Marcel Hanriot was the great winner of the Dijon Aviation Meeting held during 22 - 25 September 1910. He flew his own design, the Hanriot single seat monoplane powered by a Clerget engine rated at 45 hp.

Here it is seen just before takeoff for the 5 kilometer speed contest, which he also won in a time of 4 minutes 13,3 seconds (!). Mark that the time measurements was within a tenth of a second. He was victorious in almost all prizes, like for instance the Prix de Hauteur (Prize for Height) which he won at 670 meter.

Looking at the winners of the prizes it shows that the contestants were differentiated for being monoplane or biplane.

The Hanriot monoplane had a very strong undercarriage with two long skids, making it almost foolproof to land.

The card was postally used.

It's Friday, the sun is shining and the art is free. Come on down! We have prepared a whole load of stuff which is hopefully already in the clutches of our good man My Dog Sighs for his upcoming Free Art Friday event in Southsea this Sunday. As far as i'm aware he has hundreds of pieces from a wide variety of artists and all you have to do to snag one is head to Southsea and grab one for yourself. It's a foolproof plan! We've provided a variety of pieces (mainly on cardboard) and all come complete with the 'id-iom certified' stamp that guarantees authenticity. My main concern is whether i'll be able to get down in order to snag something for myself...

ABOUT THE SHOW

Bernard is planning a romantic weekend with his chic Parisian mistress in his charming converted French farmhouse, whilst his wife, Jacqueline, is away. He has arranged for a cordon bleu cook to prepare gourmet delights, and has invited his best friend, Robert, along, too, to provide the alibi. It's foolproof! What could possibly go wrong? Well…suppose Robert turns up not realizing quite why he has been invited? Suppose Robert and Jacqueline are secret lovers, and consequently determine that Jacqueline will NOT leave for the weekend? Suppose the cook has to pretend to be the mistress and the mistress is unable to cook? Suppose everyone's alibi gets confused with everyone else's? In this hilarious farce, an evening of hilarious confusion ensues as Bernard and Robert find that they must improvise at a break-neck speed!

Fascist Faces

Music & lyrics by Elton John & Bernie Taupin 1981

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I read about how you're slow with the truth

Like any old Aesop's Fable

But when you're turtlesque, I'm a hare's breath

Into payment under the table

But some journalist got his mug shot kit

And his briefcase on his lap

But I'm tired of being linked with the K.G.B.

And all that political crap

'Cause I've seen your fascist faces

On the cover of the national papers

Staring out in black and white

From the tall gray walls on the other side

When I see your fascist faces

Then I know I've had enough

Trying to trace it or erase it

Is it foolproof or a bluff

If the boy had been blessed he'd have been arrested

On a charge of wearing red shoes

But if your pants are blue you got nothing to lose

It'll make you a patriot through and through

I'm gonna be honest, I was very pleasantly surprised with unboxing these.

The boxes are like the boxes from an iPhone where the front slides off, then there's a clear plastic tray in front, then the doll is laid on a white plastic carton of its own. The only connection from the doll to the carton is a neck clip which feels far too permanent for what it is. Otherwise, no twisty ties or things to cut, except for one thing I only experienced with Lola: her hair is sewn onto this plastic piece you just have to kind of rip off. Not my favourite thing to do.

The accessories just pop out easily - each doll, at least the three I got today, came with a purse and a smartphone. The smartphone has a piece on the back to help the dolls hold it properly. It's by no means foolproof and sometimes falls off, but it's more than what most doll-sized phones do.

Take out the white carton and the stand, green screen and instructions are underneath. We'll talk about the stand a little later. But the instructions are the same for all of the dolls.

Devanti Devi, Dilip Shaw and Bisuandayal Manjhi of the Gonpura panchayat in Bihar will soon be sporting smart job cards that also double up as ATM/debit cards. They are workers under the National Rural Employment Guarantee programme (NREG) and are among 170 men and women in two villages who would be the first to be registered as NREG members through a foolproof biometric verification device.

For three days from last Tuesday, after the initial hostility and scepticism, villagers in Kurkuri and Dhuparchak Mushahari in Phulwarisharif block of Patna district, gathered at the Panchayat office to place their fingers (all 10) on a Korean-made biometric device. Each finger was registered twice for getting the best value of minutiae counts (the whorls and ridges on a finger).

Then the villagers were photographed and all their personal data was registered on their NREG Card. With the photograph and details scanned and attached to their names, the state created a permanent database on the workers.

WATCHING THE DETECTORS

You’ve chosen a location to investigate paranormal activity in. What should you bring along to ensure that you won’t miss a thing? A camera would be an obvious choice; a sound recorder could also be essential. But what about the range of esoteric gadgets that have become almost de rigeur for the serious paranormal investigator? The EMF meters, infared motion sensors, gaussmeters, digital thermometers, anenoameters. It all looks very serious, scientific, and foolproof. But is any of it really going to detect anomalous phenomena?

As regular readers of PARANORMAL will know ASSAP is a research organisation promoting a scientific approach to paranormal investigation that adopts a sensibly cautious position towards these instruments, stressing there is no real proof that ghosts or strange ‘manifestations’ have any correlation to what is being detected by them. The chimes with my own belief that the materialistic fascination with this hardware (fed by tv paranormal ‘investigation’ shows) is eclipsing the most reliable and sensitive kind of paranormal detector you can use to empower your investigation.

I am talking about animals.

Let me share the experience that crystalised this for me. At around noon on December 19th 2006 my family and I went for a walk in a field at the edge of our town. The day was beautifully sunny and crisp, and as I turned a corner at the bottom of an upward slope I noticed that Ellie, my dog, was standing motionless, looking straight ahead up the hill. Looking ahead, I noticed something emerging from behind a tree, moving along the line of a path outside the field about a hundred yards ahead. Immediately, what I interpreted as two people wearing old-fashioned brown clothes felt not quite right. These ‘people’ were a constant shade from top to bottom. For ten seconds or so this vaguely human-shaped brown mass moved slowly along a wall and out of sight, possibly around a corner, it was difficult to tell. Ellie, who is as old as time and sees very poorly, continued to act totally out of character for the duration, frozen to the spot. A minute or so later a group of people walked across the same spot, allowing me to observe how they looked perfectly normal and nothing at all like the previous thing. By this time my family was alongside us, seconds too late to share this bizarre sighting with me.

My terrier’s extremely guarded and vigilant posture, alerted by some means that couldn’t have been her terrible eyesight, strikingly demonstrated the old wisdom of how animals have extra-sensory abilities. Many animals are known to have foreknowledge of earthquakes. The work of Dr. Rupert Sheldrake shows how pets can react to events beyond their immediate location, attuned to what he calls ‘morphic resonances.’ Why not paranormal phenomenon as well?

A genuinely serious investigator of the paranormal should acknowledge how the nature of anomalous phenomenon is too subtle, too elusive to be left exclusively to exotic instruments. A good dog could indeed be worth more than any ‘investigation kit.’ Ellie showed no lasting trauma from her experience, and I hope to have her by my side if anything like it ever happens again.

So this evening I planned out my method of attack....I decided the process which would give the most accurate feel would be to cut a second curved lip which was a consistent 14mm width; I cut that from 0.5mm styrene before fixing it in place. This was to form the main lip of the thruster panels, on top of which I fitted thirteen 0.25mm styrene plates...I was admittedly sloppy with the calculations (despite using a 'foolproof' template) and so a few of the plates needed 0.5mm or so trimming, resulting in panels which are of slightly differing ratios. Not that I'm being pedantic or anything

I've also been casting a slowly increasing supply of thruster vanes and actuators, which you may recall I earlier moulded using parts from the Finemolds Falcon and the Bandai Y-Wing

"It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenius."

I bought this book as a souvenir on my first trip to China in 1985. It is the ambitious attempt to create a foolproof tool for finding Chinese characters in dictionaries - a great challenge for native speakers and even more so for the foreign learner. It's a failed attempt - and I have never used it for its intended purpose. But still, it's an admirable document and I'm proud to own it.

Today indentifying Chinese characters is much easier thanks to modern technology. I can even scribble something on the touch screen of my smartphone and some fancy app tells me what it means.

The "Pteranodon" was one out of a series of sesquiplanes with an unorthodox wing and fuselage layout produced by agricultural and military machinery conglomerate Crestland-Mill.

Mk6, affectionately dubbed 'Pete' by it's operators and given a whole variety of derogatory nicknames by everyone else, was the last iteration that incorporated these distinct elements in a design for the small fighter role.

Unlike it's predecessors it saw deployment in considerable numbers during the Cuerno Isle debacle where it's unusual silhoutte made it infamous among the fighting forces on all three sides of the conflict.

Rumor has it that Crestland-Mill, when tasked to further increase the combat capabilites of their Mk5, decided to cut corners by combining equal thirds of a crop duster, interceptor and heavy bomber to model the new fuselage.

If true, oddly enough, each of the elements add up to a surprisingly capable machine, offering foolproof mechanics, decent flight caracteristics and a sturdy fuselage with a pressurized cockpit.

The airfoils also proved to generate more lift than expected, allowing the engineers to shorten the wingspan noticeably.

Nimble and compact, compared to many other available two seater fighters, it was designated to serve speciality roles by some of it's operating forces.

The Royal-Patagoria airforce for example adopted the Pteranodon for their airship carrier program, fitting it with docking clamps on the upper wing surface.

For the Isleño rebel forces, the powerful engine, short wingspan and maintenance-friendly airframe meant that they could be covertly stationed in most rural towns and directly take off from the narrow streets.

Nontheless, it's awkward appearance and stance earned it numerous unofficial titles, including:

- turbocharged, flying wheelbarrow

- the falling tractor

- El P'Terror

Another runnung joke, althoug proved to be dangerous myth, muses that the Pteranodon could just as well be made a pusher plane, simply by mounting the propeller and pilot seat in reverse.

3 bunnies for Easter.

From left to right:

Lapin by Tetsuya Gotani

Alan the Bunny by Sok Song (from Crease + Fold)

Rabbit by Stephen O'Hanlon

My first fold of Lapin and Alan the Bunny, the O'Hanlon rabbit is an old favorite. They're all from the pig base - or at least half a pig base.

I spent a lot of time getting Lapin shaped nicely, it's a great looking model, very 3d, but requires a lot of judement folds and shaping. "Alan" could do with some more shaping, it has a decent 3d body but the head needs some further work. "Rabbit" is very quick and not so 3d (except for the ears) but is foolproof, a great result for very little effort. Here's another "Rabbit".

Stewed Spicy Tofu in Sichuan Style

(although I’m not sure what the exact english title is. Braised? Sauteed?)

This dish is about preparing and having everything ready in little bowls.

500 gram fresh tofu

Cut into cubes. And if you like, blanche for just a minute or so in boiling hot water. But you can skip that if you think it’s too much trouble. Just make sure to drain it as much as possible.

Then, prepare the following fingerbowls

Bowl 1

1 T Yellow Bean Sauce

Bowl 2

1 T dark soy sauce

½ t salt

Bowl 3

1 t cayenne pepper of chillipepper

Bowl 4

2 dl chickenstock

Bowl 5

2 T chopped garlic

2 t cornstarch

2 T cold water

Bowl 6

1 t roasted and crushed sichuanpeppercorns (or more)

Cookingproces

Heat a wok on medium to high heat.

Heat 1 T of peanutoil.

Add bowl 1 (yellow beansauce)

Stirfry for 30 seconds

Add bowl 2 (soy/salt)

Stirfry for 1 minute

Add bowl 3 (cayennepepper)

Stirfry for 30 seconds

Add bowl 4 (chickenstock)

Bring to the boil.

You can take a rest now, or wait for other dishes.

Add the tofu.

Simmer the tofu for 3 minutes.

Add bowl 5 (garlic/cornstarch)

Simmer for 1 minute.

Add bowl 6 (sichuanpepper)

Serve.

I’ve prepared this dish a few times now and we both love it.

The only thing you have to take care of is not to burn the yellowsauce or dark soysauce in the beginning. I did that once. So since then I don’t heat the wok that hot anymore, or just throw in the next bowl earlier.

#Teechallaclothing Fashion LLC Fall is just around the Row The Boat Minnesota Shirt it is in the first place but corner, which means it’s the perfect time to try out a new look for the season. Katie Holmes, a high heel devotee, is certainly taking this to heart. Instead of, say, her favorite Bottega mules, the stylish star was spotted in New York City this weekend wearing a city-ready take on the classic cowboy boot. Her pair is sleek, discreet, and can be worn with just about anything. (Though she did, indeed, style them with denim.) What makes Holmes’s fall shoe switch-up so on point? The pointy toe and chunky block heel give them a cool, western slant, but overall the boots are refined and versatile. It’s just enough visual interest without being a loud, brazen statement. She also styled them with a classic white tee and straight-leg jeans: a foolproof outfit if there ever was one. Sure, statement boots have been trending lately—think: glittery knee-highs and chunky lug soles—but the subdued cowboy boot is more of a classic staple, and can work for virtually any personal style.
