“The person who is waiting for something to turn up might start with their shirt sleeves.” Garth Henrichs

This is three generations of women in my family. My nana, Laura Sailing Sharkey, my mother, Joan Sharkey Jansen and me, Laura Jansen Ellersick. We were all close to the same age (within 3 years or so) in these photos. I like to compare how we look and see where she got her nose from and where I got my cheeks.

Three generations...my sisters baptism. Mom, two grandmas, me and my sister.

The photograph ‘‘Generation‘‘, is a black and white photograph taken in February 2009 in Milan, Italy.

It shows an elder man lifting a young child in the air. The two different generations are surrounded by columns and the dark, walking into the light.

It is a general public picture, since the the man and the child were not aware of my presence and me taking the picture. I was observing the child before this picture was shot, running around the public space in the church, careless of the world around him and unaware of the effect he had on me.

Watching him be free, I reminisced about my past, and how good it felt not to care about what will happen later on, tomorrow and in 10 years.

The little boy looked so passionate, his eyes filled with joy and love as he ran towards the older man, standing in the alley. In this moment, I lifted my camera and started taking photos.

After looking at the taken picture, I could not take my eyes off it again. I was amazed how one can capture a moment like this on a piece of paper and make it to something special.

I was astonished how much love two different generations could feel for each other and how they comunicate with motion and movement.

Every once in a while, we see the latest figures on the state of China’s booming economy. But what many people on the outside may not know – is that the real backbone of industry, is the migrant worker. These are the people who leave their towns, by the millions, to work in the cities. They are builders, electricians, clothing makers – you name it. But some young migrant workers today – see opportunities beyond work life. This story starts in Beijing and then travels to Taiqian in Henan province, where we met two workers – a father and son – who have very different ideas. Beijing, , China, 18/06/2014

Memory that stands out: He made a house call and ended up being the cable guy. “I went in and a couple of older ladies were struggling to put their TV together, hooking it to cable. I hooked up the cable for them. They were sisters. I sold to the sister before so when I went in, she said, ‘Moe, do you know anything about this?’ I could see them struggling and said, ‘sure.’ So I finished putting the TV together for them.”

Chemainus was founded in 1858 as a logging town. When the town's main sawmill closed in the early 1980's, the town turned to tourism. A series of murals were painted on the walls of many of the town's buildings. There are now over 40 murals scattered around town.
