Fruitvale station is a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station located in the Fruitvale District of Oakland, California, United States. The elevated station has two side platforms.

BART is a high-speed inter-city and metropolitan rail transit system consisting of 44 stations and over 100 miles of trackway in 4 counties. It provides transit service to patrons in the Bay Area region, which includes more than 100 municipalities. BART is the backbone of the regional and local public transportation network. BART was established in the late 1960s under the notion of “if the Bay Area is to be preserved as a fine place to live and work, a regional rapid transit system is essential to prevent total dependence to automobiles and freeways.”

BART is an electrified rail transit system equipped with a state-of-the-art train control system that provides automatic train operations by regulating speeds, station stops, and routing through interlockings. The system also includes a network of communications, computer, and control systems to supervise train operations, control and monitor field equipment, provide patron assistance and information in stations, and other activities related to providing a safe and reliable rail transit system.

An old farmhouse along the Crows Nest highway (aka Hwy.3) runs west to east in the lower interior of British Columbia through to Alberta. My wife and I have driven past that place at least five times on our way to see my daughter in Fruitvale BC. Every time we drove by it I would say "gotta' get a photo of that place" and finally on the fifth trip on the Crows Nest hwy. I parked the car in slight widening 1/4 mile up on the road shoulder and took the shot! Never give up!

IRRS 4519 sits in the spur at Atco Wood Products just east of Fruitvale, BC. The Nelson and Fort Sheppard Railway is a small railroad based in Fruitvale, BC and runs south to Columbia Gardens where it interchanges with the St Paul and Pacific Northwest Railroad. Originally the tracks extended northward to Nelson, BC, those tracks were originally built by the GN. To the northwest, the western terminus of CPs Kootenai Valley Railway is located in Trail, although there is no connecting tracks to the STPP or NFTS. The NFTS hauls lumber up and down their line, with their main industry being the railroads owner, Atco Wood Products. They currently use a chopped nose GP9 for power which was originally built for the GTW.

It was great to see the Fruitvale Bridge Peregrine Falcons are still doing well. We were gone when the last of the four fledged. They were on the far side of the bridge today but it was great to see their interaction.

Dream was a big deal, all over the place. Giant letters everywhere spelling out DREAM like this crazy optimistic command. He and whoever did the OAKLAND IS PROUD have had such a big impact on my psyche. He was killed in a robbery a couple years ago.

Now a neighborhood museum/history center, celebrating the many ethnic communities that live in the vicinity of Fruitvale Avenue in Oakland. The property has a fascinating history as the adobe home of Antonio Peralta, a son of the original Spanish-Mexican land grant holder of the area that has become Oakland. This was his second house. Here are some highlights of the story:

1840--Antonio Peralta builds a large adobe home. He also builds a tall adobe wall enclosing approximately 2½ acres around his garden and a number of one-story lean-to houses along the inside of the wall to accommodate visitors and laborers.

1870--Antonio Peralta builds Italianate Victorian farmhouse, which is the house we see here (much restored).

It was saved from demolition and turned into a history center and interpretive landscape.
