And you find that, instead of missing a picture, you are gifted with a different one, with the only shame of the slightly off focus on the left bird.

She can't walk anymore without the aid of a walking stick, but this gray-haired 91-year-old lady still has an amazing good memory.

For one thing, she still remembers the first name of my deceased mother whom she last met 60 years ago.

I was then just a little boy, so I can't recall an instant having seen her at our place of abode when she went there to pay to my mother her husband's rent for the use of a piece of farm lot. She started talking to me, however, after a young relative of hers mentioned my family name within her hearing distance, and this was when I paid a first visit to her son at his home today.

I was totally surprised when she asked me, "How's Ate Rosie?" ("Ate," a Pilipino word, is a common title of respect for an older sister, but is also used for other older non-relative woman.) In answer, I said that my mother has passed away already a decade ago at the age of 84 years old.

Aldabra tortoises are endemic to the Aldabra Atoll in the Seychelles but the Governor of the Seychelles gifted four to Zanzibar in the 18th century. The tortoises bred until they numbered around 200. But in the 1960s, numbers began to drop. People were beginning to steal the tortoises to sell for food or as exotic pets. In 1980 there were only 100 fully grown tortoises left; by 1996 there were only seven. So, these days there is a permanent government presence on the island and thankfully the numbers are now well and truly on the increase again.

Prison Island the home of the tortoises is located off the west coast of Stone Town in Zanzibar. In this photo another visitor to the islands about to feed some cabbage to one of the residents.

AAW November 18 0 25: What you are Thankful for

WIT: I am very thankful that I have such an artistic sister-in-law who gifted me with this beautiful teacup and saucer. The fingerprints are on there, as a nod to the Chinese tradtion of tapping 3 fingers as a thank-you to the person who is refilling your cup. I made a high key presentation and put it on top of different sized plates, Although these were all white, I still converted to bw to make cleaner tones, and did a colour selection of the gold fingerprints.

Gifted a drone. Always wanted that extra altitude and perspective, I'm like a flatladder discovering 3-dimensional space for the first time.

A 'mitbringen' from my love.

With The Gifted premiering yesterday, I figured I would make two of the main characters from it. Unfortunately I don't have the zombie businessman hairpiece, which would be perfect for Andy. And I had to decide if I wanted the striped shirt on the inside, or his camo coloured jacket, so I opted for the striped shirt. As for Lauren, Maria Hill's torso would be better suited for her, but I also do not have her, so I had to make do. Anyway, I really enjoyed the show, and there were quite a few twists I wasn't expecting. There was a cool nod to the animated series, and a fun cameo as well.

I quit the day job last week!! I am officially a full time professional photographer. :))))

I'm still so gifted at finding titles 😂

This coverlet is foundation-pieced on muslin using leftover pieces from my scrapbag. Originally, I thought I'd make a rug, but changed my mind mid-project and asked friends and family for suggestions about how to proceed. Donalee, a friend and fellow quilter, recommended adding enough to make it into a usable quilt. So, as she suggested, I enlarged it, used no batting since I backed it with flannel, tied it, and gave it to Donalee who gave me such good directions! It measures 62" X 77," and while it does not look squared up in this photo, it's just "blowin' in the wind."
