Nothing more fulfilling, relaxing, rejuvenating and humbling than being in the mountains !

This is at the Himalayan town of Manali.

We friends, went to this valley for some adventure sports, but sadly the rain gods had their own games to play !

But nonetheless, the rains always add to the beauty of any time and place and these were the mountains :)

A dream fulfilled.

One of the shots I always wanted to do - and I tried a couple of times - but never found the right motorway, the right place to put the camera, the right amount of cars driving along, the right amount of light...

Maybe today was the day and this is the one! ;-)

Today people in Germany celebrate „ Sunday in commemoration of the dead“, traditionally the last Sunday before Advent. Our language even deals with an expression for the typical weather for this day. Totensonntagwetter as we say is dull, grey and misty. And as any self fulfilling prophecy we experienced this in the highest degree the worst pessimist could imagine. Nevertheless we were hiking on the new motorway (will be opened in two weeks). Bikers, skaters and hikers had great fun waking on ta track where in a fortnight vehicles will perform with high speed. Unfortunately the mist was too dense to take goo shots. So I place an October shot in b/w. Porta Westfalica, Ostwestfalen, Germany.

Although some radios do not work quite well or not at all, and the cassette tapes I only have a music chain where I can listen to them, I still resist abandoning them or throwing them away, although I suppose and sadly that sometime I will be forced to to get rid of everything that fulfilled its cycle and that now I keep in a more and more full storage room.😄

--------------------------------- o O o ------------------------------------------------

The last picture for 2017. I wish all Flickr friends a good start for 2018. May all stay healthy and fulfill their wishes. Many beautiful motives and fun while photographing.

Der starke Baum

Es wächst ein Baum

Und seine Äste greifen

Kühn in den Raum,

Daß Sterne seinen Wipfel streifen.

Er weiß es, daß

An seinem Wurzelende

Der Neid, der Haß

Sich reichen brüderlich die Hände

Und mit dem Dorn

Der Schelsucht ihn verwunden.

Jedoch kein Zorn

Stiehlt ihm das Glück der frohen Stunden.

Er lächelt bloß

In ruhigem Verstehen:

Dies ist das Los

Von allen, die in Sterne sehen.

The nights we had available to shooting the night sky in Arches had too much cloud cover. So unfortunately we were not able to shoot the Milky Way during our visit to the area earlier this year. However, via the magic of sky replacement I was able to fulfill my dream. Happy Slider Sunday!

As this grand old Live Oak tree reaches for the sky, the eruption of new growth at it’s extremities fulfills the promise of life that comes with each spring.

There are five important things for living a successful and fulfilling life: never stop dreaming, never stop believing, never give up, never stop trying, and never stop learning.

Mercedes Lackey

Never give up.

It's like breathing—once you quit, your flame dies letting total darkness extinguish every last gasp of hope. You can't do that. You must continue taking in even the shallowest of breaths, continue putting forth even the smallest of efforts to sustain your dreams. Don't ever, ever, ever give up.

The summit of pizzoGiezza, 2.658m.

The skyline of the giants of the Pennine Alps range fulfill the view toward NW, from the left, Monte Rosa, Pizzo Andolla (Portjengrat), Weissmies, Lagginhorn and Fletchhorn.

Due to my health condition, I am unable to hold or stabilize a camera for extended periods of time. Additionally, using a tripod has never been enjoyable for me, as it would cause pain when trying to position it correctly and constantly bending over to check the viewfinder. Consequently, I have chosen to explore digital AI artwork as an alternative. I understand that this may not be everyone's cup of tea, as it diverges from traditional photography. However, I have always granted myself the freedom to exercise artistic license and pursue whatever brings me joy. Currently, digital AI artwork fulfills that purpose, at least for the time being.

We have fulfilled a long-cherished wish and made a trip to Namibia. A unforgettable experience on these Africa trips are game drives in the savannah. In the evening it is particularly exciting - you can get a rhino in front of the lens - and the incomparable African sunset with the typical acacia trees.

I have always granted myself the freedom to exercise artistic license and pursue whatever brings me joy. Currently, digital AI artwork fulfills that purpose, at least for the time being.

мy мυѕιc "Touch-A, Touch-A Me"

"I was feeling done in, couldn't win

I'd only ever kissed before (you mean she?)

I thought there's no use getting into heavy petting

It only leads to trouble and seat-wetting

Now all I want to know is how to go

I've tasted blood and I want more (more, more, more)

I'll put up no resistance, I want to stay the distance

I've got an itch to scratch, I need assistance

Touch-a touch-a touch-a touch me, I wanna be dirty

Thrill me, chill me, fulfill me

Creature of the night

Then if anything grows while you pose

I'll oil you up and rub you down (down, down, down)

And that's just one small fraction of the main attraction

You need a friendly hand and I need action

Touch-a touch-a touch-a touch me, I wanna be dirty

Thrill me, chill me, fulfill me

Creature of the night

Oh, touch-a touch-a touch-a touch me, I wanna be dirty

Thrill me, chill me, fulfill me

Creature of the night!"

It's exciting and fulfilling to walk on new lanes and virgin paths. Contemporary it can be very exhausting and even dangerous too. Thats why its not only making sense but sometimes its even necessary following trails others left behind for us. When we do this, we have to be cautious and keep two things in mind (at least two). For one thing, we need to be attentive, where these trails are guiding us too. We need to look up again and again asking ourselves if we wanted to get here and if its good for ourselves to be here. If its not like this, we need to realign, change the direction and leave the trail. For the second thing, we need to make sure that we don't follow our own footprints because in that case, we are going in circles and will never reach somewhere.

About Corfe Castle

Corfe Castle is a stunning 11th century castle in Dorset, that has fulfilled a number of roles throughout its thousand-year history – from royal residence to military stronghold. Today Corfe Castle provides an atmospheric look into Britain’s medieval past, with its picturesque views and imposing structure attracting visitors from far and wide.

Corfe Castle history

The current incarnation of Corfe Castle was built by William the Conqueror in around 1066, although even before this the site was of great historical importance. Legend tells that when a Saxon hall stood on the site, the young Edward the Martyr was murdered there in 978 during a plot to position his half-brother Ethelred ‘the Unready’ as monarch. Edward was later canonised, with his feast day falling on the anniversary of his death – 18 March.

Following its construction as a medieval fortress, Corfe Castle would be expanded and altered over the coming centuries, especially in the 12th century by Edward I who built the imposing keep, and in the 13th century under King John. Not only did John further fortify the castle, he also used it as a prison and royal residence. Sold by Elizabeth I in 1572, Corfe Castle became a grand private home, first to Sir Christopher Hatton and later by Sir John Bankes in 1635.

The demise of Corfe Castle and the cause of its current ruined state came with the English Civil War. Having survived one siege in 1643, it would fall to another only 3 years later, before being slighted – or intentionally damaged – by the Parliamentarians. Its ruins were eventually handed back to the Bankes family, who retained it for 350 years before in 1982 gifting it to the National Trust.

Corfe Castle today

Today, Corfe Castle remains under the remit of the National Trust and is open to the public. Its romantic ruins sit high atop a natural ‘motte’, with many of its original features still well preserved. The castle’s towering 12th century keep may be explored, while a number of its gatehouses remain in good condition and allow visitors to walk through centuries of history.

Corfe Castle’s role as a military stronghold is also echoed in many of its hidden features – murder holes, fallen walls, and arrow loops to name a few. Stunning views of the village below may too be enjoyed from the castle’s elevated position, as well as the picturesque Purbeck Hills that surround it.

Wishing all contacts and lurkers a fulfilling Thanksgiving.

I share the last photo I took in West Virginia last month. 810 has backed down the Cub Creek branch to Cub Creek Jct where they connect up with the old Virginian Guyandotte River Line.

You can see the large bridge just behind 810s motive power which carries this rebuilt stretch of the branch over the old alignment of the Guyandotte River "mainline". The R.D. Bailey Dam construction in the late 1960s necessitated a good chunk of the mainline being altered and pushed to a separate route to the south via Hanover, WV. The original Cub Creek Jct was located 3 miles to the west of the current junction. Referencing aerial photos from decades ago, the original Cub Creek Jct is now completely underwater.

Love - a poem by Khalil Gibran

youtu.be/cGrVOpFTZ94

Then said Almitra, "Speak to us of Love."

And he raised his head and looked upon the people, and there fell a stillness upon them.

And with a great voice he said:

When love beckons to you, follow him,

Though his ways are hard and steep.

And when his wings enfold you yield to him,

Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.

And when he speaks to you believe in him,

Though his voice may shatter your dreams

as the north wind lays waste the garden.

For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.

Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun,

So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.

Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself.

He threshes you to make you naked.

He sifts you to free you from your husks.

He grinds you to whiteness.

He kneads you until you are pliant;

And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become sacred bread for God's sacred feast.

All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life's heart.

But if in your fear you would seek only love's peace and love's pleasure,

Then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love's threshing-floor,

Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.

Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself.

Love possesses not nor would it be possessed;

For love is sufficient unto love.

When you love you should not say, "God is in my heart," but rather, "I am in the heart of God."

And think not you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.

Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself.

But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:

To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.

To know the pain of too much tenderness.

To be wounded by your own understanding of love;

And to bleed willingly and joyfully.

To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;

To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;

To return home at eventide with gratitude;

And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.

"So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet: 'I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world.'" - Matthew 13:35.

How do words, images and even music come together? How do our senses join in creating an inner symphony that has meaning and instills a sense of the mystery of our world?

The words quoted above come from the mouth of Jesus. I'm not sure we can ever fully understand this mysterious person. The one thing I'm convinced of is that Jesus, also known as Christos ("The Christ" or "Anointed One") is a universal and archetypal figure. Contrary to most views he was not particularly concerned with religion, and most certainly never intended to start a new one. So please don't read this as another religious message or an attempt to convert you to my views.

In truth, those things hidden from the foundation of the world are revealed to us as we need them, as we open our hearts to the inner longing that is often best understood non-verbally when we listen to music like that of Ludovico Einaudi. My own view has always been that music is the pure pathway to the soul. The true mystery of life is never understood by the head (reason), but through the heart (love). And I believe that images work on us in the same way as music.

Somehow as I listen to the music of modern minimalistic composers, I can feel this pulse that takes me right back to the foundation of the world - the origin of light and word (logos). You can feel it in the work of composers as varied as John Taverner, Arvo Pärt, John Adams, Max Richter, Ludovico Einaudi. You can hear it in Phillip Glass too, although he is more incessant in expressing that pulse.

But in this case image and music come together in Ludovico Einaudi's "L'Origine Nascosta" ("The Hidden Origin"):

Jesus loved the beach. There's a gorgeous beach scene in what I consider to be the greatest film on the life of Jesus, Pier Paolo Pasolini's "The Gospel According to St Matthew" (1964). www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ewzr-ioQ_9k Pasolini was not religious, but I think he understood Jesus comprehensively for that very reason - he didn't bring any baggage to the making of the film.

Pasolini shows Jesus meeting his first followers on the beach at the Sea of Galilee. And there an inner light shone to such an extent that a group of fishermen left their nets and followed Jesus to the end.

My husband has never owned a cat but when he and Smokey met it was attachment and love at first sight. They play hard and my husband teaches him soccer. They play for hours while I watch with a smile because my two favorite boys are what makes life fulfilled

This very long night exposure shows the ride we all take for granted. Now stuck at home for several weeks, any type of entertainment in the wee hours of the morning, when no one is likely to see someone. Some of us come out with a camera and tripod to fulfill our brain with some kind of joy.

A few helicopters are seen flashing their strobe lights in this composition. It was 34 degrees Fahrenheit when I came out at 3 AM (1.1 Celsius for the rest of the world) for this shot.

Some of the orange glow seen is from a sodium light in the driveway. Which I like the color cast that it gave some of this photo.

Saint Nestor the Chronicler c. 1056 – c. 1114, in Principality of Kyiv, Kyivan Rus') was the reputed author of the Primary Chronicle (the earliest East Slavic letopis) Life of the Venerable Theodosius of the Kyiv Caves, and Account about the Life and Martyrdom of the Blessed Passion Bearers Boris and Gleb.

In 1073 CE, Nestor became a monk of the Monastery of the Caves in Kyiv. The only other detail of his life that is reliably known is that he was commissioned with two other monks to find the relics of St. Theodosius of Kyiv, a mission which he fulfilled successfully. It is also speculated that he supported the reigning prince Svyatopolk II, and his pro-Slavic party disliked Greek influence in Kyiv.

A mule deer buck, who had no regard for fences, cactus, or social etiquette, walked directly through a prickly pear patch as if it were a red carpet, all to reach my bird feeder. He ate with the calm assurance of someone who firmly believed the feeder had been put there for him and that the birds were merely consultants.

When I came out and said, “Scat!” he stopped, lifted his head, and posed. Not startled. Not offended. Just cooperative. He turned slightly to his better side, antlers arranged, expression noble. A photograph was taken.

Then, having fulfilled his obligation to art, he returned to the feeder and continued eating.

Moral: When you are completely certain of your importance, even being scolded is just another form of admiration.

I don't think you will

Ever fully understand

How you've touched my life

And made me who I am.

I don't think you could ever know

Just how truly special you are,

That even on the darkest nights

You are my brightest star.

You've allowed me to experience

Something very hard to find,

Unconditional love that exists

In my body, soul, and mind.

I don't think you could ever feel

All the love I have to give,

And I'm sure you'll never realize

You've been my will to live.

Having you in my life

The Cathedral of Mallorca

Is the main religious building on the island of Mallorca. It overlooks the sea on the Roman and Renaissance walls that protected the city, being the only Gothic cathedral that fulfills this peculiarity ..

In 1931 it was declared Historical-Artistic Monument. In addition, it is the cathedral with the largest rosette of the Gothic world, the largest rosette original of all European gothic cathedrals (13 meters in diameter), 3 since there are cathedrals with rosettes of greater dimensions (15m) but belong to the neogothic, And also one of those that has a ship of greater height between the cathedrals of European Gothic style.

The building is huge, its vault reaches a height of 44 m alone surpassed by the Cathedral of Beauvais 48 m, the highest Gothic cathedral in the world and slightly smaller than the height of the Cathedral of Milan 45 m, instead surpasses the Cathedral From Cologne 43 m.
