The largest genus of flowering plants that are endemic to North America with around 250 species. The Penstemon beardtongues can be a short-lived perennial that can suffer in the cold of winter which is why it is a good idea to take cuttings in the summer to make up for any winter losses. Will flower from May to October and will grow in part shade to full sun. Any varieties that have purple or reddish leaves will have the best looking foliage if grown in the direct sunlight.

One last little trip before school starts. This ghost town is hidden high in the Garnet Mountain Range. It was once a bustling mining town, mining gold, and ruby-colored garnets.
My great grandmother's pendant photographed against my mum's tiny prayer books which are just two inches across.
Tomorrow's going to be a busy one, so I thought I'd post this a little early :)
Explored April 5 - #215.
In all of the thousands of late afternoons I've spent here, this is the only occasion I've seen colours in the sky like this - the most wonderful garnet and cream swirls, more like smoke than clouds.

There was a time, over a hundred years ago, that Garnet was a thriving town, filled with gold miners and their families. Working hard to carve out a community in the heart of the Garnet Mountains. In 1898, somewhere around 1,000 people called Garnet their home.
Another view of the amazing little ghost town of Garnet Montana..
TGIF my friends and enjoy your weekend too.. :-)

Well I posted a picture of this last night while it was up on my computer and I was taking the dust spots off it so why not post the real thing this morning I guess. WC 4010, AC 1752 and WC 6503 lead GBSOA east at Garnet on November 21, 1997. The exhaust from the ex MP GP35m's was something to behold and the 4010 was really pumping out the noise as they climb out of the sag into Garnet.

4403, 711 and 2412 dig out of a sag as they power 910 at Garnet on 10-12-84. The Garnet siding was only about 10 cars long and was seldom used for anything except the occasional bad order or loading the odd couple of box cars with chips the last few years. It was removed not long after this photo .A rescan.

1.700 Ma meta sediment from the Beaver Dam mountains in Utah. This garnet shows the way garnets grow when the host rock is undergoing pressure metamorphosis. As the subduction depth increases, the pressure generated garnet fragments assemble themselves tightly interlocked with the existing garnet crystals (presumably the larger red crystal in the center). This type of garnet is used as abrasive, not suited fro gemstone use. Picture with iPhone 11 and smart phone microscope attachment
