Sailormoon Stars Origami/Folding paper strips!

I knew I had these, had in fact seen them recently but could not remember where they'd been put!

Oh, how I wish I had the time to sit down and just make stars! :)

What's funny, to me, about these is the die-cut heart windows in the boxes (rather than stars). :D

More Origami items are here

More Sailormoon here.

~~

All these (and more) need new homes as I'm going to a different country for an extended stay soon so send me a Flickr Mail message (access through the arrow that appears near my profile photo when mousing over it, or click on the little tan envelope that appears on my profile page) if interested.

Little boar, cinghialetto, designed and folded by me.

I used Thai paper and hair lacquer to make it hard. I modified a bit the cp to make the tongue. To make the pose I got inspired by the Raptors of Jurassic Park.

All righty then -- here we go again with yet another attempt of visualising "Earth, Wind, Fire and Water" for this week's Twitter Photo Challenge.

I think I covered three out of four here too: Water is obvious, wind/air through smoke, fire trough fire (glow), and well -- earth isn't really represented here, unless the burning grass (the cargo of the origamo boat) counts as earth :-)

The great thing about Twitter Photo Challenge is that concentrating on a single subject a week at a time starts creative processes you didn't know you had. In this case, for instance, I had to learn how to fold a sheet of paper into an origami boat. Never done that before, and it sure was a new experience :-)

Technical yadda yadda yadda:

Aperture priority, f/16 (the camera chose 1/125 shutter speed). Underexposed by two stops to enhance colors. A single Speedlite was placed behind what you see here. It was covered with a CTO filter so that it'd create a sunset-y glow from behind. The flash was set to TTL and I had dialed in a slight under exposure.

The paper/origami boat was filled with dry grass. Added some oil and lit the fire. Snapped like a madman to get a decent exposure before everything burnt out.

Update: Slight crop on mortenprom's suggestion.

Abstract is so versatile and and I love most of it. Simplicity works best for me. Here I've used only folding papers. The layers are random and the diagonals finish it off. Enjoy!

My contribution is a bit late as I've problems with uploading the RAW files that are converted to jpeg's. That's why this is a photo in less quality.

When is it the time we start to think pleasures have to come from money or spending big bucks? May be 20's, 30's or 40's?

Did you have that in your recent vacation? You fly on expensive air ticket and go to foreign cities, stay in pricey hotels and eat fine dining. And we believe pleasures come from these big spending. We need to get away from home and spend in order to become happy.

Do we still remember a few pieces of papers and the get together with little friends doing origami? Did you forget those simple joys of colours, shapes and laughters when you were still a child?

Do you still remember these simple joys?

One of the tasks of photography is to discover these simple joys in our life too.

Have a great Monday and week!

This is origami seen at Steveston last weekend.

FOLDED BY ME

Folded by me from 42x42 cm 5-layer tissue paper

A very complex crease pattern based on tilted grid boxpleating.

From one square of japan paper, 63x63 cm.

This is not the same paper that I used on my dwarfs. I saw this paper at a hardware store, it is like a kraft paper, it´s a bit strange and I decided to buy it to try it, it is called 'Bobina waterproof paperkraft'. It´s thin and you can use it for wet folding, in this case is not a wet folding. I don´t recommend using varnish or glues because it doesn´t soak up and stays very, very shiny. The good thing about this paper respecting the other paper that I used on my dwarfs is that it´s much more malleable and gives you more freedom of movement in the arms and legs.

Folded from 30x30cm and the violin is de Joisel´s model and I used a kraft.

(If you don´t understand any word, please, tell my and I will try to explain it. If I had any mistake on my english, please, correct me too)

This is the third attemp. The first time I used 1m of kraft paper and the second time with a foil of the same size, which there is no picture because I failed it. This time I used a 50 cm of 'shadow paper', which is very thin: the perfect paper for insects and great figures that has a lot of steps, like this.

As a handicap, it does not absorb the glue. It was very difficult to shape the legs by applying glue. On the other hand It was a bit difficult to make the details of the head, jaw and the eyes. I failed an eye (the same eye that can see in the picture). If I find a little bigger role, I will fold it again, I really love this model because it was the first complex model that I folded :)

Later I'll upload another photo with his good side (with de good eye, lol) but better not advance anything;)

Here you have some links for you to see the first attempt I made (around August, 2010) and you can see the change :P

As you have seen, the result was a fat dragon but I could get some good details on the head. Now the body is more dynamic and thin, but I could not optimize the head as I would have liked.

I learned and folded in the in the XVII international convention of origami, Sevilla.

I followed a great tutorial by Folding Trees Blog to make some of these- it takes 6 petals to make one flower and 12 flowers to make the ball. I am making it for a friend of mine who loves paper- origami mostly, but all kinds of paper!
