Unfortunately, state finances proved to be in an even worse state than expected by his co-conspirators.

Failed negotiations with the Pretorian Guard about the donative they were promised for support lead to guards murdering him and putting the Purple for auction !

This may or may not be him actually. There’s still a lot of scholarly argument going on over his representation.
