Shape Grammar lets designers create, assess, and adjust visual layouts using spatial rules instead of text or code. In 1972, George Stiny and James Gips created it to algorithmize visual perception. Shape Grammar promotes Multimodal Thinking—the capacity to analyze and integrate information across visual, spatial, physical, logical, and computational modalities—to boost creativity.
