / Alexander T Type B51F was new to Singapore Bus Services in September 1979 as SBS6791, originally built with two doors. It returned to the UK in 1982 to dealer Paul Sykes, before joining the fleet of Woods of Mirfield (GOBIG). Allander of Milngavie bought it for their Loch Lomond bus services division in May 1989. Allander had it rebodied in May 1992 with a new Plaxton Derwent 2 B57F body. On disposal it passed to Finglands of Rusholme, then went to Ireland joining the fleet of Kavanagh's of Tipperary before being scrapped in 2007.
Now here's a body that stirred up some debate - I won't say it divided opinion, as I don't ever remember anyone saying that they liked it !
This was the pioneering Wright Contour body on the British mainland, on a Bedford YNT chassis, and it had just been acquired by Woods of Mirfield after a spell on demonstration duties. We dropped by in the hope that it may be in the depot, which it was, and we then managed to persuade them to put it in the sun outside. I did see it plenty more times after this, and with most of its later operators, but you never know that at the time.
Pity I ignored the boring old Plaxtons parked either side of it ....

New to Gobig (Woods), Mirfield
The Running Footman clearly shares my enthusiasm for obscure coaches of the 1980s and for Showbus 2006 he brought along his ACE Puma. For those who don't know, Alternative Chassis Engineering was the successor to erstwhile coach operator/manufacturer Ward Bros of Lepton, Huddersfield, and offered an array of chassis in their Predator range. Total production only just scraped into double figures, the Puma midicoach being the most common type with nine built; Van Hool and Plaxton bodied four each with the first chassis uniquely having a Wright body.
WOOD OF MIRFIELD
C88 XCJ, a Duple Laser 2, bodied Bedford YNV, was new to Wood's, in March, 1986, and is seen working for National Express.
By this time J. Wood & Son had become part of the Abbeyways (Traject) group, and their official name was now Gobig, Mirfield.
JCP240S was a Ford R1114 / Plaxton Supreme C53F new as Joseph Woods of Mirfield number 40 in May 1978, seen in Scarborough.
Joseph Wood began operations in 1925 and obtained a licence for a service from Mirfield to Dewsbury. The route was shared with Yorkshire Woollen, and three independents...Box, Crowther and Longstaff. Box and Crowther soon vanished leaving the other three. Although they arranged their timings to provide an even headway, there was no joint formal operation. The business became a partnership between Joseph, his wife Alice and son Colin.
The company was purchased by Steven Ives in 1983. Ives already owned Abbeyways-Ivesways and Abbeyways-Hanson. Wood's licence was transferred to an off the shelf company called GOBIG Ltd. Sadly this company was placed into voluntary liquidation in 1990.
