HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Maj. Gen. L. Scott Rice, The Adjutant General, Massachusetts National Guard, addresses senior noncommissioned officers from around the commonwealth for a first sergeants symposium at the Guard’s Joint Force Headquarters, here, Feb. 10, 2014. Rice stressed the importance of the first sergeants role in the Air National Guard and answered questions concerning the future of the force. In the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Air Force Reserve and U.S. Air National Guard, the first sergeant position is not a rank but a "special duty designation" that can be held by a master sergeant, senior master sergeant or chief master sergeant. The mission of the first sergeant is to ensure the that the mission is being met, the Airmen and their needs are met (food, lodging, equipment and morale), Airmen are maintaining proper military discipline, mission essential supplies are on hand and acts as the unit commander’s advisor on enlisted issues or matters. Boeing KC-97L Stratofreighter 53-0240

Eighth Air Force Museum

Built as a KC-97G, this aircraft was modified as an "L-model" in the early 1960s with the addition of two J47 jet engines. The auxiliary jets provided the speed boost necessary to effectively refuel jet bombers and fighters. The aircraft was withdrawn from active duty USAF service in June 1966 and placed in storage at Davis-Monthan AFB. In April 1970, 53-0240 returned to service with the Utah Air National Guard. The last ANG KC-97s were retired in 1978, and in 1981 this aircraft was ferried to Barksdale to join the 8AF Museum.

A U.S. Air Force C-130J Super Hercules assigned to the 36th Airlift Squadron flies after dropping a bundle over the south Pacific Ocean Tahiti, French Polynesia, May 11, 2022. The bilateral airdrop supports Exercise Marara 22 which will enable USINDOPACOM components to address strategic, readiness, and security cooperation measures by improving mil-to-mil relationships, increasing combined interoperability readiness, and identifying information sharing friction points or gaps, and enhancing HADR response capability development. Col. John D. Kuenzli, 401st AFSB Commander visited LTF Salerno recently to meet the Soldiers, civilians and contractors who are LTF Salerno. They're going a great job supporting the troops in their area of responsibility. HOOAH!

About the 401st:

The 401st Army field Support Brigade provides Soldiers, Sailors, Airman, and Marines, the tools and resources necessary to complete the mission. If they shoot, drive it, fly it, wear it, eat it or communicate with it, the 401st helps provide it. The brigade assists coalition partners with many of their logistical and sustainment needs. The brigade also handles the responsible disposition of equipment in Afghanistan to support evolving missions. We are the single link between Warfighters in the field, and working through Army Sustainment Command, we leverage Army Materiel Command’s worldwide Materiel Enterprise to develop, deliver, and sustain materiel to ensure a dominant joint force for the U.S. and our Allies.

Looking out over the ocean from our balcony, the storm was breaking up at this point. This was what was left of the massive front as it began to fall apart over the water. Still an impressive sight!
