An evening freight train passes a trackside puddle at Mile Post 26.30 of the Union Pacific Railroad Geneva Subdivision in Wheaton.

Ci sono foto che non saranno bellissime in assoluto , ma che ci stanno particolarmente a cuore.

Questa per me è una di quelle.

La prima volta che vidi questo ponte rimasi folgorato senza nemmeno sapere dove fosse il posto e a che linea appartenesse.

Dopo le dovute ricerche per me questa inquadratura ha rappresentato il posto simbolo della Gesäuse Bahn, ma per realizzarla ho dovuto tentare ben 6 volte....e considerando che la distanza del ponte da casa mia son circa 600 Km ecco perchè mi ci son voluti più di 7000 Km per portare a casa la foto.

La prima volta neanche avevo capito come scendere al fiume, mentre nelle altre avevo sempre trovato il fiume in piena.

Quando quest'estate tutto sembrava andare per il verso giusto, un megacantiere stradale sbarrava la strada di accesso a parecchi Km dal punto, ma grazie al coraggio del mio compagno di avventura ed alla gentilezza degli operai del cantiere siamo riusciti ad arrivare al tanto desiderato scoglio sul quale ci siamo cotti per ben due ore, immobili con la reflex costantemente puntata in quanto il frastuono delle rapide non consentiva di percepire rumori dalla ferrovia, sotto al Sole di mezzogiorno del 23 Giugno.

Ecco perchè nessuna mia foto è mai stata tanto desiderata e tanto "sudata" come questa.

In the aftermath of a late high country snowstorm, Union Pacific MDVRO manifest freight rumbles westward on the main, meeting an eastbound BNSF helper set at Rollinsville, Colorado, on April 22, 2001. The freight is powered by five motors, including Rio Grande Tunnel Motors Nos. 5345 and 5371, while the two SD40-2 helpers are drifting back to Denver after helping a westbound BNSF freight to the Moffat Tunnel. Needless to say—UP doesn’t run Rio Grande SD40T-2s, nor does BNSF operate manned helpers—on the Moffat main line anymore.

A Union Pacific "double stack" train rounds the curve on a wintry morning in Wheaton. The overhead trestle, which once carried electric trains of the Chicago, Aurora and Elgin Railroad, now carries trail users of the Illinois Prairie Path. Thanks for viewing!

Der Klassiker an der Linie Magdeburg - Braunschweig ist natürlich die Kurve bei Ovelgünne. Am 15. Mai 2022 stand ich mit fünf andere Hobbyfotografen in der Kurve und konnte u.A. die HSL 186 383 mit Sonderleistung DGS 95078 aus Pirna nach Eschweiler fotografieren. Die vliegende Kamera bot dabei diesen Blick aus der Luft...

DE klassieker aan de lijn Magdeburg - Braunschweig is natuurlijk de bocht bij Ovelgünne. Op 15 mei 2022 stonden we hier met z'n zessen en konden o.a. de HSL 186 383 met DGS 95078 uit Pirna naar Eschweiler fotografieren. Met de drone kon ik nog een foto van boven maken..

The long bend near Ovelgünne (just west of Magdeburg) is a well-known location for railway enthusiasts and on May 15th 2022 there were six of us here!

Seen in the picture is HSL 186 383 with freight train DGS 95078 from Pirna to Eschweiler passing six train enthousiasts...

Het dorpje Oberaudorf ligt in zuid-Bayern (vlak voor de Oostenrijkse grens) en is bekend voor het bekende klooster (Reisach).

Een aantal jaren geleden was het nog mogelijk om richting het noorden treinen te fotograferen, inmiddels staan hier geluidsschermen en is deze blik niet meer mogelijk.

Op 18 september 2008 ging het gelukkig nog en fotografeerde ik TX Logistics 185 512 die met ÖBB 1144 255 en een goederentrein naar Kufstein reed.

Aus der Zeit wo diese Perspektive noch möglich war und es noch keine Lärmschutzwände gab..

TX Logistics 185 512 war am 18. September 2008 mit ÖBB 1144 225 (kalt) und einem Güterzug unterwegs gen Kufstein und hat bei Oberaudorf das Ziel fast erreicht...

Gone are the days where one could shoot trains - headed for Kufstein - and the convent in Oberaudorf in one frame.

Unfortunately sound proof barriers have been placed here and have completely ruined this shot.

Seen here is TX Logistics 185 512 with ÖBB engine 1144 255 and a freight train on September 18th 2008.

Only a few more minutes till Kufstein...

Dispolok ES 64 F4 - 026 kam am 18. April 2010 mit einem Güterzug durch Satzkorn gen Süden gefahren.

Dispolok ES 64 F4 - 026 kwam op 18 april 2010 met een goederentrein over de Berlijnse Außenring door Satzkorn gereden.

Ein paar Minuten nach halb fünf am frühen Morgen des 15. Juni 2021 überquerte eine HHPI 159 die Templiner Seebrücke in Potdam mit einem langen Güterzug.

's ochtends vroeg op 15 juni 2021.. iets na half vijf..

Het is heerlijk rustig en ik zie reigers, eenden en zelf een otter in het water. Voor ongeveer een halve minuut wordt de rust verstoord omdat een HHPI 159 met een lange zware goederentrein over de brug over de Templiner See in Potsdam dondert. Daarna keert de rust terug... tot de volgende goederentrein komt :-)

June 15th 2021, Lake Templin, a few minutes after 04:30 AM. It is quiet and there is a sense of serenity. That is until an HHPI class 159 engine crosses the railway bridge, creating a lot of noise for about half a minute...

After that.. it was nice and quiet again...

In de zomer van 2022 werd de vakantie samen met de vrouw en dochter doorgebracht in Tsjechië. Uiteraard vond ik het niet heel erg dat de dames wederom voor Tsjechië kozen, want mijn bucketlist qua treinen in dit fraaie land is nog best wel lang ;-). De eerste twee weken zaten we in de buurt van Nymburk en de derde week nabij Uherské Hradiště.

Om zwarte zaterdag grotendeels te omzeilen, werd besloten om vrijdag vlakbij ons vakantiehuisje nog een nachtje in een hotel te overnachten. Heel strategisch werd gekozen voor een hotel bij Ústí nad Labem. Na aankomst vrijdag kon ik aan het eind van de middag nog even kort de stek bij Vanov bezoeken en zaterdagochtend ging ik zo vroeg mogelijk naar de stek bij Církvice om de uurtjes voor het ontbijt door te brengen bij het spoor. De verwachtingen qua cargo waren niet heel hoog gezien de zaterdag.

Ik hoefde echter niet lang te wachten op de eerste goederentrein en dat was direct ook een erg fraaie. Hier zien we de IDS Cargo 193 276 met een graantrein richting Ústí nad Labem bij Církvice op 16 juli 2022. Daarna kwamen in korte tijd nog eens vier goederentreinen en wat losse locomotieven langs. Al met al een fijn begin zo van de vakantie ;-).

Terwijl het dorpje St. Jodok reeds in de schaduw lag, maakte ik op 28 october 2005 van het laatste licht gebruik om loc 182 019 met een lange goederentrein met Eaos wagons richting Innsbruck te fotograferen.

Die Sonne war am 28. Oktober 2005 bereits verschwunden für die Einwohner in St. Jodok als ich das letzte verfügbare Licht benutzte um DB 182 019 zu fotografieren.

Mit einem langen Güterzug mit Eaos Waggons ging es Richtung Innsbruck.

While the residents of the village St Jodok am Brenner had already said goodbye to the sun for the rest of the day on October 28th 2005, I was standing a bit higher to use the very last available light. Luckily DB engine 182 019 arrived just in time while hauling a freight train towards Innsbruck. Five minutes later, the light was gone here as well...

I must be dreaming. Defying all odds, CMQ SD40-2F 9020 curves into Welland, Ont., with a surreal lashup including sister SD40-2F 9022, CP 8013, 7023 and TRE 120. Sometimes seeing really is believing.

Die für LTE fahrende ES 64 F4 - 205 war am 15. Juli 2023 mit LTE 193 740 und einem Güterzug unterwegs gen Polen und konnte früh am Morgen bei Neugarten fotografiert werden.

Dispolok ES 64 F4-205 (rijdend voor de LTE) had op 15 juli 2023 naast de LTE 193 740 ook nog een goederentrein naar Polen aan de haak. Op de "Schnellfahrstrecke" te Neugarten kon ik de trein vanuit de lucht fotografieren.

Dispolok engine ES 64 F4 - 205 was headed for Poland with LTE engine 193 740 and a long freight train and was spotted from high up in the air near Neugarten (just west of Berlin).

CN 327 with CSXT 3194 in the lead (with its white and blue nose) is being passed by a blue and white Nissan as both cross the Beauharnois canal on the Larocque Bridge.

Geluk met de zon had ik op 6 maart 2021 toen ik de LTE 186 941 in Golm fotograferen wilde. Na meer dan een uur wachten, had de stralend blauwe lucht plaats gemaakt voor vele wolken en eigenlijk ging ik er al vanuit, dat het niets meer zou worden. Uiteindelijk lukte het toch en was ik meer dan verheugd met de opname. De trein reed door werkzaamheden dwars door Potsdam en Berlijn...

Ein wenig Glück hatte ich am 6. März als ich die LTE 186 941 - welche aufgrund von Bauarbeiten mit ihrem KLV Zug nach Poznan über Potsdam Hbf und Berlin Westhafen fuhr - bei Golm fotografierte. In der Stunde wo ich warten musste, hatte der strahlend blauer Himmel Platz gemacht für viel Wolken und ich hatte schon damit gerechnet, dass es nicht mehr klappt mit einem Sonnenbild.

Glücklicherweise passte es am Ende doch noch.. wie man sehen kann :-)

After having waited for over an hour (in which the beautiful blue skies had made way for a ton of clouds) I was ready to throw in the towel on March 6th 2021.

I wanted to make a sunny picture of LTE 186 941 which was headed for Poznan in Poland with a freight train and which was rerouted via Potsdam Hbf because of work being done on the Berlin outer ring. Unfortunately, the train was waiting roughly 10 kilometers from where I was standing for over an hour (during which the weather conditions changed).

In the end though, everything worked out and I was able to get the shot I wanted...

F16 makes their way south through South Lagrange behind CP GP38 3100 and 101 cars. Recent rain has raised water levels across the state as they pass a very swollen boggy area.

Eine LDK 155 Lok - fahrend für Bahnlogistik 24 - war am 1. Juni 2022 mit einem Güterzug unterwegs von Rostock Seehafen nach Bad Schandau. Im Bild hat der Zug gerade Golm hinter sich gelassen.

Een LDK loc uit de serie 155 reed op 1 juni 2022 voor de Bahnlogistik 24 een goederentrein van Rostock naar Bad Schandau. Op de foto heeft de trein net Golm achter zich gelaten.

An LDK class 155 engine - running for the company Bahnlogistik24 - was on its way from Rostock Seehafen to Bad Schandau with a freight train and is seen here just south of Golm.

ÖBB 1144 014 + GySEV 470 502 goes with 41173 Sopron Rendező -Trieste containertrain, near Pöckau, at 2020.02.20.

Die 152 126 hatte am 13. März 2022 vor wenige Minuten Großbeeren Umschlagbahnhof verlassen und wird mit DHL Güterzug 50003 nach Frankfurt (Main) Ost fahren. In Genshager Heide musste noch kurz gewartet werden. Nachdem die Railpool 185 696 vorbei gefahren war, dürfte die 152 126 die Reise nach Hessen antreten.

De DB 152 126 bracht op 13 maart 2022 goederentrein 50003 van Großbeeren (bij Berlijn) naar Frankfurt (Main) Ost. Nadat te Genshagener Heide voorrang was gegeven aan Railpool 185 696 (die met een containertrein onderweg was), kon de 152 126 met de reis beginnen.

DB engine 152 126 had just left Großbeeren on March 13th 2022 with freight train 50003 to Frankfurt (Main) Ost. In Genshagener Heide, the train had to wait a few minutes and give way to Railpool 185 696 (which was also headed west with a freight train). After a few minutes, 152 126 was than given the green light and is seen here leaving Genshagener Heide.

Ik had op donderdag 25 februari 2021 wat de pech dat de meest speciale locs (Backbone en deze European) doorkwamen in het minste resterende zonlicht. Maar dat het nog vele keren erger kan, weet ik maar al te best.

Hebben is houden en deze valt eigenlijk - vooral door de witte kleur van de locomotief - nog zeer goed mee, niet?

Trouwens: het is voor mij de tweede keer dat ik deze loc hier aan de Oudenstokstraat tref/ Gelukkig waren ze nu de cargo erachter niet vergeten :-p

A litlle bit of bad luck for me: the most special locos came when the sun was the most covered by clouds.

However, it really can be worse (trust me, I know it can). Moreover due to the white colour sheme of the "I am European" Vectron, I do believe this photo is worth showing you ;-)

By September 1999, the Friendly Southern Pacific had been part of Union Pacific for three years. Demonstrating some of the change that had taken place, a Portland to Los Angeles Z train departs Klamath Falls with a trio of SD40-2s for power.

The relatively pristine ex-CNW unit in the lead was a fairly rare bird on the Shasta Route. However, the unit second out was also notable - it was an ex-DRGW tunnel motor.

GM Wismar Hafen - Brandenburg-Altstadt Stahlwerk Quenz (DB Cargo) (Ladegut Schrott) bei der Ausfahrt aus Brandenburg Hbf. Die Abgaswolke liegt aber nicht an dem ziemlich schweren Zug sondern am zu schnellen Aufschalten der Leistung und unter Umständen Ölrückständen im Turbolader.

GM Wismar Hafen - Brandenburg-Altstadt Stahlwerk Quenz (DB Cargo) (loaded with scrap metal) leaving Brandenburg main station. The cloud of exhaust is not due to the rather heavy train, but to the power being switched on too quickly and possibly oil residues in the turbocharger.

HLCX 6313 passes through a rock cut as it approaches the small town of North Freedom, WI. The train is heading west on the WSOR’s Reedsburg Subdivision during an afternoon thunderstorm.

In former Chicago, Burlington & Quincy territory, a southbound BNSF freight curves along the Bighorn River on June 22, 2017. What looks like coal up front is actually coke loaded in GATX hoppers from Billings, Montana. Sheep Canyon is north of Greybull at milepost 414 on BNSF’s Casper Subdivision.

PKP Cargo 193 502 was op een warme en zonnige 21. februari 2021 onderweg van Frankfurt (Oder) naar Rheinhausen en werd te Waßmannsdorf gefotografeerd...

Mit einem Güterzug von Frankfurt (Oder) nach Rheinhausen am Haken fuhr die PKP Cargo 193 502 am 21. Februar 2021 durch Waßmannsdorf unter einer Signalbrücke durch.

PKP Cargo Vectron 193 502 was on its way from Frankfurt (Oder) to Rheinhausen on February 21st 2021 with a long freight train and was spotted near Waßmannsdorf on the Berlin outer railway ring.

Tijdens onze eerste excursie naar Nederland hadden we 's avonds plaats genomen op de Wieldrechtse Zeedijk.

Eén van de cargo's die toen passeerde, was deze UC met een 6400 in oude kleuren op kop.

Later on the day, whilst standing at the Wieldrechtse Zeedijk, we could spot this mixed freight train with a 6400 in original colour scheme in front of it.

ÖBB 1144 111 + 1144 265 + 1116 115 goes through at the Krausel-Klause Viadukt near Breitenstein, with 45336 (Sopron Rendező - Villach Süd) freighttrain.

SIEAG 193 930 + ÖBB 1116 127 with a mixed freighttrain 54535 from Salzburg to Villach Süd, near Bad Hofgastein.

Ein von den ÖBB-Loks 1020 015 und 008 traktionierter Güterzug nach Westen erreicht in Kürze Fieberbrunn in Tirol. Den Scheitelpunkt der Giselabahn hat die Fuhre am Paß Grießen bereits erklommen.

Machtig waren ze.. de Dm-3 locs die voor de LKAB reden. In Mai 2004 was ik in de Poolcirkel en had de mogelijkheid deze machines aan het werk te zien. Bij Vassijaure kon ik o.a. de Dm-3 1208 met een lege ertstrein naar Kiruna fotograferen.

Ein Genuss war es die Schwedische Loks der Baureihe Dm-3 im Betrieb sehen zu können. So hatte ich in Mai 2004 die Möglichkeit zwei Tage an der Erzbahn zu fotografieren und konnte bei Vassijaure u.a. die 1208 mit einem leeren Erzzug gen Kiruna fotografieren.

An absolute joy was experiencing the majestic Dm-3 engines between Narvik and Kiruna. In May 2004 I visited the region and was able to make a number of pictures of these iconic machines. Seen here is engine 1208 with an empty iron ore train in Vassijaure headed for Kiruna.
