View from on of the balcony at my mothers house. Wonderful nature scenery. The little house or "friggebod" in the distance belongs to us by our privat little beach at Gapern.
In Sweden, a "friggebod" is a small house which can be built without any planning permission on a land lot with a single-family or a duplex house. The maximum size was raised to 15 square metres in 2008 and here is a very special solution.

The red building is typical for Sweden. The traditional red paint contains pigment from the copper-mine in Falun, Dalecarlia.
Måste vara 80-talet någon gång. Då hade Ellos en butik i flera plan samt restaurang. Posten höll till i en någon som liknade en friggebod av timmer.

In Sweden, a friggebod is a small house which can be built without any planning permission on a land lot with a single-family or a duplex house (maximum 15 square meters). It is named after Birgit Friggebo, who was the Minister for Housing in 1979 when the new type of building was allowed. The word is a portmanteau of Friggebo and bod, the Swedish word for shed (quoted from Wikipedia). This small guesthouse was designed and built by my brother Bengt (who is a teacher).

In Sweden there is a new building code that allows house owners to build a 25m2 (270 square feet) additional house with a height of maximum 4 meters on their premise without a building permit. These buildings are called Attefallshus, named after the Swedish minister of housing Stefan Attefall.
Attefallshus AB is mainly focused at designing and building compact houses which meet the new requirements. The big and appealing challenge beside designing beautiful houses lies within finding intelligent and space saving interior solutions.
Our contribution to A+ Awards is therefore showing our focus on the new swedish building code. We have designed an interesting and different architectural solution. The project which we have named ”The Epic Wave” describes some of the opportunities which are now possible to execute without a planning permit.
A surrounding frame of the big window sections reinforce the unusual shape of the attefallshus facade. Beside contributing an interesting feature to the architecture it also conceal gutters and downspouts effectively. The frame can also be used as a trellis. Our attefallshus demonstrates an entrence hall with tailored storage solutions in order to maximize usage, a combined livingroom/kitchen, a toalett/shower and a loft. Generous window sections allows a grand view over the sea horizon and invites healthy light into the living space. Three openable window sections erase the border between in- and outdoor.
Indoor, the loft ladder is hung on the wall beside the working desk while not in use. The ladder is used for accessing the smart storage cabinets which are positioned above ground floor and the sleeping loft.
