This is a portion of a toy tree which I love very much. I would like to think it was made for a doll house. It has real lights and I put "tinsel" on it to make it look more luxurious. The tinsel is really a Christmassy ribbon which I kept from a present long ago. The tree measures about 5 inches (I am working on a picture showing the whole tree) and the portion shown here is pretty much exactly 3 inches high. I placed it in front of a metallic green, shiny gift bag and I realized this gave lovely tiny bokeh. I usually re-gift such bags but I am keeping this one!!!

a close look

For anyone who follows my photostream, you might be aware I am very fortunate to be surrounded by some wonderfully artistic and creative friends. This includes my very dear friend Maria who creates some truly beautiful and amazing cards from recycled paper and cardboard.

This colourful heart is amongst a selection of Maria’s cards that I currently have at my disposal for family and friends whom I think would like to receive one. To quote Maria’s inserts that go with these cards:

“Just like our loved ones, no two hearts are the same. Unique and individual, this card can be used for multiple celebrations. The heart card was born from a desire to re-purpose paper destined for the bin.”

The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 28th of July is "made of paper", and Maria’s cards immediately sprung to mind, as I love how she re-purposes papers we would have otherwise thrown away. This card contains pieces made from some of my old Alphonse Mucha calendars, Christmas cards and tea packet sachets that I give her. It also has pieces of magazines, tissue boxes and grocery packaging. Even the sparky butterfly is made from an old gift bag! Who would have thought such beauty could come from what we generally consider to be rubbish. I hope you like my choice for the theme, and that it makes you smile!

Purple and Gold Organza gifts bags, I was in a bit of a rush for this weeks theme as I have been very busy with work, tried a number of different ideas and this shot was actually a mistake lol, I had put these to the side and decide NO not working and as I was rearranging things I hit my shutter release by mistake and this is the result, ended up being the nicest shot after all :-D love the colour contrasts and the bokeh in the shot and well purple and gold just work so nicely together.

For '"Macro Mondays" group theme of "Five"

Note to Moderators :

These are five identical rings placed on a mirror - four rings flat and one 'standing up'.

Went looking in the garage store and found these small 18mm brass plated rings obviously left from a long forgotten project but kept on the basis they might come in useful sometime!

They have!

Placed on a mirror and with some difficulty the front one glued upright. Lit with a desk light that also caught the multi colours of the gift bag in the background - bag balanced upright with a large bull-dog clip!

As for the bokeh - pentagons from the shape that the camera aperture blades make, all a bit unusual. And I've used a lens from a broken camera - lens removed using a certain amount of brute force and then glued to a camera body cap in which I had cut a hole!

Was it worth the effort? I think so!

The result is certainly different!

One of my small bottles now without a cork but filled with water. Placed on the decorative gift bag that I bought many months ago from our local convenience store, and lit with a single lamp.

Took a bit of time to align the lens and was deceived with what the camera was seeing and what I was - all about depth of field. When the lens was stopped down then I got the effect I saw and wanted.

Applied a 'focal black & white' filter to give attention to the colours within the bottle.
