The state of Goa on the western coast of India is famous for its beautiful beaches and is one of the top tourist destinations in the country. However what I love about Goa are its lush greenery, its winding roads lined with coconut trees, its picturesque villages, its quaint architecture dating back to colonial times when it was under Portuguese rule and its unique laidback charm.

Goa is the smallest state of India.

It was under portuguese flag for almost 500 years.

At the present Panaji is the state's capital, while Vasco da Gama is the largest city.

The historic city of Margao still exhibits strongly the cultural influence of the Portuguese, who first landed in the early 16th century as merchants. Soon Goa (Daman and Diu as well) became a colony of Portugal. Goa is a former Portuguese province; the Portuguese overseas territory of Portuguese India existed for about 500 years until it was annexed by India in 1961.

It can be felt the strong influence of Portuguese culture in various areas of Goa.

There is a special wonder feeling in Goa.
