goat's milk cheese (Flassigny) on gaume bread

i should make it my scapegoat...

Tragopogon pratensis

After 30 years of service from Billy Goat's old tow truck he desperately needed a replacement.

This is apparently a naturally occurring variety of goat's foot sorrel, the ordinary variety of which has 5 petals. Ornamental cultivars of many species have been selected for extra whorls of petals (the garden rose was bred up from a 5-petaled wild rose), but I was surprised to see one known from the wild. It reproduces asexually -- the mutant flowers are not functional. Both mutant and wild-type are native to South Africa and are invasive in the Mediterranean. It was growing in a wet ditch.

An adult male Mountain Goat gets a good look at the first light of the day. This image was taken from the summit of Mount Evans in Colorado at an elevation of 14,130 feet.

Yellow Goat's-beard (Tragopogon dubius) - Sandy Hook National Seashore, New Jersey

I like the "Statue of Liberty" crown on this flower. It could be that the petals will eventually dwarf the sepal points, but it looks great at this point in its development, and it really stood out from everything within 50 feet of it!

Photographed July 25, 2014 in our front yard garden. Equipment used: Sony SLT-A58, Sony SAL 75-300mm lens and focus rail mounted on Focal tripod.

Riddled through with fenugreek seeds . Keep taking the statins I say...

Goat's cheese, cherry tomatoes, fresh spinach and olive oil, sauteed with penne pasta and topped with toasted pine nuts

In the middle of a forest, in the middle of the day.

Blasted to blackness with an SB600 (below camera, handheld, diffused with a receipt taped across the front, 1/4 power). I was temporarily blinded, but it all turned out alright...

Giant Goat's Beard - Aruncus dioicus

Goat's-beard is a noxious weed that overtakes native plants. Unfortunately, it does have quite an attractive yellow flower and a beautiful seedhead when opened, a little like that of the dandelion, but larger.

Cubes of Kabocha pumpkin, splashed with some peanut oil, sprinkled with chili salt mixture, ovenroasted at 190C for 20 minutes. With a pesto made of winter purslane (winterpostelein in dutch), pistachio nuts, parmesan cheese, olive oil, peper, salt and half of a grated garlic. Finished with some crumbled goat's cheese and some fresh/ halfwilted winter purslane. Oh, and some nigelle seeds.

Not bad, not great either. A bit dry.

Chicken, goat's cheese with coriander seeds, courgette and penne pasta

1. Grill a chicken breast (with little oil, pepper and salt). Set aside

2. Grill courgette cubes (with little oil, pepper and salt). Set aside

3. Cook and drain the penne.

4. Pan-fry some cubes of smoked bacon until nice and brown.

5. Take out a little bit of the rendered fat if it's too much.

6. Gently pan-fry a chopped shallot with the bacon for 2-3 minutes.

7. Add a chopped clove of garlice and pan-fry for half a minute.

8. Add glass of white wine and let it reduce.

9. Add some cream and the grated goat's cheese with coriander and try to combine it into a sauce.

10. Add the grille courgette.

(I used 200g chicken, 50 g smokey bacon, 420g courgette, 85g cheese, 100ml white wine, 100ml cream, 200g dried penne)

Plating up: first the penne, then the courgette/cheese-sauce, the grilled chicken cubes and finish with some fresh basil and ground pepper.

Not bad, for a pasta. (should have reserved some of the starchy cooking water to smoothen the sauce though)

I call this illustration "掛羊頭 (Hanging up a goat's head)", originating from the Chinese saying "掛羊頭, 賣狗肉", which literally means "to hang up a goat's head and sell dog meat". Most Chinese people should be familiar with this saying, which basically means "to try to palm off something inferior to what it purports to be". (Thank you, Google dictionary.)

I came up with this concept because of how the local "(young/underaged) model" industry has become these past few years. It has come to a point where it's like, whatever it is that needs to be advertised, whether it be a model agency or an online game or whatever, just put out a seductive young girl wearing skimpy outfits showing off their "assets" if ya know what I mean (not to mention all these gossip magazine with perverted covers and ridiculously bad taste) ... when in fact, it's an open secret that what is being "sold" is actually no different from softcore pornography. If you live in Hong Kong, you should know EXACTLY what I'm talking about. It's not that I'm necessarily against the trend (although I wish those people would be less hypocritical about it sometimes), I'm simply putting it out here.

I used a reference picture of Chrissie Chau (周秀娜) for the drawing. (Again, not particularly targeted at her, but those pictures of her brushing her teeth are just too classic to pass on haha)

I also posted up some closeups and the original sketch on my art blog with Kensou: oliveteaxkensou.blogspot.com/2010/09/cg-illustration-hang...

You will love the sweet, sugary scent of my bubble gum soap. Every bar is hand cut and weighs 4+oz. My soaps are gentle on your skin and will not strip away the natural oils unlike commercially made bars. Each order is custom made just for you to ensure quality and freshness.

This soap contains real goat's milk, which is considered to be a natural skin conditioner.

Hypo-allergenic. Coconut Oil Base.

No jetlag coming in to Bali from Melbourne after a six-hour flight. So I was already footing it on the beach in the morning of my short stop-over on the way to Lombok.

Kuta, of course, is well-known for being a 'playground' for holiday-makers especially from Australia. The scene, too, of terrible violence some ten years ago.

Still there's a lot to be seen of nature on the beaches once you're free of the usual surfers and the coconut-oil smearers.

Here's pretty Goat's Foot or Ipomoea pes-caprae, and perhaps more appropriately after last night's deluge: Beach Morning Glory. I tried to photograph as well some of this pan-tropical plant's insect visitors but without enough success - maybe I was more jet-lagged than I'd admit. The Latin name 'Ipomoea' is a bit odd for such a pretty flower; it has to do with worms. It's understandable why. The stem-strings cross the sand-dunes like so many wiry worms. Still, worms are hardly as pretty as these luminous purple wonders. Even Goat's Foot, pes-caprae, for the shape of the green leaves is not quite 'right'. Ah! But then there's 'Beach Morning Glory'; yes! that name has it!

Then I thought this four-some Glories worth the attention of my flickr friends.

PS I expect now on Lombok to have better internet connections and opportunity for comments...

Filling In The Human Evolutionary Gap, From Past To Present Day. 33,000 year old ritual burial place of the 'Red Lady' of Paviland. Oldest and most complete human skeleton ever found in Western Europe. Discovered and excavated by Reverend William Buckland in 1823. More recent research by Scientists has determined that the upper Paleolithic [Man] was not more than 21 years old at the time of his death.
