An early morning capture of the old Birchfield Garage/filling station in Much Wenlock, Shropshire, taken during a recent visit to the area.
The history of this site appears a bit sketchy; the middle pump has prices in Pence, which dates it post decimalisation of 1971. I’ve not found any reference as to when this forecourt ceased dispensing fuel and was left to the elements, perhaps it may have fallen into disuse once the requirement to dispense fuel in Litres was mandated in 1995; the pumps are all in imperial gallons.
I saw a post recently somewhere from someone purporting to be the owner, who stated that the garage to the side of the pumps is still in use and therefore asks that posts relating to the site not be tagged as abandoned.
A photo of an old Mobile gas station at 831 West Street in Grinnell, Iowa that has now been re-purposed into a Mexican restaurant. You can't fill-up your car here, but you can get a side of beans that will cost you less than a gallon of gas.

As fuel costs have risen dramatically over the last year; I like many others have taken to turning the heating down or off.
Its surprising how many extra layers of clothing you need when sitting in front of the computer and not moving much.
At least here in the UK its just cold as opposed to parts of the USA and Canada that are currently in the "deep freeze".

The sky looked intriguing when returning to the tent after dinner at the campsite restaurant - then as we got closer to the tent, this boat became apparent when looking in between the sand dunes. So I ran off quickly with the tripod, camera and a dodgy head torch, almost falling down a steep dune in the dark - and this was after only one small glass of wine...
The diesel powered Class 60 powers past the coal fired Ratcliffe power station with fuel oil for Kingsbury. God Bless Mother Earth.

One of Idaho's most obscure railroad operations is the Dry Valley Railroad. The short line connected to UP's Dry Valley Branch in Maybe Canyon, running down a 1.5% grade to Mountain Fuels.
Built in 1984 by Conda Partnerships, the route was initially a six-mile extension of UP's Dry Valley Branch from Maybe Canyon to Champ, with a three mile spur to reach Mountain Fuels phosphate loader. Doug is one of few photographers to catch the operation on film with a pair of leased Alaska Railroad FP7A locomotives.
ARR 1506 and 1508 pull a second cut of loads from the conveyor at Mountain Fuels toward Champ, where a 70-car train of phosphate rock will be assembled for the six-mile journey up a 1.5% to Maybe Canyon. From there, Union Pacific's Dry Valley Local will marshal them the final 18 miles to Epco, Idaho for processing.

This is one of my favorite photos. On June 10, 1968, three westbound trains line up at the fuel racks at Clovis, New Mexico. The transcon mainline fueling facilities were later moved west to Belen. This photo was taken from the old Hull Street overpass. Photo by Joe McMillan.

This lantana in my garden started out slowly, but is now flourishing and drawing visitors, like this black swallowtail. These butterflies rarely stop fluttering, which makes photography tricky.

On my way to work I spotted this view. I didn't buy any fuel, but I did get some nuts at the convenience store (not shown) behind me.
A Montana Rail Link employee from the Missoula roundhouse does some routine maintenance on MRL GP35 No. 401 at the fuel tracks in Missoula, Montana on the afternoon of September 3, 2003.
Just as we need our caffeinated beverages, got to fill up the car with fuel before work! As exemplified by the truck behind the left console :)
Took this while stuck in traffic, at the Fenway Citgo station, next to Fenway Park.

Yesterday we arrived at the Ira Spring trailhead at around 8 AM, found the parking lot full and a few dozen cars parked along the road. Not wanting to hike with a horde, we turned around and left. Over 20 cars passed us on the four mile drive back to the freeway. Who knew that 7/4 was such a popular hiking day!
So we fell back on the hike to the fuel truck. Saw no one all day. The fuel truck is getting so rusty even the graffiti is rusting off.
Happy Truck Thursday!
