Come join us at The Lost Unicorn Gallery for our Opening event for artist Igielka! We will be showing a large selection of her beautiful fantasy pieces, several she created just for this show. Igielka loves to explore in SL and showcase those locations with her unique ability to make any scene look absolutely amazing and special...with or without an avie. She accomplishes this by using the perfect pose for a scene and then combines that with a well thought out composition and angle of the overall picture. She uses soft tones and lighting to make each piece enchanting with lots of depth. You can tell she has a special fondness for all kinds of animals as they are also shown in many of her pictures.

We have 4 special guest artists showing their wonderful work:

Oso

John Garrison

Raging Bellls

Samanthe Mirror

We also have all new artwork up throughout the gallery, 1 entire floor is dedicated to landscapes only. Also showing work from the following ongoing in house artists:

Michiel Bechir

Sare

Awesome Fallen

Gossamerstar

Meriluu

Sugah Pancake

Clau Dagger

Rainbow Mubble

Pretty Rexen

Music during the event is provided by vocalist Nina Setner.

Nina's been singing in SL since the dark ages (2007!), but she wouldn't have it any other way! A musical chameleon, she brings you jazz and pop song stylings inspired by greats like Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Cass Elliot, Karen Carpenter and more! More importantly, she ties it all together with her own special flair to bring you a night (or day) of song you won't forget!

Located northeast of Hobart on Tasmania's Freycinet Peninsula, Wineglass Bay is one of the famous beautiful beaches of the world. It is often assumed to be called 'wineglass' due to the circular shape of a glass and the clear water contained within, but it has also been suggested the name came from the colour of blood and guts resulting from previous whaling activities.

For about 20 years in the early 1800’s, the southern corner of Wineglass Bay housed a thriving whaling station. Whalers predominantly hunted the Southern Right, Humpback and Sperm Whales as well as the Australian Fur Seal. When the whaling stations operated here, the water in the bay would turn red with the slaughtered creatures' blood. A gruesome tale, the water in the bay is said to have been crimson with the blood of the slaughtered whales, such that it appeared as a glass of full bodied red wine. While the whaling lasted less than 2 decades, the name has endured.

I got to the Wineglass Bay Viewing Platform at about 6:30 pm on November 5, 2019. The clouds were thick and the sky looked greying and dull. Around 7:40 pm, the clouds started to lift and streaks of light shone through from the west. In a very short time the whole atmosphere appeared to be invigorated. This was taken 1.5 minutes after the earlier posting. Sunset colours were now just past the peak. Hazards Lagoon is to the right of the Wineglass Beach, and further right is a glimpse of Promise Bay. Reflections on the water surface were intoxicatingly beautiful. I was all by myself.

It is about 75 km from Hobart. A 6km Grade 3 Walk from the visitor centre of Mount Field National Park in Tasmania covers the three waterfalls: Russells Falls, Horseshoe Falls and Lady Barron Falls. The loop walk contains information and education boards at various intervals about the flora and fauna of the region. From the information centre to Russell Falls, glow worms can be seen at night.

The Russell Falls, a tiered–cascade waterfall, is downstream from Horseshoe Falls on Russell Falls Creek. Its total height is 34 - 58 metres with 2 drops. It has an excellent flow of water during the winter / spring months. These falls were originally known as Browning Falls after the original discoverer around 1856, but by 1884 it became known as Russell Falls. It is a flat 10 minute walk from the Information Centre and is one of few waterfalls that can be reached with a wheelchair. Other viewing platforms alongside the waterfall and above the waterfall can also be accessed for people who are able to negotiate staircases.

The Buchan Caves are a group of limestone caves that include the Royal Cave and the Fairy Cave, located south-west of Buchan, in the East Gippsland region of the Australian state of Victoria. They have a total length of between 3 and 4 Km, and six entrances.

The limestone rock at Buchan was laid down during the Devonian period about 300 – 400 million years ago. At the time, the sea covered this area of East Gippsland which was alive with shellfish and coral. Their remains were deposited in layers and over the years compacted to form limestone. The caves were formed by solution of the limestone.

The Buchan Caves are located approximately 360 Km from Melbourne, along the Princes Highway, north of Lakes Entrance. (Wikipedia)

Tours were conducted by candlelight and magnesium ribbon from 1907 until in the 1920s. During the 1920s and up until 1970, the caves were lit by power generated at the Buchan Caves Reserve. In 2008 both Royal and Fairy Caves were rewired with low heat and low voltage LEDs.

The magnificent Royal Cave is a through-tour with a separate entrance and exit. Connected by intimate passages, the cave features a number of large, heavily decorated chambers, including the Octopus Chamber, the massive Princess Royal Chamber, and the Skeleton Chamber. Noted decorations include the Crystal Portal, Niobe's Bower, Font of the Gods, Indian Rugs and the Temple of Peace (The Buchan Caves by Kent Henderson).

This is a handheld HDR image taken in the Royal Cave. No tripods or flashlights are allowed in the cave. The Royal Cave is famous for its beautiful calcite-rimmed pools.

A New Zealand icon, the tui is loved for its singing voice and unique plumage. At first glance the bird appears completely black except for a small tuft of white feathers at its neck and a small white wing patch, causing it to resemble a parson in clerical attire. On closer inspection it can be seen that tui have brown feathers on the back and flanks, a multicoloured iridescent sheen that varies with the angle from which the light strikes them, and a dusting of small, white-shafted feathers on the back and sides of the neck that produce a lacy collar. The name tui is from the Māori name tūī and is the species formal common name. It is only found in New Zealand.

This bird came to feed on the nectar of the New Zealand flax outside the Apartment we were staying in Franz Josef, South Island.

The Grand Canyon (Hopi: Ongtupqa; Yavapai: Wi:kaʼi:la, Navajo: Tsékooh Hatsoh, Spanish: Gran Cañón) is a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in Arizona, United States. The Grand Canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long, up to 18 miles (29 km) wide and attains a depth of over a mile (6,093 feet or 1,857 meters). The canyon and adjacent rim are contained within Grand Canyon National Park, the Kaibab National Forest, Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument, the Hualapai Indian Reservation, the Havasupai Indian Reservation and the Navajo Nation. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of preservation of the Grand Canyon area, and visited it on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery.

Nearly two billion years of Earth's geological history have been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut their channels through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted. While some aspects about the history of incision of the canyon are debated by geologists, several recent studies support the hypothesis that the Colorado River established its course through the area about 5 to 6 million years ago. Since that time, the Colorado River has driven the down-cutting of the tributaries and retreat of the cliffs, simultaneously deepening and widening the canyon. (Wikipedia)

This was viewed from Mather Point, which is on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.

This image is included in 2 galleries 1) "Birds" curated by Rolf (rosch1949) and 2) "KINGFISHERS FROM OUR WORLD" by SØS'Nature.

The laughing kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae) is a bird in the kingfisher subfamily Halcyoninae. It is a large robust kingfisher with a whitish head and a dark eye-stripe. The upperparts are mostly dark brown but there is a mottled light-blue patch on the wing coverts. The underparts are white and the tail is barred with rufous and black. The plumage of the male and female birds is similar. The territorial call is a distinctive laugh that is often delivered by several birds at the same time, and is widely used as a stock sound effect in situations that involve a jungle setting.

The laughing kookaburra is native to eastern mainland Australia, but has also been introduced to parts of New Zealand, Tasmania, and Western Australia. It occupies dry eucalypt forest, woodland, city parks and gardens. This species is sedentary and occupies the same territory throughout the year. It is monogamous, retaining the same partner for life. A breeding pair can be accompanied by up to five fully grown non-breeding offspring from previous years that help the parents defend their territory and raise their young. The laughing kookaburra generally breeds in unlined tree holes or in excavated holes in arboreal termite nests. The usual clutch is three white eggs. The parents and the helpers incubate the eggs and feed the chicks. The youngest of the three nestlings or chicks is often killed by the older siblings. When the chicks fledge they continue to be fed by the group for six to ten weeks until they are able to forage independently.

A predator of a wide variety of small animals, the laughing kookaburra typically waits perched on a branch until it sees an animal on the ground and then flies down and pounces on its prey. Its diet includes lizards, insects, worms, snakes and are known to take goldfish out of garden ponds. (Wikipedia)

This bird seems happy to visit my back yard from time to time. This image was taken on an overcast winter afternoon.

I have hopefully disabled comments (except for people who are members of several mural groups) so these shot are easier to ignore if you have no interest in murals or street art.

In behind the shops in the centre of Lismore, New South Wales are a series of laneways or "Back Alleys" that have become a massive gallery of street art. I have included 22 shots here starting with this one which in my view is the best artistically. Sadly hidden partly by the Camry. Many, in fact most do not have attributions to their artists. I wanted to get as many of these into the flickr record, it's the largest collection of street art in one place that I have seen anywhere.

"Come and discover the hidden underground street art culture of The Back Alley Gallery in Lismore. The Back Alley Gallery is transforming the laneways of Lismore. You can't walk down the streets without finding something new on the walls. There are over sixty artworks, including large scale murals, graffiti art, paste-ups, stencils and installations. This outdoor art gallery is here for the community to enjoy and see that street art is alive, thriving, and an important part of the local art scene. Over twenty-five, artists have been featured on the laneway walls and come from Lismore, Nimbin, Byron Bay, Murwillumbah, Coffs Harbour, Brisbane and Germany. Start at The Gateway in Carrington Street at the 'You are Here' heart sculpture by Holly Ahern and Eden Crawford-Harriman, wandering through the colourful streets and laneways."

Two for the price of one, with the little bee hotel in the foreground mimicking the main building.

Created for "Hypothetical Interiors" competition in the Hypothetical Awards group.

The painting is one of Monet's Water-Lilies series painted after 1916. The gallery is Tate Modern in London.
