Sie hat mir diese wunderschönen kleinen Stacheln gezaubert und zwei große Augen, damit ich meine Freud*innen gut sehen kann aber auch meine Feinde, die Glasbrecher. Ihnen muss ich aus dem Weg gehen damit ich noch sehr lange mit meiner Freundin Kette viele Abenteuer erleben kann.
Liebe Betrachter*in ich wünsche Euch eine gute Woche, Danke das Ihr mich bewundert habt und mir für meine Schönheit ein Sternchen schenkt. Auch Lobeshymnen dürft ihr für mich singen.

My gift to you Russian mareshka. Christmas decoration handmade, which is made at the factory "Ariel", in the city of Nizhny Novgorod. Russia..
Nizhny Novgorod became the place of historical existence of the glass Christmas tree decoration business, beginning in 1936, when the children's toy cooperative gang was organized. It consisted of a glass-blowing art workshop for making Christmas-tree toys..The path to the present day of the Nizhny Novgorod Christmas tree toy was not easy. She survived the war years of 1941–1945, when, along with toys, glass-blowers blew out medical devices and laboratory glassware..In the years after the collapse of the USSR, glassblowers and artists had to learn to work in new economic conditions. It required another competitive toy..In 1996, a new story began in the production of Christmas tree decorations in Nizhny Novgorod. At the Ariel Glass Christmas Tree Factory, the foundations were laid for the future unique school of artistic painting of glass decorations, which in a few years will bring world-wide fame to Nizhny Novgorod masters. The factory team not only quickly mastered the technical features of labor-intensive glass-blowing production, but also made a decisive step in updating the artistic repertoire (product range).
In the town of Gjøvik, Martin Whatson pays tribute to the craftsman. Gjøvik was home to the first private glass factory in Norway, and it's only fitting that a three-story-tall glassblower now decorates one of the town's walls.
This is where the flaming molten glass from my previous photo ended up. The glass artist uses centrifugal force to elongate the vase by swinging it around in the circle. I used a slower shutter speed to accentuate the spinning movement.

Anyone who has ever seen a glassblower at work can only respect his or her craftsmanship. It is a spectacular process to see shape and color given to hot (very very hot) liquid glass. Glassblowing requires fire, skill, muscle power, creativity and years of experience, but then a true work of art is created!
In this photo the glassblower heatens and softens the glass locally so that it can be given the desired shape.

A 35 year old but still modern trinket from Oslo airport. Heavy snowstorm, flight delayed - what to do to absorb time? Prowl systematically around each store slowly inspecting the displays - (Don’t do this at Amsterdam’s Schipol or else you might leave with several diamonds and an empty credit card). This little lead glass owl caught my eye to take home.
He’s sat on a bookcase ever since to remind me of deluges of deicing fluid followed by a 150mph plus dash through horizontal snow and up into the sky.
Made at Norway’s Hadeland Glassverk. The works were established in 1762. They created individual designs in the 1920s with an art director and master glassblower. The works continues to make hand-blown objects.

Columbia Encyclopedia - PeopleChihuly, Dale Patrick (chĭhū'lē) 1941–, American glass artist, b. Tacoma, Wash.; grad. Univ. of Washington, Seattle (B.A., 1965), Rhode Island School of Design (RISD; M.F.A., 1967), Univ. of Wisconsin, Madison (M.S., 1967). Probably the foremost figure in the contemporary art-glass movement, Chihuly experimented with the medium while an undergraduate and studied the glassblower's art at a Venetian glass studio (1968). He founded (1969) the glass department at RISD, taught there for 11 years, and in 1971 established the influential Pilchuck Glass School near Seattle. Extremely prolific, Chihuly (working with a crew of technicians) creates glass sculptures in a rainbow of colors, sometimes opaque, translucent, or iridescent; and in an astonishing variety of semiabstract shapes, including baskets, sea and flower forms, globes, stumps, cylinders, and hanging garlands. His works range from miniatures to large architectural installations, such as the celebrated pieces in Chihuly over Venice (1996) and the works on the Bridge of Glass (2002) at the Museum of Glass: International Center for Contemporary Art in Tacoma, Wash.

In 1998 Master glassblower Dale Chihuly created the "Fiori di Como," a colorful glass ceiling sculpture comprising of more than 2,000 pieces, for Bellagio's lobby in Las Vegas.
This is a Murano glass perfume bottle with its stopper. Although I would love to say that I bought it in Murano - because I have been there - the truth is that I found it in a local shop a couple of years ago. :)
For this week's Smile on Saturday group theme, Portray a Book Title. The novel I chose is 'The Glassblower of Murano' by Marina Fiorato. Here's a brief synopsis of the story from the GoodReads website:
Venice, 1681. Glassblowing is the lifeblood of the Republic, and Venetian mirrors are more precious than gold. Jealously guarded by the murderous Council of Ten, the glassblowers of Murano are virtually imprisoned on their island in the lagoon. But the greatest of the artists, Corradino Manin, sells his methods and his soul to the Sun King, Louis XIV of France, to protect his secret daughter. In the present day his descendant, Leonora Manin, leaves an unhappy life in London to begin a new one as a glassblower in Venice. As she finds new life and love in her adoptive city, her fate becomes inextricably linked with that of her ancestor and the treacherous secrets of his life begin to come to light.
Fourth in the series. The idea of attractors, or points of purpose in the future towards which things move, depicted here in a visual metaphor. Layering in, also, the idea that people with powerful and magnetic ideas as centre points also draw people toward an ideal or purpose in the future.
I'm celebrating these figures with this series - thinkers and artists who've made a powerful impact with their work and though, who've drawn many in toward their deeper messages.
Following after "The Glassblower's Breath" with it's Rumi theme, I thought it appropriate to bring out this image now and post it next to an image honouring one of his works. It was originally created in April 2017 and was sitting in the queue for a long time, until the right moment.
