Great photography requires dedication, time and effort.
But above all there are costs involved as well.
Equipment, props and model fees, not to mention time,
are all "out-of-pocket" expenses for the artist.

blood series uses visual language to generate archetypal, primal figures. there is a subconscious decision to call forth these god figures - form representations. they are tied all together in blood -- birth, life, family, violence and death. from "the garden of eden" to "the hand of god" -- witness horror, joy and recovery.
"blood series" was created in a two week painting frenzy following the opening of my art show. there are six paintings in this series. they all were painted in two weeks.

45surf Hero's Odyssey Mythology! Celebrating the pretty goddesses straight out of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey! And the epic landscapes--mother earth--too!
Homer's Odyssey: Sing to me, O muse, of that ingenious hero who travelled far and wide after he had sacked the famous town of Troy. Many cities did he visit, and many were the nations with whose manners and customs he was acquainted; moreover he suffered much by sea while trying to save his own life and bring his men safely home; but do what he might he could not save his men, for they perished through their own sheer folly in eating the cattle of the Sun-god Hyperion; so the god prevented them from ever reaching home. Tell me, too, about all these things, O daughter of Jove, from whatsoever source you may know them.
All the best on your Epic Hero's Odyssey from Johnny Ranger McCoy!

As the Florida heat was warming us both up I could sense that Taylor, my model was stirring with agitation. Not that she was uncomfortable, quite on the contrary, she was so comfortable and mellow that her clothes felt like they needed to come off. It is not that often that a model gets to feel this way. At least not that I am made aware of it. I guess the Florida heat can do that and maybe it's also the smells of the subtropical vegetation. Come to think of it, I too started to feel that agitation. But I would not dare to remove a single vestige. I would totally scare off my model and the rest of the session would be a bust. I would do well to just let Taylor undress. We will all be better off for it.

Last summer I spent four months photographing the big birds at the Menasha Dam, in downtown Menasha, Wisconsin, USA. There were thousands of pelicans, egrets, cormorants, gulls, black-crowned night-herons, ducks, etc., feasting on the fish below the dam. It was a biological phenomenon.
The project led to this gallery show in the Menasha Public Library, a book(seen on the little table), a slide show program, and a reception with music and refreshments. The show runs through April, the reception and slideshow will be on April 25 and start at 6:00 pm.
Friends Karen and Boyd Gibbs gave me the idea of doing a non-traditional gallery display(all the images lined up in a row) and they helped me put this one up. My wife greatly approved(very important) and I really like it. I learned something!
I did my own printing! I paid to have them matted. To keep costs down I did not frame and glass. The book is a coffee table type and the library is printing up copies for sale. Blurb printed the original books.
People helped me make this happen. The staff at the Menasha Public Library helped with promotion and orchestrating the events. Rick Fahrenkrug helped edit the book. John Nebel helped with advice and securing the gallery site, Tom Young turned me on to this location and its possibilities. The big birds were positively photogenic!
This is not a money making venture! I had three books printed by Blurb and sold two at cost to the library. I covered all printing and matting costs. Any of the profits from the books the library prints will go to them.
The project was fun and rewarding! What more can one ask?
Now on to the next thing!
Some models just don’t want to listen. No matter what I say, they want to do their own thing. Just being naughty.
I can’t decide if this is a “behind the scenes” shot, or a planned in-take (as opposed to out-take) shot. Either way, I like it. Christelle can’t take a bad photo. Even when she is just sitting still, paying attention to my instructions, her demeanor is as if she is posing. Femininity at its most photogenic.
With a model like Christelle, I am but a conduit of this aesthetic called “glamor photography”. I am the medium of this mysterious, paranormal art of seduction. The art just flows through me, from the time that I squeeze the shutter, to the final completed work that I send to my printer.
What you see before you is the result of an entity that has possessed my physical and conscious state, as it transformed 1s and 0s into art.
View it large for all the fine details.

Will be busy printing and framing in nice large, matted formats and frames and museum glass! Five of these photos will be printed on 40" x 60" floating wall mounted metal sheets! I think I know which--will share photos of the photos hanging on the walls!
And I am mounting some on plexiglass/acryllic--front mounting them! Some I am printing on lossy fuji-crystal archival paper too, and then front mounting 40"x60" versions to plexiglass--will send photos!
The secret to HDR photography is that you want people to say, "Woe dude--that's unreal!" And not, "Dude--that's not real!" "Unreal" is the word they use when they're trying to figure out the photo--what makes it cool--is it a photo? Is it painted? How'd it come to be--how'd you bend the light that way? "That's not real," is what they say if you have the saturation/HDR/ etc. turned up too high. :)
Some (almost) final edits for my Los Angeles Gallery Show! Printing them on metallic paper at 13" x 19" and mounting and framing them on a 4mm 18x24 white mat and 2" dark wood frame. Also printing some 40" x 70" which is over three feet by five feet! Wish you all could come (and hang out with the goddesses)!
