Jared Odrick, a former defensive end for the NFL, gifted the massive bronze sculpture – titled “Conversation with Myself,” by Colorado-based artist Lorri Acott. The sculptures are in the Coleman Park of Lebanon, PA, one of which is 11′ tall, the other 6′. These sculptures created a lot of mixed responses in the social media. Some people thought the sculptures, were creepy, stunning and provoking, hauntingly beautiful, an adult preying on kids, an alien encounter, etc. People wasn't prepared for this kind of art but the sculptures are still there and Odrick said he hopes the statue gives people who see it “an opportunity to stop, to pause, and take some time to interpret it.”

Give me your laughter as a gift,

Teach me to dream

With just a caress

I lose myself in this sea

Give me your star,

the one that lights up this night

full of peace and harmony,

and I will hand my life to you.

The annual vivarium that is setup at New York’s American Museum of Natural History as the Butterfly Conservatory is a wonderful 80 degree temporary home to almost 500 living butterflies and moths that just closed up at the end of May. Butterfly diversity is decreasing more and more all over the world. In fact I remember growing up not too far from where I live now in northern New Jersey and the many butterflies I would see in our back yard and the park up the street where my parents still reside. The one striking difference is the lack and in some cases total lack of butterflies and moths in many places in New Jersey and New York. They play such a vital role in the life cycle of plants so one can only wonder what effects their decreasing numbers is having on vegetation as insects like butterflies and bees continue to dwindle in number. So this wonderful Conservatory that the American Museum of Natural History sets up annually brings attention to the plight of these wonderfully diverse arthropods and allows one to literally enter into their world. I stayed within the vivarium over an hour, patiently waiting for these gifted insects would come to an area where I could photograph them. Definitely worth seeing if visiting the museum when the conservatory is up.

Taken with Olympus E-5 using a ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 40-150mm F4.0-5.6 handheld RAW file processed in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.

Karen Assayag's work includes an assemblage of creations produced by women themselves.

Photographs taken with a disposable camera that show what they want to share about their daily life outside the day center and on the other, individual portraits during sessions for two, in a privileged time.

This is how, after printing, these photographs are commented on and painted in a collective spirit: eyes meet, confront each other, but above all, this collaboration establishes a benevolent dialogue between each other.

Another way of seeing things by a gifted artist who demonstrates originality ! 😉

I was recently thinking about some of the beautiful outfits I've been given as gifts during the past year by some truly special people I know in Second Life. So then I decided, perhaps a nice way to show how much I appreciated and enjoyed these clothing gifts would be to take some pictures of me in the outfits, and post those pictures here on Flickr.

This darling ensemble was from my friend Tabby. It's a risqué little number, but I love it!

For the Definitely Dreaming Week 48 theme of "A Gift".

I love the inspirational musings of @boyunderthebridge - this is an image I’ve taken in my local park, using one of an envelope full he sent me during lockdown, because I wasn't allowed to the suburbs he was posting them. I truly think that his inspirational notes to be found around many Melbourne suburbs are a beautiful gift to so many people and were especially so during our tough lockdown.

This image was also taken with my Lensbaby Twist60 lens which was gifted to me earlier this year by the husband of a very dear friend who passed away after a short battle with cancer. It is special image for me because of that too, I love the twisty bokeh the lens produces.

A simple translation for my friends who are curious about the words - - -

What is the one thing that drives you crazy?

As if the daily meals are optional, and you never noticed when you fell asleep..

Worry not about the things that you don't have.

You are already gifted.

A Valentine’s treat

About a year ago, I told someone I knew that I really like good cover versions of songs, so they gifted me with a list of their favourite twenty cover versions of songs. Anyway, long story short, last September I glanced at the list again, and suddenly thought about how much fun it might be to make a photo inspired by each of those songs.

This picture was inspired by song number 5 in the playlist, Dreams, originally done by Fleetwood Mac, but the version on my list is performed by The Electric Peanut Butter Company.

youtu.be/6-yh5vJ9LTo

I'll admit, I struggled with this one a bit, and thus ended going for a fairly literal translation of a few key parts of the song, particularly focusing on the words: loneliness, heartbeat, rain, and crystal visions (literally, I am toying with a crystal heart in the rain, cold and alone).

Fun fact: While I was doing this particular photo shoot, I did get a bit distracted by a guy hitting on me while he stood nearby gawping at me. It was a nice enough chat, but it went nowhere in the end. It turns out, the romcoms might be rather overplaying the romantic side of two people being together in the rain.

The air is chill and humid, whilst a soft breeze wafts through the delicate mist. As the bashful sunshine timidly makes its appearance, we're gifted with a relaxing and serene start to a new day.

Or so it seemed to me.

Great Blue Heron

I believe it is an opportunity to be able to observe very closely these beautiful birds. This Heron was a gifted fisher, he would capture his fish, would get it ready to swallow, but would strangely leave it dead in the lake... If you enlarge the picture at the eye level, it is possible to see the interior eyelid, half pulled.

Thank you for visits, comments and faves, always greatly appreciated.

In 1929 a Shetland pony was gifted by Princess Louise, the Regiment's first Colonel-in-Chief. Originally named "Tom thumb", it was decided the pony should have more imposing name, so he was renamed "Cruachan" after the battle cry of the Campbell Clan (who had raised the Argyllshire Highlanders in 1794)

If we look back at the history we see there were popular and well-loved Shetland pony mascots: Cruachan I, Cruachan II, Cruachan III, and Cruachan IV.

Cruachan II was stationed at Stirling Castle, he was presented to the Regiment in 1952 by Mrs Betty Hyde. Cruachan II became the new regiment mascot just in time for him to march at the head of the Battalion on the Unit’s return from the Korean War and the Far East. At this parade, tens of thousands of people lined Princes Street in Edinburgh to welcome the men home to Scotland and Cruachan II behaved excellently despite it being his first public appearance. He was taller than Cruachan I and he liked to be outdoors, normally grazed on a hill throughout the year.

His routine included visits to the wards of the local hospital and as a reward he would have one or two beers that he could finish in seconds. He also got to travel to many countries including Germany and Cyprus with the Battalion, and he famously bit through a glove worn by Queen Elizabeth when she went to pet him during a parade. Cruachan II retired in 1979 until he died five years later in 1984.

Happy Bench Monday!

Noritake pattern Floral Bay gifted as a wedding present. Originally only used for the Christmas table. Whilst taking these photographs for the theme I was reminded of my single life where my best friend would laugh, as I set the table and cooked a steak, made fresh salad and poured a glass of wine for myself at least once a week. "Why do you do that" she would ask, "I couldn't be bothered if I was single" It became known as my 'Table for One, dinner A must have treat for those who flew solo for such a long time. I still like to set the table and we now use the Noritake every day.

Beauty is all around us, if only we could look around & be grateful.

This Victorian-era Queen Anne style home was built in 1882 for John T. Lillard, a prominent attorney in Bloomington. The Lillard House is a contributing property in Bloomington's Franklin Square Historic District, which is located northwest of downtown Bloomington. The Square is named in honor of Franklin Price, who was the mayor of Bloomington Mayor in 1856 when land for the Square was gifted to the city.

Franklin Square was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, and was designated a local historic district in 1979. The houses of Franklin Square were built in a variety of architectural styles from the mid 19th century through the early 20th century, including Georgian Revival, Italianate, Colonial, Queen Anne, and Richardsonian Romanesque.

This picture shows an amazing swimsuit my lovely friend Tabby gave me. It's so pretty and such a good colour, she definitely chose wisely. So, thanks for that, Tabby!

She can't walk anymore without the aid of a walking stick, but this gray-haired 91-year-old lady still has an amazing good memory.

For one thing, she still remembers the first name of my deceased mother whom she last met 60 years ago.

I was then just a little boy, so I can't recall an instant having seen her at our place of abode when she went there to pay to my mother her husband's rent for the use of a piece of farm lot. She started talking to me, however, after a young relative of hers mentioned my family name within her hearing distance, and this was when I paid a first visit to her son at his home today.

I was totally surprised when she asked me, "How's Ate Rosie?" ("Ate," a Pilipino word, is a common title of respect for an older sister, but is also used for other older non-relative woman.) In answer, I said that my mother has passed away already a decade ago at the age of 84 years old.

Superstition to give a knife with a coin to cancel out bad luck.

One of 4 in a bunch which delighted me!

A 'mitbringen' from my love.

In 2020, Santa gifted me a couple of second-hand lenses that were on my wish list. Here's my 'new' Jupiter-9, snapped up close by the other old lens - a FA50mm f2.8 Macro.

It's good to have a faster 50mm macro than my ancient Takumar 50mm f4.

While clouds flare overhead, a large fragment of cap-rock rests alongside the trail and looks conspicuously out of place amongst the deeper red of the mudstones, Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, Colorado.

Visiting this Monument was a prime objective of our recent Thanksgiving road-trip to the Southwestern part of the State. Abandoned cliff-dwellings and watchtowers blend in remarkably well with the landscape, being built from the native materials at hand, and my wife and boys and I were thoroughly engrossed while searching for them and imagining their creators out-loud, along with the way of life that existed here. Say what you will about America these days (and whatever it is, it would probably be accurate), but the fact that public land like this exists and anyone can go explore is largely due to Teddy Roosevelt's leadership. A vision like that, gifted to future generations as it was, still makes me proud to be an American today.

With The Gifted premiering yesterday, I figured I would make two of the main characters from it. Unfortunately I don't have the zombie businessman hairpiece, which would be perfect for Andy. And I had to decide if I wanted the striped shirt on the inside, or his camo coloured jacket, so I opted for the striped shirt. As for Lauren, Maria Hill's torso would be better suited for her, but I also do not have her, so I had to make do. Anyway, I really enjoyed the show, and there were quite a few twists I wasn't expecting. There was a cool nod to the animated series, and a fun cameo as well.

Gifted a drone. Always wanted that extra altitude and perspective, I'm like a flatladder discovering 3-dimensional space for the first time.
