As the sun sets in the West, an eastbound Union Pacific freight train approaches a set of "diamond crossings," seen in the foreground, where the triple track UP line crosses a single track Canadian National line. This busy rail junction in West Chicago is a popular gathering spot for local rail fans and photographers. Led by a trio of clean CSX power and two Pan Am engines, M427 is drifting downgrade at Deering Junction in Portland, Maine, just a few minutes away from Rigby yard. The track in the foreground is what's left of the #2 mainline, and the various spurs for old customers that used to be served, now down to just the NEPW off to the right.

A couple miles west of the previous picture finds RUPO coming up over a little hill as they cross the Bernie Hartford Road in Leeds. BM assigned GP40 326 is leading a pair of MEC siblings, the 345 and 306 with about fifty cars on this gloomy autumn day.

BNSF HGALPAS (Galesburg to Pasco) freight rumbles westbound over a curved fill along the Clark Fork between Noxon and Heron, Montana, on the afternoon of May 20, 2013. Powering the train over Montana Rail Link’s scenic Fourth Subdivision is GE C44-9W No. 5064, with GE AC4400CW No. 5714 and EMD SD70MAC Nos. 9765 and 9475 trailing.
Op maandag 26 juli reed Freightliner weer eens een een graantrein naar Oss. Dit keer was de 513-02 van FL Polska de lok, in de mooie huisstijl van Freightliner.
Het was erg twijfelachtig met de wolken, maar toch werd de gok genomen om de trein op de spoorbrug in Zutphen op te wachten, achteraf gezien is dit naar mijn mening een van mijn meest geslaagde foto's van het jaar 2021.
Het is 20:35 als Freightliner 513-02 met een graantrein door Zutphen rijdt als trein 49786 naar Oss.
Die EGP 140 838 überquerte am 15. Mai 2022 die Ehlebrücke bei Biederitz mit einem Güterzug mit fabrikneue BMW PKW. Links ist noch die alte Brücke zu sehen (welche bis 2012 im Dienst war).
De 140 838 van de EGP reed op 15 mei 2022 met een lange goederentrein met nieuwe BMW auto's over de nieuwe Ehlebrug te Biederitz. Links is nog de oude brug te zien - die tot 2012 gebruikt werd.

Led by a former Conrail SD40-2, M426 rounds the curve by the Readfield bog on their way east to Waterville. While the current schedule is about as good as it can be for an eastbound on District 1, the excessive brush growth in recent years makes it somewhat frustrating to find open spots, with this spot in Readfield being about the best available.
Het dorpje Oberaudorf ligt in zuid-Bayern (vlak voor de Oostenrijkse grens) en is bekend voor het bekende klooster (Reisach).
Een aantal jaren geleden was het nog mogelijk om richting het noorden treinen te fotograferen, inmiddels staan hier geluidsschermen en is deze blik niet meer mogelijk.
Op 18 september 2008 ging het gelukkig nog en fotografeerde ik TX Logistics 185 512 die met ÖBB 1144 255 en een goederentrein naar Kufstein reed.
Aus der Zeit wo diese Perspektive noch möglich war und es noch keine Lärmschutzwände gab..
TX Logistics 185 512 war am 18. September 2008 mit ÖBB 1144 225 (kalt) und einem Güterzug unterwegs gen Kufstein und hat bei Oberaudorf das Ziel fast erreicht...
Gone are the days where one could shoot trains - headed for Kufstein - and the convent in Oberaudorf in one frame.
Unfortunately sound proof barriers have been placed here and have completely ruined this shot.
Seen here is TX Logistics 185 512 with ÖBB engine 1144 255 and a freight train on September 18th 2008.

Ein paar Minuten nach halb fünf am frühen Morgen des 15. Juni 2021 überquerte eine HHPI 159 die Templiner Seebrücke in Potdam mit einem langen Güterzug.
's ochtends vroeg op 15 juni 2021.. iets na half vijf..
Het is heerlijk rustig en ik zie reigers, eenden en zelf een otter in het water. Voor ongeveer een halve minuut wordt de rust verstoord omdat een HHPI 159 met een lange zware goederentrein over de brug over de Templiner See in Potsdam dondert. Daarna keert de rust terug... tot de volgende goederentrein komt :-)
June 15th 2021, Lake Templin, a few minutes after 04:30 AM. It is quiet and there is a sense of serenity. That is until an HHPI class 159 engine crosses the railway bridge, creating a lot of noise for about half a minute...
After that.. it was nice and quiet again...
In de zomer van 2022 werd de vakantie samen met de vrouw en dochter doorgebracht in Tsjechië. Uiteraard vond ik het niet heel erg dat de dames wederom voor Tsjechië kozen, want mijn bucketlist qua treinen in dit fraaie land is nog best wel lang ;-). De eerste twee weken zaten we in de buurt van Nymburk en de derde week nabij Uherské Hradiště.
Om zwarte zaterdag grotendeels te omzeilen, werd besloten om vrijdag vlakbij ons vakantiehuisje nog een nachtje in een hotel te overnachten. Heel strategisch werd gekozen voor een hotel bij Ústà nad Labem. Na aankomst vrijdag kon ik aan het eind van de middag nog even kort de stek bij Vanov bezoeken en zaterdagochtend ging ik zo vroeg mogelijk naar de stek bij CÃrkvice om de uurtjes voor het ontbijt door te brengen bij het spoor. De verwachtingen qua cargo waren niet heel hoog gezien de zaterdag.
Ik hoefde echter niet lang te wachten op de eerste goederentrein en dat was direct ook een erg fraaie. Hier zien we de IDS Cargo 193 276 met een graantrein richting Ústà nad Labem bij CÃrkvice op 16 juli 2022. Daarna kwamen in korte tijd nog eens vier goederentreinen en wat losse locomotieven langs. Al met al een fijn begin zo van de vakantie ;-).
Nur in den Sommermonaten hat man die Möglichkeit früh morgens auf der Nordseite der Templiner Brücke Züge mit Sonnenlicht zu fotografieren. Am 5. Juni 2021 war ich mal wieder früh aufgestanden und konnte dabei u.a. die Captrain 185 541 samt Güterzug gen Süden auf der Brücke fotografieren...

Hauling a long freight train towards Saxony, Captrain 185 541 was spotted on June 5th 2021 while crossing the bridge over lake Templin in Potsdam.
"Man muss auch mal Glück haben" dachte ich mir am 3. April 2023 als es, ausgerechnet als eine Eiffage Rail 248 mit Bahnbau-Zug über die Weserbrücke bei Bad Oeynhausen fuhr, eine Lücke in der fast geschlossene Wolkendecke gab. Deutlich sichtbar ist übrigens, dass die Weser zurzeit sehr viel Wasser führt und - wie auch hier - über den Ufer tritt.
Geluk, dat net op het juiste moment de zon een opening in de wolken had gevonden, had ik op 3 april 2023 te Bad Oeynhausen. Op de foto is een Eiffage Rail 248 met bouwtrein onderweg richting westen en passeert de brug over de Weser. Duidelijk te zien is trouwens dat de Weser momenteel erg veel water heeft (en de oevers gedeeltelijk onder water staan).
Sometimes you need a bit of luck when the weather is overcast and you're hoping for a sunny picture. On April 3rd 2023 I had just that as an Eiffage Rail class 248 engine was crossing the bridge over the river Weser in Bad Oeynhausen with a construction train. The Weser is carrying a lot of water at the moment and - as can be seen in the picture - is overflowing onto the shore...

With plenty of motive power on the point, TR locos 08 + 04 + 02 take their short train of loaded logs for Bell Bay and the empty coal hoppers from Boyer northbound through the wayside location of Nala with train no 34 on Sunday 4-2-2018 at 19.27.

Die für LTE fahrende ES 64 F4 - 205 war am 15. Juli 2023 mit LTE 193 740 und einem Güterzug unterwegs gen Polen und konnte früh am Morgen bei Neugarten fotografiert werden.
Dispolok ES 64 F4-205 (rijdend voor de LTE) had op 15 juli 2023 naast de LTE 193 740 ook nog een goederentrein naar Polen aan de haak. Op de "Schnellfahrstrecke" te Neugarten kon ik de trein vanuit de lucht fotografieren.

An der Drautalbahn herrscht auch im neuen Jahr reger Güterverkehr. Die Güterzüge nach Sillian bzw. Thal verkehren regelmäßig und sind gut ausgelastet. Dabei kommen sämtliche Loks der ÖBB zum Einsatz: Sowohl 1163 und 2070 verkehren dort, als auch 1144, 1293 und sämtliche Loks aus der Taurusfamilie.
1163.016 war an einem herrlichen Wintertag im Januar 2022 mit einer Bedienfahrt nach Sillian unterwegs, als der kurze Güterzug samt Mannschaftswagen im Bahnhof Abfaltersbach abgelichtet werden konnte.

Geluk met de zon had ik op 6 maart 2021 toen ik de LTE 186 941 in Golm fotograferen wilde. Na meer dan een uur wachten, had de stralend blauwe lucht plaats gemaakt voor vele wolken en eigenlijk ging ik er al vanuit, dat het niets meer zou worden. Uiteindelijk lukte het toch en was ik meer dan verheugd met de opname. De trein reed door werkzaamheden dwars door Potsdam en Berlijn...
Ein wenig Glück hatte ich am 6. März als ich die LTE 186 941 - welche aufgrund von Bauarbeiten mit ihrem KLV Zug nach Poznan über Potsdam Hbf und Berlin Westhafen fuhr - bei Golm fotografierte. In der Stunde wo ich warten musste, hatte der strahlend blauer Himmel Platz gemacht für viel Wolken und ich hatte schon damit gerechnet, dass es nicht mehr klappt mit einem Sonnenbild.
Glücklicherweise passte es am Ende doch noch.. wie man sehen kann :-)
After having waited for over an hour (in which the beautiful blue skies had made way for a ton of clouds) I was ready to throw in the towel on March 6th 2021.
I wanted to make a sunny picture of LTE 186 941 which was headed for Poznan in Poland with a freight train and which was rerouted via Potsdam Hbf because of work being done on the Berlin outer ring. Unfortunately, the train was waiting roughly 10 kilometers from where I was standing for over an hour (during which the weather conditions changed).
In the end though, everything worked out and I was able to get the shot I wanted...
