And now for something completely different! My Missus goes to Gujarat in India four times a year for work, and the last time she was there was during Navratri. She was invited to a Garba dance festival and picked up this dress. I can't imagine she'd wear it again over here, so I thought I'd borrow it for myself

women playing 'garba', a popular folk dance of gujarat where they move around in a circle, clapping and with specific rhythm according to beat of the drum.

finishing 'sitra mata pooja' and related religious rituals, people gather around to play this 'garba'. for most of the people (even here in india), 'navratri festival' is nothing else but playing 'garba' (that too after the dark).

Garba (ગરબા in Gujarati) is an Indian form of dance that originated in the Gujarat region. The name garba comes from the Sanskrit term Garbha ("womb") and Deep ("a small earthenware lamp"). Many traditional garbas are performed around a central lit lamp or picture/statues of different avatars of Goddess Shakti. The circular and spiral figures of Garba have similarities to other spiritual dances, such as those of Sufi culture. Traditionally it is performed during the nine-day Hindu festival Navarātrī (Gujarātī નવરાત્રી Nava = 9, rātrī = nights).
