Four GEs of different types lead westbound grain train G017-04 past the venerable block signals at Cooke Road. Gotta love the staggered heads and original GRS relay bases: two more examples of old NYC hardware on the north side of Columbus.

Foxiang Ge (Tower of Buddhist Incense) at Wanshou Shan (Longevity Hill), Beijing, China forms part of the beautiful Summer Palace Gardens. The tower was originally meant to be a nine-story Buddhist pagoda built to resemble the Yellow Crane Tower.

The Qianlong Emperor ordered the construction to be stopped just after the eighth story was built. The tower was built on a 20 m (66 ft) tall stone base, measures three stories and 41 metres (135 ft) in height, and is supported by eight ironwood pillars. Empress Dowager Cixi visited the tower to offer incense and pray. (Source: Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summer_Palace )

Power off an inbound NESE (Portland, ME - Selkirk, NY) runs light to the service tracks adjacent to the Selkirk locomotive shop. It appears that NESE was led by an 8-unit set of C30-7As on this day. The shop tracks are occupied predominately by B23-7s, making for a very typical, very GE late 90s Selkirk scene.

A pile of GEs work the loop track at Shoreham and pull ahead after making their pickup. I was looking to get them going across the Mississippi, however, the pickup move simply took too much time. In any case, I got a fun view I had not tried yet.

Brickwork and window details of the Amsterdam School style building nicknamed "Het Schip" (the Ship), designed in 1919. This part of the building used to be a post office. Notice the very stylish green utility box labeled GE (Gemeentelijk Energiebedrijf).

The westbound Borealis overtakes a loaded BNSF sand train on the joint trackage west of St. Croix. The train was running approximately 20 minutes late due to the 500 having to be replaced with the 518 at Chicago Union Station. They would end up losing another 45 minutes at Hoffman waiting for CPKC 243 to double up and depart.

The highest part of the railway line from Kutaisi to Tkibuli provides beautiful mountain views to the northern Kaukasus ranges. In 2012, the passenger services were still served by boxcab electric class VL22M. Here, VL22M-1483 has left Satsire station on it's way to Kutaisi.

CN 149 is leaving the Port of Montreal with a variety of GE units: C40-8 CN 2039, Dash9-44CWL BCOL 4642 & Dash8-40CM CN 2420. Behind the power is 12,200 feet of platforms.

On Friday, June 12, 2026, the Naugatuck Railroad and River Rail Photo hosted a photo charter with the railroad's America250 equipment. Seen here is GE U23B locomotive 2798 posing on the Thomaston Dam in Thomaston, CT.

FGLK's Sunday Sweep Train returning from Solvay to Geneva was always an easy catch, as it climbed up the hill past the historic Martisco station, and was a frequent and rewarding subject. On this summer 2012 day, B23-7 No. 2309 leads the ascent up the Alps, assisted by a GP-9.

On the left we have the Canon R5 with EF 400mm f2.8 L ii and 1.4 x iii converter, and on the right we have the Canon R7 with EF 100-400 L mark ii. Can you see very much difference in quality?

The annual late fall trip to New Hampshire for Thanksgiving in 2022 came with a rather difficult challenge. A week prior to this shot, a simple tumble turned into no longer having a telephoto lens at my disposal. With only my "pancake" 40, I had to get a wee bit creative with my selection of angles. On November 29th, I met up with my good friend Norm and we chased NECR 611 from Brattleboro to Belchertown. The GE invasion wasn't even a thought, but it was hard to pass up a quartet of matching and relatively clean EMDs. In a genuine fall scene, NECR 3478 leads 611 south across the Millers River and into Millers Falls, MA ultimately heading for Palmer with a good size train.

Looking back on it now, its strange to think I found Huron & Eastern's fleet of former Central Michigan second-hand GEs so boring. They were oddballs on Rail America even back then, and all were finally sold off or scrapped by the end of 2012. In happier times however, we see C30-7 #5175 leading B30-7AB #2002 and B30-7 #5492 into Durand around CN's Port Huron wye. #5175 was one of only a handful of C30-7s to ever receive BNSF's H1 paint scheme.

CP Rail System GE 9527 was heading west on the Elgin Subdivision in Franklin Park back in 1998. At the time, the Dual Flag paint scheme was being phased out.

Classified by CP as a DRF-44, the 9527 was one of the first GE locomotives that killed off the rest of CP's MLW fleet.

It has since been rebuilt as CP AC4400CWM 8054.
