Had my first shoot as a professional! You may recognize Miep and Nutmeg, the dogs. This is the picture they ended up using on the Christmas card I designed. Nutmeg pointed her nose into the wind and then her ears started flying ... it was so cute!
It was too windy to set up a light stand and softbox so I was holding the Speedlight with my left hand and we only had a few minutes before it started raining again, but this did make for a somewhat more interesting environmental shot!
Thank You all so much for taking the time to leave your wonderful comments, awards & invites XXXXX's

Ken is a German Pointer who lives the life of Riley at Bonsi a lovely estate in Tuscany. His owner is one of the sons of a great friend of my sister-in-law's.
The German Shorthaired Pointer is a breed of medium-sized pointing dog developed in nineteenth century Germany. It is energetic and powerful, with strong legs and great endurance. It is a versatile all-purpose gun dog suitable for hunting and retrieving on both land and water, with a strong drive to find and chase game. It may also be kept as a companion dog, though as a high-energy sporting dog, it requires significant amounts of exercise.
German Shorthaired Pointers have a short coat that comes in various combinations, generally a mix of liver and white. They have moderately long floppy ears set high on the head. Longer, broad, and strong, muzzles allow retrieval of heavier game. The dog's profile should be straight or strongly Roman nosed; any dished appearance to the profile is incorrect according to breed standards. Their eyes are generally brown, with darker ones being desirable; yellow or "bird of prey" eyes are a fault. The tail is commonly docked, although that is now prohibited in some countries. In competition, they are penalized if the tail is curved either up or down while the dog is moving. When the GSP is in classic point stance, the tail should be held straight out from the body, forming a line with the pointing head and body. Like all German pointers, GSPs have webbed feet, and are known for going after waterfowl in the water.
The German Shorthaired Pointer is a member of the Sporting Group] In 2016, CJ, a three-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer, won the Best in Show award at the 140th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

The Tenuta i Bonsi, set in the magical landscape of the Tuscan hills of Reggello a few kilometers from Florence, for more than a century has been devoted to producing high quality olive oil and wine and the reception of guests who want to discover the rustic charm and elegance of this beautiful Tuscan farmhouse cum Castle.
The history of the village is full of interest, and has its roots in the 15th century. The historic home is also of great interest, beginning as a defensive Castle of a leading Florentine family and later became the "600 Balmaceda" a convent of Carmelite friars. Its current appearance is the work of the Florentine painter Raffaello Sorbi.
Today, the estate is owned and managed by the family Budini Gattai, who create products of high quality: ORGANIC extra virgin olive oil and red wine IGT.
Tenuta i Bonsi unites tradition with modernity, with particular attention to respect for the environment and renewable energy: thanks to the skilful use of scraps from the olive pit, heat can be provided by great alternative fuel pellets which can be purchased at the Guest House.

Rudyard Kipling wrote "The price of a good gundog is a broken heart at the end." I came across this old photo the other day…Still missing my Jack after 4 long years without him…
Tidda does have some reservations about sharing her space and her person while I'm pet sitting Nutmeg and Fig (plus Alistair, the cat), but in morning worship they are united!
Earlier this year I was pet-sitting for five weeks. Here Nutmeg brings me her favorite toy, a squeaky ice cream cone!
One time as I was throwing it for her, I accidentally threw it onto the roof of the house ... where it stubbornly decided to remain! Nutmeg was quite upset! Eventually I managed to dislodge it by pointing a garden hose onto the roof.

Sam the Man, my German Shorthaired Pointer, just over two years old now.
It was nice to see Tidda being quite comfortable around Nutmeg and Fig!
She doesn't socialize easily as a consequence of her traumatic past and remains always hypervigilant around others, especially the two-legged kind but also four-legged. Now I know I can let them freely meet and that's a positive step to build on.
I'm dog sitting Nutmeg (and Fig) for a couple of weeks. She's a beautiful German Shorthaired Pointer. I've known her since she was a puppy. But the two of them are quite a handful and keep me busy!
Jake has now been with me for approximately a year but it feels more like a lifetime. Still very naughty but extremely lovable at the same time.

Sammy is a German Shorthaired Pointer and I love him very much. He is as wild as the animals in the Kruger National Park and needs a strong hand, that is why I allow him on my bed - to keep him close to me :-)

Retrieving must be in the blood. This GSP puppy hardly knew me and already tried to please me by retrieving his toy time and again.

This was a few years ago but he still looks the same and is just as energetic as he was then. Unfortunately I can't take him to the veld for his excursions any more since the open spaces adjacent to Phalaborwa are infested with snares and all sorts of animal traps. Sam was caught in one of them some time after this photo was taken but was fortunately not injured. He now has to be satisfied with a walk around the block every evening and in the process has gained some weight :-)) Now I can't even do that anymore!!

Sammy as a young adult at 19 months. A loving companion but oh, so exhausting!
Bess, our GSP sitting in one of her favourite places in the garden. Under a callistemon watching the birds.
10 Weeks after I got Jake as a 2 month old puppy. Of course he had been naughty just before I photographed him, of course he is wild and naughty all the time and of course I love him for it. Jake when I got him www.flickr.com/photos/leendert3/51305039814/in/dateposted/

German Shorthaired Pointer puppy. A real handful and keeping me from visiting the Kruger National Park to take wildlife photographs. Suppose it won't last for ever.
