Retrievers! Programed to bring back whatever you throw for them!
The one thing I distinctly remember when we brought Raven home all those years ago, at just the same age we got Pearl, was the first time I threw a toy across the room, she quickly zoomed over to it, picked it up and happily trotted right back and dropped it at my feet.
Pearl demonstrated the exact same behavior, right from the very first toy toss!
This morning we went for a nice long walk. She is starting to get the hang of walking on a leash, and if you drop the leash and let her go on her own, she'll wander off just a little, but is quick to be right back by my feet if I start to move away.
After our walk we had a fun game of fetch the stick, which lasted for about 10 minutes until she collapsed at my feet and rested her head on my foot.....a sure indication that she had worn herself out and the game, at least for the time being, was over!
We came in and had a nice big breakfast, and then it was time to take a nice long nap.
LOL.....I was glad to get a shot of her NOT on the couch!

Each genetically modified rice plant in the greenhouses at CropDesign has a barcode and transponder, allowing it to be accurately identified at any time. The rice plants ripen in the greenhouse until they are harvested some of them under ideal conditions. Others are subjected to various stress situations, such as a high salt concentration in the soil or severe drought. Researchers monitor the development of all the plants: they are photographed and measured at regular intervals. The resulting data provide information about the characteristics of the plants and thus about the transported genes. Belgian biotechnology company CropDesign develops Œtraits¹ for the global seed market. A trait is a genetic feature that gives a crop an economically useful characteristic, such as higher yield. Traits are determined by a plant¹s genes. Print free of charge. Copyright by BASF.

Reproduction is a highly complex process. It involves the orchestration of hormones and body parts that work to create the egg or sperm cells that package our DNA, the genetic material that makes up our 20,000 genes, to be passed along to our children. The genome is composed of DNA and organized into genes, which are small sections of DNA that are like recipes telling our cells how to grow and function. This intricate process, which involves a particular subset of genes, sometimes fails and leads to infertility. Credit: Ernesto del Aguila III, NHGRI.

This image was constructed from circles, using a process similar to Roger Alsing's genetic Mona Lisa project:
rogeralsing.com/2008/12/07/genetic-programming-evolution-...
Unlike Alsing's project, I'm just using circles, instead of polygons.
I started with 200 random overlapping circles of various tints, and did a million iterations which mutated them in various ways - changing colors, sizes, positions and dropping/adding circles. If a particular set of mutations led to a closer match, this became the new "seed".
This was produced using the Processing language.
In October 1981, flying tiger ancient human remains from Guizhou Provincial Museum trial excavation, the accumulation of complex, broadly divided into early and late phases. Early formation of yellow or grayish yellow, unearthed panda, Stegodon fossils, stone products are made for the late Paleolithic culture era. Advanced formation is black, black, unearthed animal genetic pulp for extant species, and human mandibular and chipped stone, grinding stone, grinding bone, pottery and other large, geological time for the Holocene, culture in the age of the Neolithic age, that about 4000 years ago to 6000 years.
Unearthed stone products made a total of 532 pieces of raw materials, mainly to flint stone, there is, nuclear, stone etc.. The stone to stone, with the forward direction of processing processing, types of hit device, a scraper, tip like device and dolabriform etc.. The scraper accounted for 76%, tip like device is small but fine processing. The axe is a symbol of the transformation of Neolithic culture. 27 pieces of polished stone, delicate process, a stone axe, stone adzes, stone spinning wheels, stone scraper, stone arrow head, small stones (spear) 8. The number of stone adzes, regular shape, with long oblique cutting tool representative. 79 pieces of bone, in addition to the 1 pieces of grinding residual bone scraper, are making bone, bone and bone shovel cone. The three notches in the teeth may be scratching the porcupine symbol. In addition to pottery and ball spinning round round cake 1, the rest are all pieces of artifacts. 1494 tablets. The uneven thickness, thickness of 1.2 cm, thickness of only 0.2 cm, high temperature, hard texture. About 70% of sand pottery, pottery sand shale pottery class accounted for 30%, very little. Sand and sand are mainly sand. Pottery ornamentation is complicated, there are thick rope lines and Fang Gewen cone, tattoo, carved lines and lines and other additional cone. There are 3 pieces of pottery pottery, which has 1 pieces of orange powder is subjected to pottery coating inside and outside the grey clay, on the exterior is painted with two parallel red bands. This is the first time in Guizhou, Guizhou is also the earliest pottery record.
The site has a new and old stone formation, and the cultural connotation is rich. Pottery appear more attractive, but considerable differences in advanced culture. These have great significance to the study of the relationship between the new and the old stone culture in Guizhou and the time continuity of the times.
In February 23, 1982, the Guizhou Provincial People's Government approved the publication of the provincial cultural relics protection units.
The genetically modified potato Amflora produces a special starch with potential applications in the paper, textile and adhesive industries. The starch in conventional potatoes consists of two components – amylopectin and amylose. Whereas amylopectin thickens, amylose gels. Certain industrial applications require only amylopectin.

"Researchers identify seven genetic risk loci involved in atopic march"
From the Monsanto Innovation Forum today:
“To support humanity’s needs, we will have to grow more crops in the next fifty years than in the past 10,000 years combined.”
How?
“In 2030, unattended vehicles will do most of the work, driven by imagery and remote sensing, with new inputs like x-rays of root growth under ground.”
“Corn has doubled its yield twice in history. The first came from the mechanization of farming. Then the move from 75 to 150 bushels/acre came from a new age in the science of seeds and fertility. Both of these advances were on an average basis, with one improved crop for all conditions. The average solution loses a lost of potential value, and the next doubling to 300 bushels/acre will take a systems approach for micro-specialization.”
This all makes sense to me, but I have to take issue with one detail on the 2030 vision — I doubt they will be using a Blackberry phone. =)
Monsanto is the largest seed company and the largest gene sequencer on Earth. They turn over their entire seed product line every three years.
In their molecular breeding program, they sample and sequence each individual corn kernel to detect variation across the cob, with a fleet of ten automated machines, each of which can chip one seed/second to look for 10-100 genetic markers per seed. They test the seeds at 7 million plots at 500 sites in 50 countries. In 2012, they moved from daily data collection to every two hours. It becomes a big data problem. They went from 3 to 8 Petabytes of data in 2012.
This year they will introduce drought-tolerant seeds with a transgene from bacteria. The product has been in development for 12 years with a combination of breeding, biotech and agronomics.
They also have had recent success with spraying naked RNAi (a computer-designed gene silencing technology) on crops to attack beetles and herbicide-resistant weeds. The biologics program is also working on the downstream health of bees.
In March, Monsanto will introduce Field Scripts which takes satellite imagery and soil variation data to drive variable rate planters so planting density and depth will be optimized (e.g., you want plant less densely in poor soil and deeper in times of drought). In their 2012 test, they saw a 5-10 bushel/acre benefit from this optimization algorithm, which would translate to $3-6B of value for the U.S. corn market alone.
They currently use UAVs to count stalks and monitor their health plant-by-plant on their research fields. They are the future of farm equipment as well. “Small autonomous vehicles are a win win. The current oversized combines compacts the soil which reduces yield.”
“Agriculture is set to undergo a series of dramatic changes as IT/Big Data intersects with Robotics, Novel Sensors and Life Science innovations.”

THIS.IS.NOT.ALICE :B
ok XD
Well, I have officially stayed up till midnight doing this. I think it could have been better, but ah, whatevah.
This is actually based on a Wonderland parody story I had thought up of earlier this year before I sided with Lizzie. But if I get enough motivation, maybe I'd make a mini-series once Lizzie moves on a little more.
That is not Alice in the middle. It's her daughter, Janie. How did she have a daughter? Why does she look so modern? Why is this the most cliche idea ever?
Pffft, don't ask me. -3-
The real question: What the hell is under her chair?
IN OTHER NEWS.
Turns out there's been some changes for next year's Anime Boston plan. Instead of a walkaround Dj, turns out me and my group of friends are going to cosplay as the Alice in Wonderland crew, with yours truly as the Cheshire Cat. XD Anime Boston '09 is ganna be an interesting one, hopefully with no 10 hour lines.
And yes, I really was in line for 10 hours. .
I.. don't wanna talk about it... .___.

This image is a transmission electron micrograph (TEM) image of a single commensal bacterium, E. coli Nissle 1917, which has been genetically engineered to express gas-filled protein nanostructures known as gas vesicles. The cell is approximately 2 micrometers in length, and the lighter-colored structures contained inside of it are individual gas vesicles.
Researchers engineered genes that allowed bacteria in the bodies of mice to be detected with ultrasound.
With further development, the technique could allow doctors to track bacteria that are sometimes used in treatments for gut infections and cancer.

Physicist Stephen Hawking - last writings - Artificial Intelligence - Superhumans - Genetic Engineering
The late physicist and author Prof Stephen Hawking has caused controversy by suggesting a new race of superhumans could develop from wealthy people choosing to edit their and their children’s DNA.
“I am sure that during this century, people will discover how to modify both intelligence and instincts such as aggression,” he wrote.
The renowned theoretical physicist, who died in March this year, made the grim prediction in a collection of essays and articles recently published by the UK’s Sunday Times, prior to the release of a book containing a collection of writings by Dr Hawking.
Dr Hawking was known for bringing clarity to some of the most mind-bending ideas in science such as the nature of black holes and the possibility of a multiverse.
In January 2015, Stephen Hawking, Elon Musk, and dozens of artificial intelligence experts signed an open letter on artificial intelligence calling for research on the societal impacts of AI. The letter affirmed that society can reap great potential benefits from artificial intelligence, but called for concrete research on how to prevent certain potential "pitfalls": artificial intelligence has the potential to eradicate disease and poverty, but researchers must not create something which cannot be controlled.
The rare and elusive Florida Panther. Why panther?
We don't have any mountains in Florida so we can't call them mountain lions.
Jokes aside. The Florida panther is a distinct subspecies of the cougar and is endangered with only about 230 remaining in the wild. Habitat loss is one of the primary factors in their decline but the lack of genetic diversity caused by scattered pockets of habitat is of concern for the surviving populations.
The new bronze by Bjoern Noergaard stands some 400 meters from the original Little Mermaid statue and is part of a sculpture group dubbed "The Paradise Genetically Altered."
Like the original, Noergaard's mermaid sits on a rock, but her features are twisted and her limbs exaggeratedly long and skeletal.
First presented at the Expo 2000 exhibition in Hannover, Germany, the Genetically Altered Mermaid is one of six sculptures circling a sandstone arch with a 4.7-meter Madonna statue on top. The other sculptures are The Pregnant Man, Christ and Maria Magdalena and Adam and Eve.
The artwork was described in a news release as "a provocative and humorous look at postmodern society."
The original Little Mermaid was created by Danish sculptor Edvard Eriksen in tribute to Danish storyteller Hans Christian Andersen. It has been sitting on a rock at the entrance of the Copenhagen harbor since 1913 and is drawing an estimated 1 million visitors a year.
Noergaard, a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, is best known for his 1970 exhibition that caused a stir in Denmark. He had a horse slaughtered, pickled parts of it and put them in 112 glass jars before they were exhibited.
