Na de doortocht van deze IC in Rolandseck trok ik verder naar het volgende plekje op de planning. En je raadt het nooit: toen ik nauwelijks vertrokken was, denderde een cargo van Rurtalbahn voorbij met een – eerder – matig beladen containertrein! Dat was dus al de tweede cargo die ik die dag aan mijn neus zag voorbijrijden...
Niets aan te doen, ik was namelijk onderweg voor een kleine ‘Abstecher’ naar Blankenberg (neen, niet aan de Belgische kust maar in het ‘Siegtal’ 😉). Daar wou ik vanop de burchtruïne een foto maken van de 120 die ik eerder al in Stolberg (Rheinl) had gezien… alleen had ik me de kilometers kunnen besparen: de burchtruïne van waaruit ik moest fotograferen, was jammer genoeg op maandag gesloten… Gelukkig kon ik het ondertussen wel al overdoen met dit resultaat!
Terug naar de Rijn dan maar: Bornheim was het volgende doel! Daar zag ik opnieuw leuke personentreinen - het blijft toch een verademing, al die gesleepte IC-treinen in Duitsland!
Vreemde eend in de bijt was hier de IC van Düsseldorf naar Luxembourg die sinds het opdoeken van de IC-treinen tussen Luxembourg en Norddeich Mole (per drgl van 2015 - laatste rijdag was op 13/12/2014) opnieuw rijdt, al is het dan maar tot in Düsseldorf en met slechts één heen-en-terugrit per dag. Ook het materiaal ziet er wat anders uit dan vroeger: geen locomotief serie 181 meer maar een KISS van Stadler! Alle (her)begin is moeilijk, zeker?!

Leider verpasste ich dann in Rolandseck einen Güterzug als ich auf dem Weg war für einen kleinen Abstecher ins Siegtal. Ich wollte nähmlich vom Burg aus ein zweites Bild der 120'er, die ich eher am Tag schon in Stollberg (Rheinl) gesehen hatte.
Die Burgruine war aber am Montag geschlossen... aber zum Glück bekam ich mitten Oktober eine zweite Chance ;-)
Dann mal wieder zurück zum Rheintal wo ich in Bornheim (Rheinl) diesen CFL-KISS als IC von Düsseldorf nach Luxembourg bildlich festhalten konnte.
Nachdem die IC von Luxembourg nach Norddeich Mole Ende 2014 ersatzlos getrichen worden waren, ist dieser IC ein neuer Versuch für direkte Züge zwischen Luxembourg und Düsseldorf, auch wenn es nur eine Hin- und Rückfahrt gibt pro Tag.

I had just left Rolandseck for a little jump aside to the valley of the Sieg as a freight train from Rurtalbahn drove by.
Unfortunately, the castle ruin of Blankenberg (Sieg) was closed on monday... so I made the trip for nothing. But hey, I already could take revenge on October 17 ;-)
So, I drove back to the valley of the Rhine where my next stop was at Bornheim (Rheinl) where I could take a picture of this KISS made by Stadler and in service for CFL.
As IC-services between Luxembourg and Norddeich Mole (North of Germany) were canceled at the end of 2015, this 'new' IC now runs from Düsseldorf to Luxembourg.

This is the line outside the Neue Galerie on a "First Friday". The t shirt of the woman in the center of the picture is somehow appropriate. The Neue Galerie houses Ronald (son of Estee) Lauder's collection of German and Austrian art from the first half of the 20th century. Its relatively steep ($20) admission fee is waived on "First Fridays" thanks to a grant from the Wall Street Journal. Whether she is rich, or only getting rich I don't know. Her admission, however, will be free.
