I still go off to Cauchy's favorite places to look for her and softly call her name. One day I felt such a presence that I stopped in my exact spot and didn't move. She was there but it took me several minutes to figure out that it was her soul, her essence, her spirit that was there and not her body. My skin tingled as I thought and felt she was really there....that is how strong it was. I don't follow any religion. I don't know what happens after death. I think there is some kind of energy that moves on but I could be wrong. I still hope that she will just show up in body one day. For whatever reason I felt that she was with me that day. Maybe to tell me to stop looking. Maybe she is here watching over me. Or maybe I'm a complete fruitcake.

Paula makes this every Easter.
Delicious. it is basically a fruitcake with lots of marzipan, there is a layer of marzipan between the two cake layers as well as the marzipan on the top. ...and the 11 balls on the top are also marzipan. Paula's version this year uses an amazing clementine flavoured marzipan and the fruit for the cake is pre-soaked in Amaretto. ....so very, very almondy!

The wildflower has a number of names, including: Woods' Rose, Common Wild Rose, Wild Rose and Mountain Rose.
The fruits of Woods’ roses are a good source of energy and protein and are eaten by many animals, including squirrels, deer, coyotes, and bears. Many birds and mammals are sustained by the persistent dry hips when the ground is covered with snow. The plants are browsed by livestock and big game from spring through fall, but the young spring leaves are especially palatable. Porcupines and beavers also browse the leaves.
Thickets formed by Woods’ rose provide nesting and escape cover for many birds and small mammals.
The rhizome system also makes Woods’
roses effective in erosion control, and the species has
been used to revegetate disturbed sites along road
cuts, streambanks, and seeps. These plants are also commonly used as
ornamentals near homes to attract birds and other
wildlife.
Native Americans used the roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits of Woods’ roses for
foods and therapeutic materials. The hips are a
source of vitamin C and are dried for use in flavoring
teas, jellies, fruitcakes, and puddings. The inner bark and roots were boiled to treat diarrhea and stomach
aliments and a tea was made from the bark to treat aching
muscles.
My favourite pineapple boiled fruit cake.
