Yellowstone National Park has many geysers but not many as colorful as the Morning Glory Pool. The distinct color of the pool is due to bacteria which inhabit the water. On a few rare occasions the Morning Glory Pool has erupted as a geyser, usually following an earthquake or other nearby seismic activity.

"Morning Glory Pool is losing its brilliant color. Through ignorance and vandalism, people have tossed objects into the hot spring, clogging its vent and lowering the temperature. Brown, orange, and yellow algae-like bacteria thrive in the cooler water, gradually turning the vivid aqua-blue to a murkier greenish-brown.
All thermal features are at risk. Hot springs and geysers have fragile, complex plumbing that takes centuries to develop. Morning Glory's future is uncertain; you can help by immediately reporting any vandalism."
The Torre Glòries is a high-rise building designed by French architect Jean Nouvel. It is located in the Poblenou neighbourhood of Barcelona. According to its architect, the tower is intended to recall the shape of a geyser rising into the air. It was inspired by Montserrat, a mountain near Barcelona. In an interview, Nouvel described the tower as having a phallic character. It measures 144 m.

Wikipedia: Ipomoea aquatica or water spinach, is a semi-aquatic, tropical plant grown as a vegetable for its tender shoots. I. aquatica is generally believed to have been first domesticated in Southeast Asia. It is widely cultivated in Southeast Asia, East Asia, and South Asia. It grows abundantly near waterways and requires little to no care.
Ipomoea aquatica is most widely known as kangkong (also spelled kangkung), which originates from its common name in Southeast Asia. It is also known as water spinach, river spinach, water morning glory, water convolvulus, or by the more ambiguous names Chinese spinach, Chinese watercress, Chinese convolvulus or swamp cabbage.
Ipomoea aquatica is most commonly grown in east, south, and southeast Asia. It flourishes naturally in waterways, and requires little if any care. It is used extensively in Indonesian, Burmese, Thai, Lao, Cambodian, Malay, Vietnamese, Filipino, and Chinese cuisine, especially in rural or kampung (village) areas.

Le Morning Glory Pool (« bassin de la belle-de-jour » en anglais) est une source chaude située dans le Upper Geyser Basin dans le parc national de Yellowstone aux États-Unis.
La couleur de la source chaude est due à des micro-organismes vivant dans l'eau et sur le tapis bactérien recouvrant les surfaces du bassin. Avant les années 1960, la source était uniquement d'un bleu profond. Avec le temps, sa couleur a évolué pour prendre des couleurs jaune et verte brillantes.
Récemment, un groupe de chercheurs a déterminé que l'être humain est responsable de cette transition. En effet, les objets lancés dans la source par les touristes, tels que des pièces, des pierres, des bouts de bois, etc., ont fini par bloquer partiellement l'arrivée d'eau chaude du bassin. Ceci a fait diminuer la température de l'eau et sa faune microscopique a changé en conséquence. Les micro-organismes plus récents produisent des pigments jaunes, verts et orange vifs.
Quant à la transition de couleur observée dans le bassin, qui passe du vert au centre vers l'orangé en périphérie, il est dû à des variations de température de l'eau à l'intérieur de celui-ci, car l'eau a tendance à être plus chaude au centre de la source, accueillant alors des organismes différents. Des effets d'optique sont également responsables des couleurs observées par les visiteurs : la profondeur de l'eau influence en effet la perception des couleurs.
Les responsables du parc ont à plusieurs reprises tenté de déclencher artificiellement des éruptions pour débarrasser la source de ses débris. Une pancarte, placée près de la source par la direction du parc, montre les dégâts causés par l'ignorance et le vandalisme, et suggère que Morning Glory est en train de devenir Faded Glory (littéralement, une « gloire passée »).
À quelques rares occasions, la Morning Glory Pool a fait éruption en geyser, souvent à la suite d'un séisme ou d'autres événements sismiques à proximité.

Deep inside a Morning Glory flower...
I couldn't decide whether to upload this same image but with the beetle in focus and the stigma and anthers out of focus. In the end I went with this one where the flower parts are in clear focus and the bug is lurking in the background :)
I love the white walls of this delicate flower here, the backlighting being the direct sunshine outside of the flower.

I planted several different varieties of Morning Glories this year and they have produced almost no flowers, sadly. But this morning as I walked by I let out a loud 'YAY' when I saw this beauty gracing the sidewalk!
This is the 3rd purple flower I've seen, the other 10 were the classic white and blue.
This is my last post for a few days since I am traveling again to see my elderly parents and to help them through some life transitions...
