La dent du Géant ou aiguille du Géant est un sommet du massif du Mont-Blanc, culminant à 4 013 m, sur l'arête frontière entre la France et l'Italie, à cheval sur la Haute-Savoie et le Val d'Aoste. Les Grandes Jorasses 4208m se trouvent à droite. Entre les deux, l'arête de Rochefort.

Le coucou geai est un oiseau percheur au bec assez petit et légèrement arqué. Les parties supérieures sont brun foncé tachetées de blanc. Le contraste est frappant avec les parties inférieures jaune roussâtre chez les jeunes, blanc-crème chez les adultes. La calotte, noire chez les jeunes, est grise avec huppe chez les adultes. Les rémiges châtain-roux à pointe blanche chez les jeunes, sont brun-noir à pointe blanche chez les adultes. La queue longue est brun foncé terminée de blanc.
Alors que le Coucou gris choisit les parents adoptifs en priorité chez les passereaux insectivores, le coucou geai préfère les corvidés. Il confie généralement ses œufs à un corbeau, une Pie bavarde, une corneille ou un geai, mais tout corvidé doit s'attendre à trouver dans son nid un ou plusieurs œufs de coucou geai. Comme ils ont la même voix que leurs frères adoptifs, les jeunes du coucou geai vivent en harmonie avec eux. A la différence du Coucou gris, le jeune coucou geai ne jette pas ses frères adoptifs hors du nid, car les parents corvidés ramènent suffisamment de nourriture à l'intrus et à leurs propres petits, alors qu'un petit oiseau chanteur ne pourrait nourrir le Coucou gris en plus de ses oisillons.
Curving westbound through a tunnel in Black Canyon is a Canadian Pacific intermodal powered by two GE AC4400CWs. The train is traversing scenic Black Canyon west of Ashcroft, British Columbia, on the morning of June 25, 2006. Maybe with the reintroduction of CP’s “golden beavers” on groups of older, rebuilt AC4400CWs, we’ll once again get to see some clean(ish) power leading trains through the scenery for a while.
Power off an inbound NESE (Portland, ME - Selkirk, NY) runs light to the service tracks adjacent to the Selkirk locomotive shop. It appears that NESE was led by an 8-unit set of C30-7As on this day. The shop tracks are occupied predominately by B23-7s, making for a very typical, very GE late 90s Selkirk scene.

A pile of GEs work the loop track at Shoreham and pull ahead after making their pickup. I was looking to get them going across the Mississippi, however, the pickup move simply took too much time. In any case, I got a fun view I had not tried yet.
The highest part of the railway line from Kutaisi to Tkibuli provides beautiful mountain views to the northern Kaukasus ranges. In 2012, the passenger services were still served by boxcab electric class VL22M. Here, VL22M-1483 has left Satsire station on it's way to Kutaisi.

Utah did not see much of snow this year. Two days after a limited snow storm, there is at least some powder along UPs Weber and Echo-Canyon route. UP #5781 (AC44CWCTE) along with three other GEs storms uphill at Peterson just mnutes after the sun had touched the ground.
What do you do with old General Electric B-boats at the end of their lives in the US? You sell them to Brazil, extend the platforms to fit narrow-gauge eight-wheel trucks and put them back in service. This old boat is hauling a limestone train as our friend and guide Pedro gets a shot. This unit started life in 1984 as SP B36-7 7763.

After a couple of hours and a broken knuckle.. The loaded coal drag is pulling west on the Saint Louis District.
When this M343 left Chicago it had five new GEs on the point but three were dropped off in Wisconsin for a sand train. This pair still looks great rolling north at Munger on the Missabe Sub.
