What I like about the Olympus 35RC (first released 1970)
- Excellent lens E. Zuiko 42mm f/2.8 - f/22, 5 elements in 4 groups
- Shutter speed priority and manual
- Rather small camera with rangefinder, fits in a coat but not a shirt pocket
- Bright and generous viewfinder (magnification 0.60)
- Viewfinder information: Both shutter speeds and f-stops are visible.
- Exposure lock
- Top-mounted, convenient shutter speed dial. Most compact 35mm cameras have the shutter speed dial around the lens, where it is harder to use.

- Square aperture . It's definitely not the ultimate bokeh monster. No problem for me.

What could be better?
The Olympus 35RC is very complete. It is solid and easy to use. An RF camera in such a small body is an amazing masterpiece. But it has a few shortcomings.
- There is no depth-of-field scale, only distance markers (1.0, 1.2, 1.5, 2.0, 3.0m and infinity).
- Shutter speeds and aperture are difficult to read in bright light.
- The rangefinder has a short base length and in combination with the very short focus throw, focusing can be fast but also a challenge.
- A large open slot houses the film transport lever. It can attract dirt and foreign objects inside your RC.
- The aperture ring sits flush against the camera body. It can be difficult to rotate if you have thick fingers.
- Those with thick fingers may find it difficult to turn the AS ring. You move it by turning the small raised black bezel to the left of the ASA markings.
Despite its shortcomings, the Olympus 35RC is a great camera. It's one of my go-anywhere companions. Its handling and performance are superb.
